A Pipe Dream Come True - First Mudlark after Lockdown

This was the first trip back to our favorite beach after 2 months. We were worried we may have lost our touch mudlarking wise but we found so many amazing things! There were so many finds we have split the film into two. This first half concentrates mainly on all the pipes and pipestems we find (we some other lovely finds) Come with us and see what we find!
We have opened a Ko-fi account, so if you wanted to support us by buying us a metaphorical cup of coffee it would be greatly appreciated xx

My name is Sherry. When I was small my grandfather bought me a babydoll with a China face she had blond ringlets. Very pretty. But she scared me to death because she had teeth like the one you found. One day when my mom wasn’t watching me I took a hammer and smashed her face! No more scary dolly!😳

My mud larkers are the only thing keeping me sane. I was supposed to move to England this august and now that’s canceled cuz of this pandemic and it’ll be another year. And it’s killing me not living in England when I know I belong there. It’s in my very soul to be there. So watching my girls is so soothing.

Bless Kate's precious little heart, she is so adorably excited! I have never before seen a kid her age, that show so much happiness and uncontainable excitement overload for all those amazing fantastic once in a lifetime finds, well... "besides Gail and Alex from Northern mudlarks of course"! What an awesome day, thank you,for sharing this special moment with us! I totally wish I lived near there, so I could find some of the awesome items. I see many things, i know some mudlarks who have multiples of certain items. They may not be able to take those multiples of the same items but I totally would take those rejected items!

What an amazing day for a treasure hunt! You hauled them for sure. Loved all the pottery pieces, but I dud see you walk over so many would-be pottery buttons. Kate, even if you didn't use them for buttons, the pieces could adhered to a flower pot and grouted. It could be colorful and attract more pollinators. I hope you go back there soon. Kit, in reference to the pipes, you said you could make an encyclopedia of them, I thought, "Why not?" Take photos and number each pipe, make a log of location found along with date, leaving a blank page on opposite side for any extra info found out. String the pages together with twine or the like, that way pages can be added easily. I do hope your'e not offended at my many suggestions. My mind never stops when it comes to art. crafting and bringing old found items back to life. You both do a superb and unique job of it, along with Sunny's energetic inspiration, of course.

So exciting! All the finds, so far are amazing, can't wait to see what else you have found! I like the pipe with the tiny lizard best, I think but, everything is absolutely wonderful. . Great find of the doll's head, hopefully Bitsy will have a friend soon!

Cheryl, (The Northern Mudlarks) gals found a similar doll face and placed on a beautiful rock (or fossil?) in their garden stream, with a small plant on it's head, alongside the other plants. It was so lovely. I saw it as an ode to Carmen Miranda.

My mum had a doll with a china head which she won in a raffle. While she was at school a relative came with her child. The child played with the doll and dropped it an broke the head into several pieces. My mum never forgot the doll, her joy at winning it and her pain at it being broken. Whenever I see your joy at finding doll fragments, I think of my mum and her doll and wish that she had kept it even though it was broken.

Oh no that is really sad! My grandmother had a dolls hospital when I was little. There used to be bits of broken doll everywhere and she would lovingly put them back together :)

Have you ever thought of making a story tableau with sundry bits e.g. lamb + blue and white bridge etc.and then writing the story for it? They would make really special tiles for gifts. Can't wait to meet Bitsy's little sister/ brother! (Bobsy?)
