A NEW KIND OF GROOVE?... Adam Neely Gatecrashes SBL!

Музыка

► Check out Adam's AWESOME course here: scottsbasslessons.com/blog/a-...
Ok... have you heard of Quintuplet Swing?!
You might not have heard of it - but - you will have probably heard it being used in quite a few records over the last few years...
Records?! Lol... that shows how old school I am ;)
Anyway, in this lesson you're going to find out what it is AND how to use it...
Oh... and we've officially been gatecrashed... the phenomenal Adam Neely is your tutor in this lesson.
Secondly... the bass lesson you're about to watch is part of the brand new course we've just released into the course library here at ScottsBassLessons... introducing "Decoding the Low End with Adam Neely"
While other bassists have pursued somewhat more conventional careers, Adam Neely has always taken a different path.
In this new course, Adam introduces some trailblazing ideas geared towards the needs of today's professional musician. You’re going to learn about polyrhythms and odd time signatures, the relationship between chords and different intervals, how you can relate harmonic theory to the bass and how you can use all of these ideas to improve your own bass playing.
In This New Course You’re Going to Learn:
- How to feel free within odd time signatures.
- Quintuplet Swing and why music theory is like stamp collecting.
- Reharmonizing, arranging and performing within a modern day framework.
- The importance of how we measure sound.
- All about Adam’s take on ‘phonometrics’
- How to be more expressive with advanced rhythmic ideas.
- How to apply chordal concepts to a melody.
- All about the unique harmonic signature of the bass guitar.
- And much, much more...
You can check out Adam's new course here: bit.ly/2E88EVF
As always, see you in the shed...
Scott :)

I've always enjoyed Adam's ability to explain more involved or complicated musical concepts and theory in simple to understand terms. He's a really good teacher. I knew he was a talented player, but I was still surprised during parts of this video with his speed and how just basic and simple he makes it seem! The drummer was great too! I'd love to sit in a room with them while they jam.. Ideally, I'd like to play too, if they felt like handicapping their abilities so I could keep up! Haha. Scott- Thank you for playing a role in bringing this magic to the masses, sir! Sending Peace & Love from Missouri, USA -Todd

The traditional Hora is a 5/4 swing *exactly* like this (1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2) although much slower. They’ve generally been moved to 3/4 or 3/8 to simplify the transcription and reading. But “swinging 5” has been in the Balkans for centuries.

Jake Sachs I noticed he sounded odd and now that you mention copyright, that might actually be the issue. The bots KZread uses to comb out copyright infringements might automatically mute the music in this video. Very inspiring stuff, I think a lot of bias against this style of electronic future prog jazz comes from insecurity of not being on this level of awesome skill level. I want to learn! Thanks Adam I’ll be checking out more of your vids, and thanks Scott for making this happen.

This segment on subdividing 4/4 into quintuplets was great! If you have watched/listened to Jacob Collier (and really, who hasn't by now) this is something he loves to do and talk about, but it didn't "click" with me until this video. It was really helpful to hear it slowed it down! It got me thinking about how, usually, odd time signatures like 5/4 sound off-kilter. But somehow, speeding up the 5 and integrating it into a 4/4 structure makes it sound funky, but yet it still sounds "correct" too. Anyways, this seems like a great course - really quality content here.

First of all, Great music and great playing! Back in the mid 70's a friend played for me an LP of the Chocolate Dandies recorded in the 20's. There was a piece that had this swing rhythm that was more choppy than your regular swing, a very distinctive feel. Well that must have been quintuplet swing or something similar. It was fantastic and I never heard anything like it before or since (until hearing this video and Adam's videos on this subject).

OK WOW.... I just gained a LOT of respect for adam......... he needs to display that he's this good more often....... Sometimes he seems like a guy who isn't realyl good at music but KNOWS a lot about it.......... then tries to teach people who are good at music. This is a VERY subtle back of the mind type thing. It took me like 5 days of watchign him to realize he was this good, and it's not even HIS CHANNEL! I GUARANTEE he would get more first impression viewers to view him more often if people immediately knew he was this good. Please someone who he will listen to should give him this advice.

Yeh, watch her Alter Ego video. It's one of the most listenable complex drumming parts I've heard, and it's full of quintuplets. At first you sit there and can't count a single thing she's doing. It's really hard to think that way if you haven't spent time doing it. I sat down last night with a drum practice pad and played around with it, and it makes a lot more sense to me now.
