    Agree it's a timeless and beautiful design - but that exhaust note, at least in the video, sounds absolutely flaccid - like a nasty wet fart. OK that is a little hyperbolic, the exhaust would be acceptable in a sports sedan - and maybe it sounds better in person - but for a supercar it's just not up to par. Then there is the suspension which is apparently tuned for a super smooth quarter mile track. Maybe they'll sort some of this stuff out in coming years and the car will become the beloved classic the design deserves.

    I own one. Absolutely love it! Best car I have owned. Better than Ferraris I owned and 991.2 GT3. Love the accessibility and comfort, I would take this and drive straight to the south of France. The 8th gear is an overdrive. The GT mode in combo with the ‘soft suspension’ button gives a really soft comfortable ride. It breaths like a Lotus, and much softer than a 458 Italia of GT3. Then you can turn it to sport and it will bring the car to life. It’s so fast! This is a car I long to driving it! And best feature…the turbos that you hear when accelerating, absolutely great experience!

    Correct. It’s very a very strange opinion on the suspension , since other reviews, including top gear, on B roads say that the car is very supple especially compared to other cars in its class. They just can’t lie all, it’s impossible, the US reviews also call it very comfortable. Maybe it’s just a case with this exact car, something is wrong here.

  • @julianevans9548

    I wondered if there could be something wrong with the suspension on this example. Because all of the magazines compliment the ride. Are they talking garbage? I'm not ruling that out, but it seems more than a little odd. CAR: 'A supple ride' Car and Driver: 'ride is reasonably compliant with the adaptive suspension in its most comfortable mode; it soaks up bumps well enough to consider driving it daily or taking it on a road trip' Autoexpress: 'a ride quality that, in its softest of three settings, is really very forgiving. It allows the car to flow with the road, rather than hop from one crest to the next' Top Gear: 'light on its feet, moves gracefully and easily over rough roads' and 'the ride is, well, wonderful' EVO: 'The ride quality in the default ‘GT’ mode is very good at isolating the occupants from the worst of British roads'.

    I really genuinely believe that your example might have some problem because the suspension of the MC20 is one of the most compliant I've known to the point that it sometimes doesn't match the engine and chassis. Your observation on the ride quality (or lack of it) is the thing that strikes me most about this review. When Harry Metcalf tested the MC20 he said that in GT mode it rode beautifully and you can see this on his review as the camera remains stable throughout, even on his famous stretches of poor road. This leads me to suspect there must be something wrong with the specific car you tested as Harry makes no reference whatsoever to poor ride quality in any part of his review. Thoughts?

    Everyone likes different things and I respect that, however the time I have spent in an MC20 was mega and I loved it. In GT mode, for example, I found it compliant and easy, certainly not fidgety and difficult. The majority of road testers love it and they are a critical bunch usually. The one thing I did find difficuly to adjust to was the lack of engine breaking which is a trait of the v6 and meant it requires more braking than many other high end cars that I have driven. But I got used to it. I think these will setlle around the £135k mark and that will make them mega value. The options are silly expensive - but so are Ferrari and Lambo options - and so waiting for them to settle and picking one up with £50k of options means that someone else did you a favour.

    I recommend that you learn how to use a comma properly and learn the difference between "braking" and "breaking". A lack of engine braking isn't a trait of V6 engines, F1 cars have V6 engines. Engine braking is more influenced by the compression ratio, the layout is not relevant. By all accounts the MC20 has fantastic braking overall with no critique of the engine braking by anyone who has actually driven the car.

  • @jamesmay1322

    @jamesmay1322

    Just goes to show how wrong perception can be. Tyre reviews have tested both Bridgestones and Michelins and the Bridgestones are objectively quicker around both a wet and dry track, (though to be fair in the dry it's marginal - anything but in the wet though) and that's only possible if you have more, not less, grip. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmVk249xZ9LPdJc.html The Bridgestones do have a stiffer side wall though.

  • @no66pdk4

    @no66pdk4

    @@jamesmay1322 Depends on context too. eg Pirellis have lots of grip on a lap but are not very good when cold. Normal road driving at 70% the Bridgestones don't feel like they have the grip of Michelins. I've got enough miles on all of them to know what feels good and what doesn't. I did test drive the MC20 in the wet, not since, and agree they had lots of grip then.

  • @jamesmay1322

    @@no66pdk4 But you're still only making a subjective assesment. You don't actually KNOW they're worse, they just FEEL worse. That's not the same thing at all. But granted tyres are as much about confidence as objective performance so if you feel the Michelins give you that then it's the better tyre for you. At the end of the day that's all that counts. My own personal experience (granted on a far less powerful car and different sizes) is compared to the Goodyear F1 Supersports I had to replace (due to a puncture and lack of availablity not due to them being worn) with the Bridgestones, the Bridgestones oddly feel more compliant and less firm ride wise, yet turn in a touch more quickly and feel more like they're connecting to the road rather than rolling "over" it (if that makes any sense).

The transmission was also very good and the cabin a nice place to be. The car looks amazing, but that ride! Even on the excellent surface of the M5 I might as well have been driving on cobbles! I thought this could be a special and more understated Italian supercar that would be more usable in everyday life… I still love it though, I spent some time looking at one up close this week and it is stunning. I applaud them for making a proper halo car. Can’t wait to see the new GT

    When Maserati showed the mule of MC20 I thought it was a mess. Then they showed the real car, and it was drop-dead gorgeous. And then I saw one in the flesh when I did a walkaround 'review' of it. My God I love the thing even in the rather sombre shade of Nero Enigma. And I actually quite like the interior. To me it feels like a much better built than any previous Maserati (though my experience was only the GranTurismo S). About the weight, yes Maserati claimed it's light because 'all of the carbon'. Yeaaaaa... but the carbon on the door was forged carbon. Which is not that light. And the door itself is pretty heavy. So I'm not surprised when EVO quoted a 1700kg weight figure for the MC20. I'd go for Rosso Vincente, Giallo Genio or Blu Infinito if I were to buy one. Was thinking about FuoriSerie colour like Hyper Green or Blu Corse but the price was horrifying. Not that I can ever buy one, though. Can't even afford BBR's 1/64 model of this.

    It’s not because of forged carbon is wrong, Maserati explained to EVO that they had to make the monocoque excessively rigid and that massive since the full EV version of the mc20 is coming using the 500kg battery pack, so the body should be fine carrying it without flexes and safety wise. The structure for ICE and EV variants is the same so it came that heavy

    Hi James, the Italian scales and your 8 stone 😂, its interesting that this car won Evo's super car segment. It's great to see Maserati back with something that looks good, but it just sounds muted and that options list, it would be like buying 2 cars after you ticked all the options you would probably want on a car like this. It's a shame about the ride quality which I don't remember evo complaining about but maybe they did and I just missed it. Anyway great looking car, should make a better noise.

They just can’t lie all, it’s impossible, the US reviews also call it very comfortable. Maybe it’s just a case with this exact car, something is wrong here.

    I can Drive my MC20 is Phoenix AZ valley 70% of the time on Corsa Medium setting, 25% in Corsa Hard setting, and 5% i Sport Soft if the roads are real bad. Of course there is the matter of knowing when to not try to put the power down when it is bumpier but that is part of the fun. But tire contact quickly adjusts and hunkers down after some slip. I test drove the Ferrari GTB 296 and the ride is more compliant. But I have seen it bottom out on fast smooth mountain roads at high speed (SMOKING TIRE-Matt kept silent in this one). The feeling I get in the MC20 is more special. I feel I am sitting down in the car rather than on top of it in as in the 296. And the doors. Forget about how they open. By comparison, the Ferrari doors have a cheap light feel to them as they open and shut. The trick to shutting them is to add down force towards the tail end of the down stroke. Simple as that.There is just more car including weight with the MC20. Maybe so because the shared architecture with the e model has to be beefier but I feel more substance and impact safety verses the 296. And a lot of the weight to include chassis and doors, aluminum sub-frames and attaching double wish bone suspension contributes to its special sports/race ride and stability, though not perfectly executed, is nevertheless notably present: The turn in is the quickest and most confident of all cars owned: Porsche 718 Spyder, 991.2 GTS, Lotus Evora 400. It is the first time that I have felt that there is no understeer or front end wash out in quick aggressive turns. The car's grip does adjust to the road as one continues pushing, so the limits are much higher than they first appear. Overall the MC20 feels more like a man's machine and less cream puffy. Also, it is refreshing to have a dual clutch (especially in Corsa mode) that shifts sportily reminiscent of a single clutch.

    A very pretty one, but the interiors should be more special (especially for that price). Designers and builders should discover the importance of interior design and aesthetics: in the end it's the place where the owners stay when they are driving the car... I find there is a lot of improvement available in that area in terms of materials, shapes, styles, colours, textures... but a very few ones seem to notice that. 🤔

    It is absurd how would they save $50 on UI performance on cars to give costumers of a $300K car sluggish touch controls. Even Chinese some what cheap head units are very responsive these days. Some people say it doesn't matter, but it gets very annoying when you have to wait to give it the next swipe if you actually use the car. If it is just another car in your collection and you use it a few times a year ok, for everyone else it is not ok. And no one would accept this on a daily driver. Don't agree with me, just look at the jump in performance on cheap cars, they had to make it more responsive because people were using only the smartphone connected to the Bluetooth because it was so crappy. Now, some are even talking about built-in google services and no Android Auto and stuff like that because performance allowed it to evolve. Personally I don't like the idea, but it makes the point.
