A bite of food is like a hug of safety. It feels so comfortable to chew all that tasty food, it feels as if life is not always so hard… so how to get healthy when food is such a source of pleasure? Do I sound like a drug addict yet? At least, when you’re addicted to drugs you have to stop 100%, but food is always around…

yes, AMEN! the trick is to find a way to create the same effect the food has, ie do some inner child work, love yourself unconditionally, feel the presence of God, speak to a friend and get validation and a sincere hug, etc etc. i'm not saying it's easy, i'm just saying try other things to increase dopamine production. perhaps one thing will work. and yes, addiction to food is not different than drug addiction, since food is in effect our drug, the chief difference being, as you pointed out, we can stop drugs altogether but we must eat. stopping overeating is like asking an alcholic to have a small amount of liquor at a party

Are modern people ever truly hungry? No. Emotional eating has nothing to do with hunger….it’s to fill a void, an emptiness that stems from emotion…anxiety, stress, sadness, anger….you name it. I believe in looking within and figuring out the trigger and looking for positive ways to fill the void.

Hey. I’d love to connect as well. I went from not eating and being underweight to emotional eating and I’m skinny as well but terrified of gaining weight because of this habit. Before I eat I am extremely stressed about it and once I do it I feel calm and comfortable again. I don’t eat all day so I can have a big meal at night so I can feel like I’ve “earned it”. Well I must be a special case because how I view my emotional eating is that I just want to eat more. I don't go buy ice cream and cookies. I grab another plate of steak and veggies and potatoes and beans and fruits and everything. I don't need processed junk foods to fill that void, but I still emotionally eat and it does still lead to weight problems and I'm sure other dangers of overeating. Why do nutritionists always have to tie the problem to sugar as if sugar is forcing us into these problems? We actually have a problem with our own mindset and psychology that's drawing us into our problem but so far no diet expert really understands it or seems to have struggled with it themselves. And not everything is neuro-chemistry related, some people just like good tasting foods and have preferences. It's sugar and fat combined with other spices/flavorings and cooked just right that people go to

I think with guys food becomes a competition though. Like society has indoctrinated them with “healthy boy servings“ especially in the south where I grew up. You’ve got “hungry man“ meals and the notion that portion sizes should be larger, or at least that you should go back for seconds. Or thirds. I don’t know how many guys I’ve seen come through a buffet line saying that they need “more“ because they’re a “big old boy.” But no matter how “big” your stomach is still roughly the size of your fist, so it’s still overkill and destructive to your health.

Here's something that works for me, for those who're watching it because you have the same problem - try to keep a food diary. Sometimes we do stress eating because we don't visualize how many things we have actually eaten. Put down the items. Use a food log software, read the calories - not for self-blaming, but just for drawing attention to your body, listening to your body's signal that it has received enough energy for today and needs no more. Then focus on what's truly stressing you out, and try to tackle that problem directly, rather than taking the indirect route through hurting your body.

I know right, all these tips seem to be too superficial. For example, chewing gum makes me hungry. 🙄 What is helping me, I take 15 min/day to meditate (or call it staring at a candle) and look at the feelings that come up. It‘s really interesting and after some time you will feel all the bad thoughts are gone and you are relaxed. Another thing I do is audio hypnosis. I tried it for some days now and it really helps, you can listen to it when going to sleep.

Well, I think, on the one hand these are useful tips, because they are simple. But on the other hand, these are general tips and some people have deeper problem with their overweight. So, definitely, this requires an individual approach to the problem. It’s necessary to take into account some features of body and psyche. I have problems from time to time with overweight because I emotionally eat. It’s hard for me to stop uncontrollable eating. So, I try to fill up my free time with different interesting activities. And I do it in places when I can’t get food. I try not to eat after 6 p.m. So, when I feel hunger (emotional hunger) I think: “I’ll not eat now, but tomorrow in the morning I’ll eat everything I want.”

I quite eat a lot even junk food. My dad was shocked that i eat a lot, like i can even eat a full of rice and then he comment me like "you're getting bit chubby/fat, you should slow down eating" i explain to him what this feeling, he kinda have no idea what im talkin' about 😅 I try to eat a lil' bit and control myself from the hunger, even im full i felt wanna eat more, im quite bit worried i might get fat. Has anyone know this kind of symptoms? im new of this.

I would ask yourself what problems is the food solving for you? Does it actually help beyond the few minutes of relief you get? How are you feeling afterwards? Are you happier? Less stressed? Overcoming emotional eating is a long process but I can be done when you start digging into why you turn to food and what you made food mean over the years. Once you know that you can start reframing these beliefs about food which ultimately will lead to complete freedom.

Never before I have ever watched something so useless and tone deaf regarding emotional eating. Emotional eaters know they're not actually hungry. The issue isn't physical, it's psychological. A nutritionist isn't qualified to talk about it or give advice. Sure, she can give advice on how to avoid the junk on a food binge, but to prevent the food binge needs a mental health specialist. I know I'm not hungry. But I need to eat. And until I figure out the root cause of that, and learn how to manage my emotions properly, no amount of nutritional advice is gonna help.

Hello, I don't know if what I say helps at all, since I'm no psychologist nor counsellor and I'm just speaking from experience. They say the greatest gift a dad could give to their child is to love their mum. I wholeheartedly agree. I came from a family where my dad was physically and extremely emotionally abusive. My mum, like you, also considered leaving, but always told us she didn't leave because of us. My dad made her feel very stupid and useless, she binge ate a lot and eventually came to believe she was nothing without him. She became terribly bitter and resentful, he became increasingly abusive and our lives soon became filled with constant fear, anxiety and regret. I'm in my 30s now, but the pain of seeing my mother suffer and the effect of the abuse still haunts me. A loving partner should be someone who protects and supports you, not hurt and discourage you. If your partner hurts you and demeans you in any way, I think it is in both your and your child's best interest to leave and seek help. It's scary and it's really tough to make that step, but it's worth it. Hopefully there are women's refuges or support groups in your area you can get help from. Honestly, you deserve so, so much more and your child deserves to grow up happy with their loving mum. As tough as things may be financially, it's much better to have a poorer life than a chained one. I wish you the very best 💕

Please, please leave. It is abusive to your son to stay in that environment. You staying shows that you will betray yourself. That your boundaries and needs don’t matter. One of the most powerful things we can do for our children, is to model self respect, self advocacy. I was an RN for over 10 years. I promise, that much of the diseases I saw are linked to childhood trauma. Your child doesn’t need to be hit himself to experience profound, life altering effects. Please look into the ACE’s studies and neuroscience which backs this up. I’m pursuing degrees in neuroscience and psychology due to my passion for the connection of all these things. Please learn your attachment style. Learn why you attracted your partner and why you were attracted to him. We will attract at the level of self belief. If we don’t honor ourselves (by speaking up for our needs and boundaries, seeing our own incredible self worth) we will attract someone who won’t honor those either. Our core wounds (developed in childhood) become the framework for how we see ourselves and what we tolerate. The fact that you weren’t out in an instant and are even questioning whether to stay…tells me one of your core wounds is “I’m unworthy”. Therefore you’ll tolerate things that reflect that back. We develop limiting beliefs and cognitive distortions to make sense of things, due to much of this core wounding. You can heal. It is possible. However, you need to get out of the continually re-wounding environment. Not only is it incredibly dangerous (if you die, your son will not have a mother, but will have a violent (unstable emotional) caregiver, as the only one taking “care” of him. You need to zoom out and see things clearer. You can survive on your own. I did it. I was a single mom who made it through nursing school. You have to let go of the narrative of “what could be”, regarding your marriage. No amount of time should be the anchor for why you should stay for dangerous, abusive behavior. If you stay a moment longer…THAT is time list for YOU and your healing. I wish you peace and healing 💫💛

@@dannyHighfruit by that logic, plants are sentient beings too so eating them should give us bad karma. i’m not trying to argue tho, i get your point and completely support veganism/vegetarianism. i personally haven’t ever had turkey anyway lol

Came here because i’m so tired of feeling like i need to eat down my feelings, and when i don’t i just find something else that will satisfy me enough like scrolling hours through social media finding myself spending most of my day and hours that i could’ve done anything else. I have a very unhealthy relationship with food and realize i need help.
