    ❤I think the noisy daytimes by humans and their machines inhibit us from hearing and appreciating the sounds of birds and insects. Hearing the sounds of birds, insects, chicken, cows in this video has reminded me of the magnitude of nature.

    In Zimbabwe we eat ugali too as a staple but we call it sadza in Shona. Most southern Africans eat it too but we cook it a little softer and not so thick. It’s known as pap by most southerners. Your village is just gorgeous 😍

    Jael, this has got to be one of my favorite videos from you! Oh, gal, those evening sights, sounds, and smells in the tropical African rural area, what can I say! And you sounded so poetic, have you ever considered publishing some prose or poetry? We made our Ugali like you do yours but sometimes, just to give it a different taste and flavor, we made it ahead of time and then wrapped it in banana leaves and steamed it in a saucepan on the Jiko. And for our Tilapia, we either had it fresh in a stew like the one you made (fish fresh, not fried before stewing), or we had it smoked and then added it to a peanut sauce. Too delish! Question: 1. You milk your cows twice a day: if they produce more milk than you can use in your household, what do you do with the extra, do you sell it? 2. It is a hot dry season over there; if you run out of water in that water tank, what do you do for domestic water needs? Thanks for a great video. I love the variation in your content.

  • @jaelofthevillage

    @jaelofthevillage

    Thank you so much. We don't sell the extra milk. I use it to make ghee,cheese, cream and other milk products. We have a well that never dries up. It helps other villagers, too, in the dry seasons.

I just love looking at your videos and dreaming of my potential future. I really love all of your trees and flowers and the sounds. All of it is just so peaceful. I feel you are very blessed and I hope that I can pass this down to my children and someday they can appreciate it. Thank you so much for your videos. They inspire me everyday to keep chipping away at my dream. 🥰

    How is it odd for someone to buy land in Africa? It's amazing coz even the west bring us revenue by people coming to see our beautiful continent. You've already heard he bought in the mountains and that's where nature is real. Welcome to Africa my friend we grow old together. And in the contrary even our people in Africa go as far as buying the land in diaspora,it depends with one's taste

    I didn't mention which of the 54 countries I bought in because the most important part to me was that I was able to go home to the motherland of my ancestors. It doesn't matter which country you choose, just matters that your soul is happy. I smile each morning I wake, reminding myself I own land in Africa for my children to return when they are ready. Every morning I smile knowing whenever I want to I can go home now🥰@@bonniek20

    Hi there, I am enjoying your episodes. I have not experienced a village life, although I was born there. My father worked for the government. So my mum, my older sister and I (was 2 yrs old) left the village to go to the capital city to join father. That was almost 5 decades ago. But the good thing was we always went back to the village when my father was on his recreation leave (after 2 years). I really enjoyed those times. Now I am almost retiring and am planning to settle back in the village. I follow your site because it has helped me so much on my preparation and settlement in a new environment and how to adapt to the village life and the people. Warm regards.

    Jambo Jael🥰. Thank you for sharing your evening with us! The sounds in your atmosphere are still serene in the evenings. There is a beauty that surrounds nature that is calming even when it’s loud. Ugali was the first food that I asked about when I talked with my Bungoma family. I always wanted to try to make it but I don’t have a wooden paddle😂🤣😂. Your meal looked very inviting. Like how you and your sisters gathered for your evening meal. Family communication is very important. I remember your vlog of the family gathering to celebrate members moving to the US. I enjoy watching your vlogs always. Mungu akubariki 💜🙏🏾🫶🏾🌺🙋🏾‍♀️

    I'm always surprised by how much parts of Africa look like Australia. We don't eat ugali in Australia but fish and seafood are very popular and we eat it in many ways - fried and served with potato chips is popular as a take-away meal. I pan fry it, make it into south-east asian type curries, mix the flesh with potato or sweet potato and herbs and shape into patties which I then fry in a pan. So enjoying your vlogs.

    Ugali (maizemeal) has a lot of sugar, in the form of starch. The sugar is released when starch is broken down in your body. Indeed ugali is a a contributing factor to diabetes in black communities. It certainly contributes to obesity.
