I was just diagnosed with c diff. My symptoms began almost 20 years ago. I was 24 and was given antibiotics for a bad case of bronchitis, symptoms began within a week or so. I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. My symptoms weren’t as bad as this woman’s, I could still function, but I’m a little frustrated at doctors attitudes that I’m just being a hypochondriac, or I just need to eat better. If it weren’t for their ignorance I would have been spared almost 20 years of suffering

Were you also tested for SIBO? Apparently over 60% of IBS patients actually have SIBO instead.

@@maryhawker5003 They might have. I’m not sure. They did a bunch of tests back in November and that was when I got the c diff diagnosis. After a month of taking vancomycin, I still had symptoms, they did more testing and I was diagnosed with some sort of E. coli infection. After a week or so of amoxicillin, I still have symptoms. Haven’t been back to the doctor yet but I’ll probably go soon. I had some hope at first but now I’m very skeptical of both diagnoses.

@@danpeters6874 amoxicillin?!? I’ve never heard of amoxicillin to treat this severe of an infection, c. Diff or not. But your story sounds identical (minus the amoxicillin) to so many people on KZread who say in the comment section they now have SIBO after c. Diff treatment & their doctors gaslight them into believing it’s all in their head, just to get rid of patients they don’t know how to treat. Also, Doctors aren’t familiar with SIBO on a widespread scale yet, so I would highly recommend seeing a different GI doctor who can order the SIBO breath test that measures both hydrogen AND methane.

Thank you for your story! I am 26 and unfortunately contracted cdiff from taking antibiotics for a uti and wisdom tooth extraction! 2 rounds of flagyl made me extremely ill with the side effects. Currently on vancomycin and feeling much better! I am hoping it takes care of it for good. Please don't get discouraged if u contracted this! Be patient- persistent- and you will beat it! Thinking and praying for those currently suffering with it... Xoxo

It's a shame people suffer with this for 8+ months before getting on treatment because nobody knows what cdiff is until you have symptoms. Theres no signs on the hospital saying be aware of cdiff theres no warning signs of cdiff of antibiotics. Like honestly fuck America. Like I've been suffering for 8 months and they wont even give me vancomycin yet

Hi! I made the original post (can’t believe it’s been 7 years!!) - just have a different UN. I’m so so sorry you’re dealing with this and had a recurrent infection after all the treatment you’ve done… I know that is so discouraging.. especially with the side effects of the meds. Hang in there. You will make it out the other side. I can’t give medical advice of course, but just know that you have to remain mentally strong and positive. I couldn’t see my life without c diff when I was in the thick of it, but it’s been years and I’ve made it to the other side without another infection! I will pray for you tonight - a prayer for peace, guidance for your doctors, and for physical well being. I totally know what you’re going through and how discouraging c diff truly is… God bless you 💖

I’m on day 10 of straight diarrhea from c diff and she is right. No nausea for me. I started vancomycin today. Nervous but hopeful. Slightly Feel like my intestines and lady bits and butt are going to fall down/out. Went back to urgicare and they said the swelling and pressure in those areas is the inflammation. Good Rx saved me 200$ on medicine btw. Broke down and cried tonight for first time. It does take a toll and it’s kind of scary to feel the inflammation/swelling. But I am eating everything I can with probiotics and electrolyte and whatnot. I hope anyone that goes thru this gets well soon. Don’t wait 10 days like me!

Thank you Anne, for your eloquent story. I have it now, month 9. I had 2 neg tests after 3 courses of Flagil and now it's back. Here in the U.S., any other medication is prohibitively expensive. A vegan diet and 100billion probiotics helped tremendously when I wasn't on the med. Flagil actually causes nausea, diarrhea and loss of energy, so it's as bad as the disease. It was developed for the original strain and I have the newer, stronger strain.I will try fecal transplant next. I will beat it.

Thank you for this information. I am just coming out of a bad spell with C Diff. The multiple hospitalizations in isolation and being all alone when I have been home has been awful. I’m trying to get past the fear of having it come roaring back or infecting someone is all consuming. I spent my birthday in the hospital and away from my family on Thanksgiving and am hoping to be with family at Christmas. I had never even heard of C Diff

Thank you so much for telling your story. I am 10 weeks into an aggressive C Diff infection that I got in the hospital. Never heard about it. Just finished antibiotics cure nr.2 (10 days on Vancomycin and before that 10 days on Flagyl) and nothing helps. I am completely exhausted, lost lots of weight and generally in bad shape. Seeing my Doctor tomorrow and I expect a hospitalization. Don’t know what is worse. Isolation there or at home🤣. I fear further reoccurances no matter the treatment.

Dificid cured me. After having a reaction on vancomycin in the middle of my pulse dose phase. It cured me but in a way it's after that's the hardest for me. I also have IBD Crohn's. Lost 50 pounds still not eating solid food. Live on Boost (protein drink frozen the only way I can tolerate it). K8dnet stones from the chronic dehydration & even eyesight damage. This is not a joke. Now I have envirocleen in every qtr to sterilize.

@@bimmerella I feel for you. This bacteria is doing great damage. I wanted Dificid, but they didn’t want to give it to me. Since last I have done a FMT transplant and I got rid of C diff. that way but there are still a lot of symptoms. I’m in my 3rd week after the transplant and I hope my system will settle eventually. Very careful with what I eat.

@@tamiscott8352 No..I'm so sorry I haven't replied. I didn't even see these comments until today. I had a fecal transplant. It was my best friend's stool. In order for insurance to pay, we had to mix it up in a blender (yes threw it away into a hazardous waste container, but I'd rather had mailed it to my ex husband, jerk head). Anyway, we got it ready and doc inserted it during colonoscopy. I was the 13th patient to have it done. I've had it 3x since then. So for a total of 15x, I had C-Diff. But it hasn't bothered me in about 5 years. I have Crohn's Disease too. I hope you are well now. Again, I'm so sorry it took me so long. My mother died in my arms, then my sister died in 2021. Now, my daughter was found in her apartment dead on March 2nd. Police are still investigating. Autopsy and toxicology reports haven't come back yet. Detective believes possible homicide. I'm a wreck. Not looking for pity. I despise pity. But best friend is no longer best friend. In fact, no friends really. Plus my baby girl (age 40) is gone.
