A Plea to Christians to Stop Calling Themselves "Sinners"

Instead of calling yourself a sinner (if you are a Christian), consider how Jesus and Paul refer to you. They never call converted Christians "sinners."

Wow, I woke up this morning thinking about this very topic. So I asked ChatGPT what adjectives for believers are in the NT. 1. Faithful 2. Beloved 3. Chosen 4. Holy 5. Blameless 6. Redeemed 7. Sanctified 8. Righteous 9. Disciples 10. Saints 11. Children of God 12. Born-again 13. Saved 14. Called 15. Elect. NOT sinners. I am so blessed about Dr. Smith sharing this.

Yes, but also the Apostle Paul called himself a sinner and St. John the beloved Disciple said if you say you have no sin, you're a liar. But hey, what did they know? I'm sure the KZread "Dr." knows better and should totally be your source for Christian teaching and authority.

" The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost."-1st Tim. 1:15. Paul said that he is the foremost of sinners, not that he was, but is. " If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."-1st Jn. 1:8.

This is how denial begins. I am not a sinner, but if I want to avoid cognitive dissonance when I do sin, I dare not recognize my sin as sin, which means that I continue to do it. This was one of the biggest obstacles to becoming a Christian that I faced. I had relatives, people who I knew very well, and I watched them blissfully unaware of their sinning. You can't correct what you can't recognize. I'm not talking about sex. In fact it was their focus on illicit sex as sin that seemed to blind them to the other things. Mostly it had to do with pain they caused by the misapplication of love. Within their families you could cut the pain with a knife, but they didn't see anything wrong at all. They were sinning and in denial of sinning.

Martin Luther said that a Christian is simultaneously righteous and a sinner. Because we still sin, we are, by definition, a sinner. Because Christ's perfect righteousness is imputed to us through faith, we are righteous.

“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief” - The Apostle Paul St. Paul the Apostle was a man who wrote a huge part of the New Testament, a man who God took the third Heaven while he was still alive in order to show him mysteries. But hey, what did he know? I'm sure this random KZread creator knows better and totally has the authority to tell all of the Christians in the world what we should be doing.

What do you call someone who can't stop sinning? That's right - A SINNER!!! I speak from an abundance of lifelong personal experience! "If we say that we do not have sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:8-9 Only a sinner can confess their sin!

You have to separate body and spirit in your thinking. Our spirit is made new but our body is still wicked and evil. I would never say I'm not a sinner because that is a self righteous statement.

Totally wrong. The scripture says a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again. We should humble ourselves by calling ourselves sinners like the publican who beat his breast and called himself a sinner, whereas the Pharisee did not see his own sin of pride and looked down upon the publican calling him a sinner. God gives grace to the humble and resists the proud. I want to receive Grace and so I humble myself by examining my life and in finding sin there lurking I rightly say that I am a sinner. James 4 which is written to Christians mind you states "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, YE SINNERS and purify your hearts, ye double minded. ". So there you have it. Scriptural proof that we are sinners. Paul explained that he was the worst of sinners and in Romans 7 he says this "For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body [4] of this death? " So if the holy apostle called himself wretched because of sin then who are we to claim that we are better than Paul by not admitting that we are sinners. Obviously there is a false humility that many practice when they almost boast that they are sinners and hypocritically use it as an excuse for ongoing sin, but this is actually extremely wicked and prideful and we will fall from Grace if we do this so obviously that needs to be avoided. I wouldn't go around in public saying I am a sinner but in my private prayer I do concede that I am a sinner.

Good one, calling yourself a sinner is actually rejecting what Jesus has done to save the true born again believers from satan's bondage, dangerous words which can put you back in bondage... The definition of sin is living in satan's nature, Jesus came to deliver us from satan's bondage, resurrect our spirit allowing His Spirit to live in and through us, *now able to live in God's nature,* sons of God, not slaves of satan anymore.

Sin is something that separates us from God harms our relationship with God or in the case of mortal sin can completely sever our relationship with God
