I was fortunate to have a discussion with David about old gear and old techniques. I thoroughly enjoyed our brief interaction, loved his passion. A true gentleman who made the world a better place for having been here. He will be missed, and I hope his KZread videos will remain online for all to enjoy. It would be such a shame for all his work here to just vanish.

Dave phoned my wife (his sister) from a hotel in Tel Aviv. We could hear air raid sirens and Dave said “Don’t worry, thats just another Scud”!

It's deeply touching to think these recorded memories in the last few weeks of a person's life were made by family members to help remember, document, and keep the memories of a loved one with them when each knows their time together is coming to an end. I can't really imagine the powerful and personal thoughts and feelings felt by each party. However, I am grateful of the foresight and generosity to share some of those private recorded memories publicly with those that might have had broader connections with David. I appreciate these first hand recollections of the life of a photojournalist. I hope the Thorpe family can use these recordings along with his photographs to mount a retrospective exhibit some day celebrating David's life and work. I should like to see it!
