A New Hard Ketone Alcohol Drink, That's Ethanol-Free (R 1,3-butanediol)

Ketone Aid came developed a novel hard-ketone drink that's free of ethanol, featuring 1,3-butanediol. 1,3-butanediol a precursor to the main ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) but it also seems to calm the central nervous system.
If you know someone who over-consumes alcohol, this hard ketone drink maybe a healthier alternative-.
**Personally I've found this can help take the edge off after a stressful day and doesn't comprise sleep in the same way alcohol does.

Really interested, but these guys take "champagne taste on a beer budget" to a whole new level. I know it is new, & cost drops per can in bulk, but $49 for a sixer is nuts! I could do ketogenic coke for that price. IT is a great idea, & I would love to try it, but as someone who loves to brew I drink for the flavor, & social aspects vs the buzz. I think for all those White Claw Crossfitters this will be a huge hit. I look forward to the day I can find it locally, & at a more reasonable price.

Hey Larry, Frank here, CEO Hard Ketones. I realize it is pricey. Even though we charge a token $4 for shipping, the actual shipping price is up to $25 per 6 pack order. This is Fedex rates including 21 and over signature fees. So half of that price is shipping. That is why the larger orders are better on a per can price. Also this drink is actually half the cost of our other drinks, on a cost per gram of ketones. That stuff is used by 80% of the Tour De France teams. And taking coke won't mimic a 3 day fast in 15 minutes! Ha! Thanks for your comment! (DM me)

But what does it taste like? My immediate thought would be to make a product from a robustly flavoured red wine from which the ethanol has been removed, but maybe the taste of the 1,3,butanediol would ruin it. Mind you, when you consider the odd flavours of Retsina, or Georgian wines made in clay vessels, then maybe one could get used to it.

The thing I do worry about is the inflamatory effect of the ethanol, since I otherwise steer clear of foods that might lead to inflamation. So a red wine with 1,3-butanediol replacing the ethanol would certainly suit me. Anyway, early days yet. Who knows how big this will get in future!

I’ve been drinking this for a couple of months. I’m a seasoned drinker ( 45 years ) and in my opinion, it’s ok. Just ok. The buzz is quite different than a regular alcohol drink. It has a very chemically smell and taste …. So I drown it with tons of ginger ale. I also couple it with a small dose CBD. It does the job for me. Once in a big while I crave the regular alcohol buzz and I have a few regular drinks. I don’t mix this stuff with regular alcohol.

Ethanol hits a bunch of different GABA a receptors. we haven’t even seen what specific subtypes or where on the receptor this compound binds, so I wouldn’t say that it is exactly the same, it could bind to any number of different allosteric binding pockets for the gaba a receptor, all of them having their own different and unique affects and properties. Also ethanol antagonizes Nmda activity and various other receptors besides working on gaba a. Although I’m assuming you’re talking about gaba a allosteric modulation when you talk about the “alcohol receptor”. Ethanol is a very “dirty” drug meaning it has many other aspects of his pharmacology besides Gaba a allosteric modulation. In fact even at the gabba receptor it modulates it in like three different places. And each of those places does a different thing. And each of those places also has specific sub types that do different things! It’s complicated shit bro. Also saying that this thing doesn’t have the same side effects is not something you should be saying at this point. The reason is that although I think this substance is probably worth researching for the normal public we don’t know much about it yet, from what I understand many users of this do report headaches! Acidosis is also something that is very possible! Probably more likely than with ethanol. This drug might even be more dangerous for some people because of its conversion to ketones. And if you know anything about ketones you should know what keto acidosis is.

Hey @GailGowen, I hear you! Half of that cost is the actual Fedex $25 cost for shipping water and the 21+ signature requirement. The larger sets are better on a cost per can. You can also try the 1 can, but we lose $10 on those orders, ha!. Anyhow we guarantee it, especially if you say "Mike sent me, and it isn't for me". And we have done that. @@hardketones hey, Frank. Just wanted to drop you an FYI about my experience. When I tried it, I was just getting over a covid infection. I hadn't tested negative yet, but my symptoms were really short lived. The next day I was feeling a little blue. The second day I was hit with a terrible bout of anxiety and depression. (47 yo with no history of this) The worst of it lasted only a few days, but I actually ended up going to a clinic because I had never felt anything like it before and I thought there was something really wrong. So I don't know if this episode was caused by some kind of post Covid brain inflammation, or the drink, or a combination, or something totally separate. But it was coincidental enough that I feel like I needed to let you know. I'm so sorry I can't report a great experience! I sincerely hope it was not actually related and you have success with this product.

There is some SERIOUS misinformation in this video. 1,3 butanediol will suppress REM sleep and result in withdrawal states just like any other GABA agonist. Similarly to alcohol, it also has diuretic properties and causes dehydration. The constellation of the above cause hangovers. The only accurate part of this video is that it is not metabolized into acetylaldehyde, which is highly hepatotoxic, but not the cause of hangovers. 1,3butanediol is metabolized into beta hydroxybuterate which is harmless. It seems like a much healthier alternative to ethanol and I hope to see it become mainstream and better studied.

The gin and tonic version is like hard tonic flavor, not too enjoyable, but can be covered with added monkfruit, etc Effects 'beer version' -- Not really any drunk feelings, but sort of a ketone buzz, which is kind of like a relaxed nicotine, higher blood-ketone feel 'G&T version' -- Again, not drunk, but i feel more talkative, less hungry, and a good energy buzz from ketones -- I feel like they're great for the work-day to relax, focus, etc -- and also would be great for exercise energy. Overall, they're fun, a bit pricey, but nice to drink when hungry and wanting to extend a 'fast' - and also for a relaxed-focus feel. Curious what other people feel
