    I think I may have a new favourite boat on my wish list. As Toby (might) say, "ticks a lot of boxes". The hull & sheer are stunning, interior looks really well set up. Can't wait for a performance update.

    my opinion only is that long term going to be a lot of repair of wheels and rudders, and 2 more hole's through the hull, a Orca will love those.. I prefer 2 rudders on the stern with tillers and simple autopilot and connection between 2 tillers

    Many good features, but can't understand these semi-raised saloon boats without raised seating where you still can't see out. I'd rather have one or the other, low and sleek or a real pilot house / raised saloon.

    Beautiful design, gorgeous interior. I guess she needs to be sailed with speed to make her movements comfortable. Is she set up to be sailed with speed by a cruising couple, would cruisers not prefer some shelter from wind and waves from behind when not on full speed ? Are the winches to be made electric? How about the anchoring and storage of a dinghy ? Or she not intended for cruising but for racing ?

    A modern performance monohul build in plywood? I know, that some gulets (Turkish motor sailors) are build in plywood epoxy or wood and epoxy, so it is solid. Does it not make a rather heavy hull? I love the interior of this boat. My only complaint is the lack of a deck space, where you can be protected from the weather and sun really.

    Didn't RM yachts go bankrupt leaving a bunch of customers with several 100's of thousands of dollars in down payments with nothing? Then when Grand Large bought RM they didn't honor those previous down payments and contracts. Instead they jacked up the prices... It is a nice boat though.

    She's pretty - how does having equal square footage (main v jib) affect performance? And a plywood hull? Seems to be an outlier for modern boats.

    For a given weight, plywood is stronger than steel. Split sail area can be better for balance than having 130% of the mainsail area on a rolled genoa.

    It’s no different to a balsa core. Ply epoxy boats have multiple coats of glass internally and externally, so are very watertight.

  • @skaraborgcraft

    @skaraborgcraft

    Жыл бұрын

    @@PN_48 Far, far superior to a balsa core, needs no reinforcement put in for deck hardware, even though this boat has a glass deck. Sheathing is only needed for surface protection, the glass up schedule is not "strucural" like a typical "core" boat, or the boat will lose the benefit of the plywood construction and actually be heavier.

    @@skaraborgcraft Oh absolutely! My point was that ply/epoxy boats get a bad rap when actually they’re no different (from a water ingress perspective) than a standard GRP boat. For my sins, I’m on my second ply/epoxy boat and far prefer them to GRP. Lightweight, strong and the ply provides an element of sound deadening.

    @TheFosterJourney

    @@Panoramix0874 That's a step better. The video said cast iron. But still, galvanized steel rusts just as much. Is it really the material to use for 10, 20, or 30 years down the road? Or do they expect the boats to be thrown away in a decade? If so, they should definitely market them as disposable to help buyers have apples to apples comparisons with boats built to last.

  • @Panoramix0874

    @@TheFosterJourney Not convinced that aluminium is such a great choice for a piece that is going to be in contact with steel keel bolts (galvanic corrosion) and will be subject to cycle loading! Steel is ductile and galvanisation will protect it. These boats are definitely not disposable, plywood boats built in the 60s with lesser resins are outlasting GRP boats which tend to eventually delaminate! Here in France 30 years old RM are still selling at a premium... if all grids were rusted, they would be going for peanuts!
