Lets Goooo!! My blacksmithing journey begins!
Over the last few weeks the Mark 1 broadsword has started to take shape.
The goal of this project is to fabricate a basket hilted broadsword, that is able to be used safely in a HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) setting. Inspired by real Scottish and English style weapons. I want to make a piece that I am proud of while also understanding that I will be upgrading to a Mark 2 as soon as all my other projects are wrapped up.
While there have been a few hiccups, forging the cross guard and cutting the basket hilt out of sheet metal has gone fairly smoothly. Too smoothly perhaps? Only time will tell.
Next Time we are moving on to the grip, pommel and maybe even assembly!
