A Parliamentary line trip. Goole to Wakefield Kirkgate via Snaith, Knottingley and Pontefract.
A (Silent) Cabride film filmed in 2017 across the former Lancs and Yorks Railway from Goole on the East Riding of Yorkshire to Wakefield Kirkgate (West Yorkshire), via Snaith, Whitley Bridge, Knottingley and Pontefract. The passenger service across the route between Goole and Knottingley is now down to three trains per day in both directions, which is retained as what is known a parliamentary service to avoid formally closing the route. Freight has also dramatically reduced with Drax power station now burning Biomass and Eggborough power station and Kellingley Colliery having closed.
Unfortunately as with all our older videos the sound is muted due to restrictions at the time. We hope this doesn't detract too much.

Thanks once again for showing us this parliamentry line. Its sad to see a once busy route now reduced to a limited service. The size of the station buildings indicate it was busy and of some importance.

I agree with you
Good to see a line which I never travelled on. Hope things improve for this line in the future.
Three videos in one day! Your spoiling us. A great video, just like all the others.

Thank you too
a nice run out on a ( now ) little used line, couple of points, the bridge as you pass Crofton has been re-newed this past Xmas shut-down, and you pass the site of Wakefield MPD before the lines diverge out to Normanton
Parlementaire ride, strange start ? First cross mainline then returning and cross again to head for Wakefield switch !
I filmed the route from the cab of a 141 in 1986
Excellent video, been looking for Driver eye views of this line for a while. Shame not a frequent service. What was this filmed in?

It's a shame the line has such a limited passenger service, even if was a 1 train every 2 hours, say from 6am to 19.00, it would be something.

Yes, Lets hope when the pandemic is over the Government act.
There's not a lot getting spent on check-rails on this route - some seriously long straights.😁

@@RailMart Yep, 𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 flat land. Quite a pretty area though, a lot of it anyway: Goole, maybe not quite so much. Having said that, it's a place I'd like to wander around, just oozing railway, and dockyard, history.😁
Beautiful england,love it.

From a user MK55A. I remember when we lived in Wakefield I'd cycle from our house in Sandal to watch the expresses between Leeds and Sheffield going past Common Lane, from the footbridge over the line at that point. That was in the days when the Monk Bretton route was the main express route, when the Moorthorpe route was deprecated because of subsidence; now the situation is reversed and subsidence has closed the Bretton route to everything except sand trains to the glassworks.
Silly question. What was the point of leaving the Main Line to stop at the Sudforth Lane sidings only to return to the Main Line?
