A Powerful Love Story: Mike and Tanya

❤️ This video remembers and commemorates the life of Tanya, who passed away in 2018. ❤️
Tanya was unexpectedly diagnosed with locked-in syndrome. She can feel her body, and she can hear and see, but she can’t move anything at all except for her eyes, and she can only move them up and down. She looks up for yes and down for no, so she can communicate with not only her support workers but most importantly, her loving and dedicated husband, Mike. However, after Tanya’s diagnosis, the worst thing about their journey was that they were not able to be together, until they found SACARE...

We try our best not to say "no"... our team will go above and beyond to find the best support solution for you and your family. If you would like to know more visit: www.sacare.com.au/

Hi everyone, Thank you so much for your support of Mike and Tanya’s story. We have been overwhelmed by your touching messages and understanding comments for their unique situation. Just a little update for those who are interested: Sadly in 2018 Tanya passed away, with Mike by her side. Mike is now about to leave for a big road trip around Australia, with their gorgeous dog Ella. Although Mike and Tanya had been planning to do the trip together before she got sick; we’re so happy that he is doing it in her loving memory. It is so important to share courageous stories about love, kindness and passionate people. We appreciate all of the love you guys have been giving this video, so thanks again! 💕 We have more amazing stories from clients, staff and friends of SACARE so please have a look at our other videos, and please subscribe if you would like to!

Thank you for doing the work that you do, healthcare needs are far too often taken care of at a cost to every other area of the patient's life. It's beautiful and very reassuring to know that there is such a great effort being made to accommodate the real lives of people who happen to have medical needs for various reasons. People are more than one thing, always, and helping create an environment where that is enabled and encouraged is quite a humbling achievement. Sincerely, thank you all, for what you have given-and for what you will go on to give- to people who really need it.

This angers me so much!!!! This was a disaster to two wonderful people!!! YOUR idiot god (not worth capital letter!) - is all knowing, omnipresent, omnipotent????????????? SO................. HOW - HOW did this fantasy god allow this poor woman to be stricken like this???? This is a massive tragedy and "blessings" and prayers are feeble consolation for what this lovely, life-loving couple have had to endure. This isn't a time for useless proselytizing - this is a time to feel deep sympathy and to "push" your congressmen and local governors for money to fund research into this dreadful condition.

darkscar drakon, I don't know where you are from, where you think saying that sort of thing is acceptable, but in Australia, where Tania and Mike live it;s seriously not OK to devalue a human being's life like that, just because they are not like they used to be, doesn't mean they have no value in the word any more. How about this, have some respect for other people's feelings and think before you open your mouth.. Any one can give their uninformed opinion but it really means nothing unless you have been through it yourself or are very close to some one it has happened to. It's pretty obvious you have no empathy for other people so maybe it would need for it to happen directly to you for you to get any understanding of the situation. If I was you I'd be mighty careful saying things like that, because let me tell you, you are tempting fate.

Dd Dedrick I agree with you both. The fact that people cannot legally have the right to die in most parts of the world disgusts me. If you have been rendered in a PVS, and your wishes before the event were known, the feeding tube can be removed, and you can go peacefully. In some parts of the world, including some states, if one has a prognosis of under six months because of a terminal illness, one can have euthanasia. (But generally, one had to be mobile enough to bring the medicine to their mouth, so it’s basically just a cancer law. Few diseases leave a person mobile and with a known prognosis of less than six months.) The husband is remarkable, and if she wants to remain living, I fully respect that. I’d be blinking out “give me a lethal dose of morphine,” and have a doctor who looks the other way. Officials won’t do an autopsy in a case like this… at least not where I’m from. A doctor can sign the death certificate, and that’s that. The laws need to catch up with the technology that saves these people and leaves them like this.

My wife has Locked in syndrome since 1995 and she lives a happy and meaningful life. We communicate with a system called "air alphabet" which is a see-through board with letters on it. It works like this; she looks at a letter I say it out loud and continuing like this we form the words and so on. It is easier than what how it sounds. You can find out more about her and the speaking system from our TED Talk: "Imagine if you would get a stroke and get completely paralyzed | Kati Lepistö" and "Locked-in syndrome, not the end of the runway - Kati’s story" and "Who is Kati: What is Locked-In Syndrome (Kati’s condition)" all on KZread. BTW, there are people that came out of LIS such as Kate Allatt.

Could Mike and Tanya use such a system? I'm thinking if they had an alphabet arranged vertically it could help. And don't they have eye-tracking systems? When Tanya faces the vertical alphabet, a computer could monitor her focus and interpret what she's saying. I'm thinking 0-9 and "?" could also be incorporated into the alphabet by simply adding a "shift" as a 27th letter.

@@Trevorjennings679 Hello trevorjennings, doing well and fine and I don't believe in COVID 19. Never masked, not once and haven't been sick since 2019, when everyone in my area got the flu. Ever wondered why the "19" in this flu? Anyway, in the last three years, most just went about their lives here, but definitely not piling up in the morgue. Funny how those COVID nurses had the time to do those tik tok dances at such a busy time during the plandemic. You have a nice day trevorjennings, you sound like a polite and intelligent person, but please, research on a platform that doesn't censor information. Googling now days will only get you the narrative they want you to swallow. I apologize, but the first time I ever saw my father cry was when JFK was murdered, so a life history of smelling b.s. when it's put under my nose, something being a non-conformist will empower you with, has been life saving for me. From a public assassination of a president, to censoring words like, "rape", "child", "sexual assault", to the complete confusion on what defines a woman and all the collective insanity in between, the world has finally gone sideways! And I'm tired of watching people jumping off the bridge because everyone else is doing it. Can no one think for themselves without the app? Sorry, but I'm more concerned with why people are so clueless, than this insipid need for fear mongering over a lab created and patented virus! Put some time into this! plandemicseries.com/
