A Perfect Beginner's Hoya | Hoya multiflora

IMPORTANT: The other plant I keep calling Hoya lyi with a Y is Hoya lockii. My brain made a big fart there 😂 Hoya lyi has small, pubescent leaves, similar to Hoya thomsonii. There was a hoya under the name Hoya lii, but that one is one Hoya multiflora. Sorry!
Hello friends!
Today I bring you a video on Hoya multiflora - a hoya I think it a perfect beginner's hoya (for many reasons!) but also a hoya I never thought I would have and now it has climbed to the top of the hoyas I own and I wouldn't ever dream having a hoya collection without this hoya in it.
I hope you enjoy this video - it is quite a journey. I also tried to take some nicer shots of the flowers! :)

    I live a mile up in a desert. If I underwater more than a week and a day the leaves of my Hoya wrinkle down loosing any pliability and the next time they dry up and are no longer on the plant. That is while staying in a room with bowls of water around and a humidifier. I start to feel guilty about the one week after I last watered them.

    I just got my first Hoya November 27th. It’s a Lacunosa. Tiny. Not looking good at all. Dropped quite a few leaves. I had it in a 3” terracotta pot. Then I saw a video that they do better in plastic so I repotted it again into a 3” plastic pot. Using Black Gold potting mix that I added a lot of perlite to. I’m afraid I’m killing it somehow because it is so droopy. I’m trying to let it dry out completely but the pot is so small it’s hard to tell. Would I be better off to take it out and put it in perlite to develop the roots more? PLEASE HELP.

  • @BasiePlants

    @BasiePlants

    2 жыл бұрын

    They can do well in terracotta pot with the right amount of mix and right amount of watering. Lacunosa is a hoya that wants a bit more water - it should do well in a mix of 50% coco peat and 50% perlite and in that case, in a normal room temperature and humidity, in bright light, you should water it every 5-6 days. You may want to take it out of the pot to see if there is any root rot. If there is, I would recommend re-rooting the plant/cuttings in perlite, water or whatever method you choose :)

  • @BasiePlants

    It could be several things. I am not sure I quite understand what the leaves look like, but they can turn yellow from underwatering, pest attack (mites) or nutrient defficiency. Though when you say striped, I think of nutrient deficiency.

    I rooted mine in coco peat and perlite in a prop box. They are quite dramatic when they root. Even with tha rooting process, it took long and it got yellow. Check the stem and make sure it is not rooting. If you save the stem, it will grow. Lockii and multiflora will only put out roots at the place where they have been cut.
