A Perfect Circle - Orestes with lyrics

A Perfect Circle - Orestes with lyrics
In the Homeric story, Orestes was a member of the doomed house of Atreus. Orestes was absent from Mycenae when his father, Agamemnon, returned from the Trojan War with the Trojan princess Cassandra as his concubine, and thus not present for Agamemnon's murder by his wife, Clytemnestra, in retribution for his sacrifice of their daughter Iphigeneia to obtain favorable winds during the Greek voyage to Troy. Eight years later, Orestes returned from Athens and with his sister Electra avenged his father's death by slaying his mother and her lover Aegisthus.

Orestes is part of Greek mythology. After the Trojan war Orestes father returns home and is murdered by his wife's new lover. Orestes is away and thus unable to prevent his fathers death (metaphor for a missing moment). He is conflicted and spends several years away before returning home and avenging his father. He kills both his mother and get lover. The Greek myth is about a failing household.

Close. Orestes missed opportunity is that he didnt get to kill him himself. He took her life later ad a sense of duty and retribution. That kill was to be his, she hadn't earned it even though she was a capture concubine.

She was blown away. i love Maynard!!

I'm pretty sure this is EXACTLY why Maynard wrote this. He was definitely in love with his mother (not in the Oedipus way) like every young boy is to the first woman they spend time with. He both loved her and despised her decision to hold on to a faith so strong. He's trying to "cut away and clear away" the love/hostility that he's feeling for her and her blind faith to a god that failed her. His umbilical residue is tying him to his mom and keeping him in the world of sadness and depression that ironically is the foundation for all his beautiful music. Its the sadness he is feeling at the moment as he speaks the words of the song. He doesn't want to keep "pulling her down with him, here" in this state of pain and anger. If he could find a way to sever that pure, umbilical connection, he could come to terms with his mothers "silly" decision to hold on to God instead of holding on to him. He wants to love his mother the way he did as a boy. This whole album ties into itself on sooooo many levels and is the core of Maynard. The fact that he was able to share his most inner thoughts and vulnerabilities to the entire world makes him a stronger person than the majority of all human beings.

About the note you have on the video. Here is more info: The name of this song is a reference to a Greek myth. Orestes is the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. While he is away, his mother kills his father. Later on, Orestes comes back to avenge his father, killing his mother and her lover, Aegisthus. However, breaking family ties is a terrible offense to the Erinyes, the Furies that even gods fear. They pursue Orestes around Greece, and he finds salvation in Athena’s temple, where the goddess makes a trial and acquits Orestes.

Maynard has to be in some kind of trance or possessed by a deep state of mind to come up with these complex lyrics. Even though he seems always to be complaining about his life. He is gifted with the talent to convey his feelings and emotions to huge crowd of fans. Maynard is a great performer who shows suffering and discomfort through his songs. Nevertheless he transcends music and art to become the talented musician that he really is, now and forever.

I know Orestes is related to Greek mythology and lore.... but this is what the lyrics speak to me.

I thought it was shame, too. I guess "Shape" makes more sense from a writing standpoint. Then again, I'm not quite as wacky as our boy Maynard.

So sad but true. I've been clean for over 4 years but that line gives me chills everytime I hear it. That medicated peaceful moment is so peaceful.. so numbing.. no feelings.. no emotions.. just fading in and out. Its kind scary how comforting it is to be in that state. Even worse when you can't function without being in that state.

eo me,it was like my mom and me,very toxic, abound me at 6 years old and took my brother and 3 sisters with her and left me in a place to call it abuse is a understatement, dad and his side of the family where very sick, won't go in to details, most psychologists i have seen over the years couldn't handle it and pass me on over 200 times to other, then i just stop going when i won my independence at age of 14,study every law in pa. to win against their lawyers,it didn't help that i could have been adopted by several of my mom side and last foster home.which would have been a far better future for me,but raised my self, after i got my diploma from high school at 16,and had two masters from penn. state from night school, joined the army, and all that rage, and anger helped me in the sapper unit then went on to other units to help

"Orestes is a boy's name of Greek origin that embodies resilience and strength. With its roots in the Greek words oros, meaning “mountain,” and histemi, meaning “to stand,” Orestes means "from the mountain" or "he who stands like a mountain." The name has a rich history and origin in Greek mythology and drama."-Google Gripe: 1. Phoenetics- A-rrest-these? 2. What f--ng perfect circle...? Who is getting medicated? 3. The FBI made me miss a tool show, put on fifty pounds with vericose veins and hair-loss. They keep my son from getting an education. They put poisons and viruses in my food and incessantly harrass me. They have attacked me in violent outbursts on numerous occasions.

You're completely allowed to have your own interpretation of the song. That is completely of your own opinion and separate from what the song's written meaning is. However, Greek mythology is not present in the bible due to the opposing beliefs and completely separate time periods and locations. In Christianity, there is one god. In Greek mythology, however, there is many. These are facts, and cannot be harmed by rebuttal.
