unless Ding quits chess before the World championship, he is losing. Ding ain't fit sadly. I really like Ding as a person tbh. I mean who won't. Nepo lost his world championship match cause he seemed to take Ding pretty lightly. He was ahead twice in the match and in both times Ding came back. The Nepo we see in Candidates never does that. Plus if you go back and see Nepo's body language back then he was a little snobby underestimating Ding since winning the Candidates back then by a mammoth margin of 1.5 points. Its like Nodirbek did in Prague (1.5 margin but not the snobbybpart) and everyone was telling Nodirbek missed out on the Candidates. But Nodirbek and Guki alongwith Giri and Wei Li were joint first in the Tata Steel after Wei Li clinched it in the Tie breaks beating Nodirbek and Guki (who beat Giri) just before the Prague masters. If you observe Guki, he never underestimates his opponent unlike Nepo has a habit of doing. Caruana, Hikaru and Carlsen all have a habit of underestimating their opponents, which Gukesh never does. He respects all opponents and fears probably only Carlsen (I mean who doesn't fear Carlsen). That's why Guki will win unless Ding forfeits and Hikaru and Guki has to fight it out.

I have a slightly different take on this. If in 6 month time Ding regains his health physically and mentally he won't be a cakewalk as some are suggesting. It will be one hell of a fight. I will watch Ding closely in upcoming Norway masters esp how he tackles Carlsen.

Loving the content on this channel! What a welcome addition to the chess podcasting scene you are! Your English is fantastic, by the way. I agree with everything you say in this video. The Fabi/Nepo exchange was absolutely heartbreaking. Like watching two samurai warriors strike each other down at the exact same moment with swords. What pathos! Though my respect for those gentlemen couldn’t be higher, one senses their time in the sun is over, and that the new generation has arrived in force. A fascinating era in the chess world has begun.

I doubt it. He will slowly start focussing on Rapid and Blitz and may lose a bit of rating here and there. He is a human being plus a kid. As a society we must protect him by not hyping him much. Last year after he crossed 2750 folks hyped him and he lost about 25-30 elos in Sinqlefield Cup and everyone started telling him off. People are calling Arjun of farming when all he is doing is trying to play tournaments. Let's protect all these kids, Nodirbek, Arjun, Guki Pragg so that they don't lose focus and inspire us all in the future.

Beautiful upload on a interesting topic. No guesswork , all evidence based. You made my day ,so thanks. I also agree with you Gukesh 's play in the 2nd half, was by a distance, the highest level achieved by any player in the tournament right after that unfortunate loss to Firouja. Carlsen too might have found him hard nut to crack. Ding Liren will have a terrible fight on his hand defending his title in 6 months time.

I was expecting more fire works from Prag, but spot on about Arjun Erigaisi. he narrowly missed candidates, with Prag in w.c and to Gukesh in fide circuit. It seems like atleast some of them are going to be consitantly above 2750, or may even reach 2800. Gukesh certainly energised the young lot. My next candidates includes Nodirbek, Arjun,Prag again. The other 5 could be the mix of old guards, middle and new guys. players like Wei yi, Vidit, Vincent, Parham, le quang liem, may also have a chance along side the old guard. But then 2 years is a long time

There is Essipenko too that i love despite the fact that we don't see him as often since the conflict. In one of the future candidates tournament we are gonna see Gukesh, Prag, Abdusattorov, Keymer, Firouzja, Essipenko, the phenomon Abhimanyu Mishra (15 years old) who won againts Ivanchuk and i put an empty space for the 8th candidate ... There's so many young monster that we don't know yet. Kitty is cute, however i would like to see the bigger cats that were on the last video.

I won't say Guki played the best chess but rather he played the most solid. I think Nakamura had some beautiful games which he won and loss too. Firoujza's game with Nepo was a brilliant one by Alireza. And I think the best match of the tournament was between Nepo and Fabi, the last match of the tournament. The longest match of this Candidates and that King to a2 move that Fabi missed. Agadmator said it right. It was a 3000 elo move. I think the top seeds didn't anticipate that someone other than them can get +4 in this tournament. Nepo and Fabi didnt push enough with Abasov (Fabi drew with Black and same was Nepo) and same against VD. Naka lost to VD twice which definitely affected his chances even after he picked up pace in the second half. What Guki did in this tournament is what Nodirbek (in both Tata Steel and Prague) or even Carlsen does in these type tournaments, beat the comparatively weaker opponents with any colour and draw out the stronger ones. Giri and Pragg over does this. But Guki did it absolute correctly.

These young guys will surpass Magnus. That's how it has been all through history. On the world championship - it has been the most prestigious title in chess, and Magnus chose not to compete. The game is bigger than any one person. If you do not play you don't get the title. I feel Magnus is doing what some boxers do - get to the top and try not to fight any new commers.
