@Change MyMind you obviously don't know how predator and prey work he needed to let them know he wasn't prey plus 20 wolves in one place would decimate the local prey population so he didn't have a choice the wild is very different from the city

It's been more than 3 years but I remember it like it was yesterday. The pandemic was looming large. I was going to bed and decided to tune In to this episode expecting very little. For the next 3 hours, I was blown away by this gentleman's genuinely intriguing tale. A few months later, when I was setting up my Twitter account, I reached out to him and he actually responded to me! Glenn Villeneuve is as real as it gets - one of the nicest, smartest guys I've had a chance to talk to. This JRE episode is arguably the best out of the lot and in my opinion, Glenn was the best guest Joe has ever had. I sincerely hope he gets another chance to come on the show :)

Besides, there's PLENTY of deer out there, and it tastes MUCH better than wolf, so let the wolves continue to be Nature's Cleaners, and let the wolves naturally keep down the MASSIVE deer numbers across the US and Canada.

@@hawgood91 Pssst, stupid, READING COMPREHENSION ISSUES?? Show where I stated 'Arctic' (btw, not spelled 'Artic' ya hapless mook)?? Again, as I rightly stated, there has been an explosion of deer (especially Whitetails) in various parts of North America, including my area of New England. In the early 1900s, there was an estimated 500,000 Whitetail Deer in the US, as too much hunting almost wiped out the species. Conversely, too much hunting regulation, along with the ELIMINATION OF BIG PREDATORS LIKE MOUNTAIN LIONS AND WOLVES IN SPECIFIC REGIONS has caused the Whitetail population to explode to over 25 MILLION today. wildlifecontrol.info/cornell-deer-study/deer-populations/ The above link is one of MANY links to help enlighten you, mook. The yawn is actually purposeful body language showing non-hostility and uninterest, that wolf knew it was being watched and effectively wanted to signal a truce. I see it in domestic dogs when meeting new dogs (and in some anxious human interactions).

@@The-Dom I didn't say wolves don't yawn for other reasons like the one you gave, you dolt. God, what has happened to reading comprehension in this country? I said, the most likely reason for this particular wolf's particular yawn in this particular case has a more distilled explanation than communicating with a different species or extractive, anthropomorphic interpretation of what it "meant." Most likely, the wolf was out of breath, or worn out, so it yawned, and is also why the wolf was so passive and submissive in abandoning it's prey. That is, it was too tired to continue on. Occam's Razer. If you've studied psychology or medicine, you're familiar with the concept, and probably familiar with the cigar reference from Freud, and probably also familiar with a phrase like "seek horses not zebras." Sometimes a cigar "represents a penis; sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." Get it now?

40 years ago, I had an old neighbor tell a tale of hunting elk in Alaska. So, I'd guess this actually happened about 60 years old. Anyways they had 2 dog sled teams and 2 drivers and him. He spotted and shot an elk at a large distance. But it stood back up, so he shot it again. but when they got to the elk, they found out it was another one that was bedded down behind the first one. So, he had accidently shot 2. But they did not have capacity to carry all of 2 elk out with just 2 sled teams. So, they took one whole elk and the head mount on the 2nd. the guide said to drink as much beer as they could and make a complete circle of pee 'no gaps", around what was left of the remaining elk. And if they were fast enough getting back the wolves would not cross the pee path. they returned in less than 24 hrs to find lots of wolf tracks around the pee line, but never crossed and they were able to take the rest of the meat. I was in his home once and he had animal busts from just about every animal. I've never understood the whole taxidermy thing, just as long as they eat the meat.

This story is true as told to me as a child, my uncle's father in law was a trapper in Alaska ( he actually helped the government map out Alaska ) he was out on a trip ( as he put it ) and he had bagged an elk he was cleaning it and he turns around and he says there's about 8 wolves he told me they were slowly starting to circle him but were not acting overly aggressive but were definitely getting into a position to make a move if that's what they decide , he said that he had his gun and could kill them if needed ( as he put it they the ones in danger ) but he said he was planning on being out for a long time ( he would bush camp through Alaskan winter's this guy was a legend ) and he said 1 bullet is potential food and they are a limited resource .. so he said he cut off a leg joint and threw it to the alpha it drragged it off and the rest followed ( this is my favorite part of his story ) he said I learns something about life that day .. you don't need to bribe everyone as long as you bribe the right one )😁

    Жыл бұрын

@M118LR wolves attacked humans and livestock so badly they were literally hunted to near extinction on just about every continent they existed, and as recently as the US's frontier period were still primary threats. The reason is because once the packs get big enough, they will try to take down and eat anything and everything. How bad are we talking? Sacking entire towns in the 1200's throughout the UK, to the point they were hunted down and exterminated by 1390. If that's not crazy enough to put it into perspective for you: they tried to take Paris. A superpack had ravaged the countryside and finally got big enough to take on a city, led by, "Cortaud," a particularly large and particularly intelligent wolf that earned the name by predicting it was going to be trapped by portcullis. If you don't know what a portcullis is -- its literally the internal Castle gates they use to prevent infantry from entering or to trap them in during sieges. They used something to stop entire infantry units... on a wolf... and failed (but only narrowly: hence Courtaud, which apparently means bobtail in French, as the sheer force cut his tail completely off). Worse? This only seemed to piss the wolf off, and it started specifically raiding that area of town, and killing guardsmen. Not women and children -- armed guardsmen. There were 3 further failed attempts to trap Courtad and dozens more died before they finally caught him successfully... after successfully keeping a city in terror for months. Mind you not just any city -- but literally Paris. Now, if even that wasn't a good enough example because it's "too long ago" and "outdated" for your sensibilities: attacks like this have happened as recently as the world wars, to the point the armies stopped fighting each other because they were taking too many casualties from the wolves that were hunting both of them. Wolves are skittish around humans, until they're not. Acting like that isn't the case, or that they wont just decide to eat you is not smart. That current skittish state only comes after literal millennia of being hunted to keep them at a point where don't have to genuinely worry about them -- but that doesn't mean that was always the case; warnings like Red Riding hood used to be absolutely necessary, while also teaching easy to remember allegorical truths, simultaneously.

@@timeformegaman Wolves are like any other animal, when starving they will attack anything to quench their hunger, even if it's a deadly animal like a bear or a human because they instinctually know they will die if they don't. We domesticated them by throwing them scraps and that method still works today, I know a lot of people that have half-way domesticated wolves/coyotes on their property by feeding them (not what I would do personally but it's their property), they're a lot more reasonable than a wild bear, canines have a respect for dominance hierarchies unlike bears or moose, those are the two animals I would never want to be face to face with in the wild. Or big cats, FUCK big cats.
