A non-rushed look at Meta's v67 and Fluid's latest beta. Are browser apps better?

Ойындар

v67 is out in the wild in Meta's Public Test Channel. The spatial experience is becoming even more ubiquitous. In this video I take a slow walk through both v67 and Fluid's latest UI update to show you what's possible both in the Quest's native OS as well as a stand alone browser app. The similarities are impressive! And in some areas Fluid's app provides more functionality. It's amazing that in the last few months advancements have come this quickly.

Just a guess everything is probably somewhere between 72hz and 90hz I also don’t know if setting the 120hz setting does anything in the main quest OS. i just tested v67 and for my usecase it's not really at a point i personally want it to be. I often use 2D windows while i am in a 3D native app or using Virtual Desktop. I often have a browser, chat, audio player or notpad website open in the background while in a game. Either i play music or have to check something, so i press the menu button to see and control the 2D apps. And here comes the 1st issues. Only one window is left at the center and it always snaps to the same position. If i resize it and go back and forth between 3D and 2D it always snaps to the default size, which is very annoying. At least this worked in v66. The option of having the windows near and further away also seem to be removed. In older versions you could actually have the three fixed windows open at the same time, but that also has been removed. The whole idea of having multiple 2D apps running in the background is reduced to the bare minimum with this new firmware. In addition to this the windows positioning with the controllers is not very good. You could pick a window and move it to a specific position, but if you want to move it back and forth you cannot use the thumbstick, which would be the most intuitive way if you use a controller. I really wonder who does the actual tests at Meta for different usecases. It all may work if you just want to to work with a couple of 2D and using hand tracking, but once you use the controllers and a combination between 2D and 3D/VR it's barely usable.

As someone who uses the Quest 3 as no-laptop coding setup (with Squircle and Godot IDE) the potential here is nuts. I do wanna see them give up on the dock though. Just let us freeform all six possible apps, and revamp the launcher. They don't have to steal it from Vision Pro (I'd actually prefer that they didn't) but I do wanna see the app launcher get way better.

Apple, with its spatial computing, multi-windowing and eye control, seems to be holding back the development of virtual reality.
