Great Selby with 5 frames in a row but just 1 mistake and Brecel got the last 2 frames and won the championship. That sais a lot about Luca Brecel in this tournament. Well deserved.

He, was the best thing on TV, KZread or anywhere, all week. He plays snooker like it’s pool. Absolutely brilliant to watch, and truly emotional that he won 😀

I knew Luca was very good, I never realised he was *this* good. Considering what he'd went through in the evening session with Selby winning 5 straight and missing so many long shots by such a distance, the way he constructed this break was absolutely superb. An absolute pleasure to watch, not just in the final but throughout the whole tournament, and I'm over the moon he won.

An unbelievable achievement by Luca Brecel! For sure this will put Belgium on the snooker map forever 🇧🇪 Who ever would have thought this was the outcome when he had never won the first round match, up against Ronnie, 14-5 down against Si and had Mark Selby coming back with the 147!

which Davis? I remember watching Joe on our black and white TV. Those days snooker was much harder. The cloth had a nap you had to allow for on everu shot and Joe still made 147 breaks.

Huge congrats to Luca! He had what was probably the toughest draw in this tournament. He almost lost to Ricky Walden in the first round. Then he had to play Mark Williams and Ronnie O'Sullivan in the next. He then mounted a phenomenal comeback in the semifinal and withstood the pressure of Selby throwing everything he had at him. This was hands down one of the greatest performances I've seen at the Crucible! Cheers to the new world champ! Well deserved!

Thought he would do it after getting to 15 but he made some uncharacteristic mistakes in the next frame.

Perfect frame really. Wins the safety battle, forces the mistake and then clears the reds for a century.

The best run ever to winning a world championship bar none. Never won a match before at Crucible, produces two of the best comebacks ever vs Ronnie, Si. And then outlasts probably the strongest player ever mentally in a best of 35 unreal. I'm so happy for Luca.

If you only watch the sport a Belgian is wc in you miss a lot :) so glad Luca finaly did it

I'm an English man, and even I was supporting Brecel. Selby is great, but Brecel deserved his term as World Champion. I look forward to seeing him more in the future.

Thanks, I was wondering this, as billiard balls are Belgian too. They are made by Carto Mundo in Turnhout, who make official bridge cards as well

Congratulations Luca 🎉outstanding performance what a player fully deserves this championship I think the way snooker has been play over the years has definitely change with the new player coming through the ranks fully committed to playing their shots and not to be drawn out over long safety play some of the shots he play simply memorising well done.

Amazing final and Brecel was right, if he didn't take that winning frame it looked like Selby the master at grinding games out would have won. Selby played brilliant so that tells you just how good Brecel played and what nerve he had to stay calm when it mattered most. Selby will be back, he can get to seven world titles, he's got the perfect game for the crucible a worthy finalist and so gracious in defeat.

Great stuff from Luca on the tournament. The man who beats Ronnie wins. I feel for Selby for whatever is going on in his personal life, but i never liked him as a snooker player. I'm tired of watching him trying to win with his C game. Snooker won, Luca was amazing to watch, reminds me of Judd and Ronnie. I hope this is his entrance to a long lived form on a big stage.

Agreed. I’d say 90% of the snooker world would concur. For the good of the game, we can’t watch a Peter Ebdon clone win yet another world title boring the pants off the paying public.(imagine it! If he’d have won this match that would put him on 5 titles for Christ sake!). Selby is a great match player yes, but his game relies on his strong mentality rather than flair, break building and aggression. Luca is in the mould of the all time aggressive greats and will inspire far more youngsters to pick up a cue than the bore from Leicester.

@@danielc7131 100%. When Selby is on his A game he is good to watch. But man oh man that is not that often. The amount of matches he won with his C or even D game is staggering. Imagine everyone playing like him. We would have 2 hour frames, waiting for a player to take a risky shot, and every player coming back to chase 4 snookers. Oh boy if he gets to the viewers like this, imagine what this does to the other player. No wonder Ronnie calls him the torturer. Him having more titles than John Higgins would be a blasphemy, so its good he lost for the sport. And i wish all the best for Luca, even though he beat my all time favourite Ronnie, i wasn't mad at all.

Selby seems like a nice chap, but 'Jester' has to be one of the least appropriate monikers for a snooker player ever surely. The way he's always slowing the pace down to a crawl and making it attritional is excrutiating. NOBODY would watch Snooker if all the players were like that. Well done to Brecel for putting reds up at baulk to spoil the spoiling!

@@charliehmi76 yeah, I’d agree with this. Off the table, Selby seems to be genuine, respectful and well liked amongst his peers and the pundits. As you say, it’s just the moment he gets near the table is when it turns into a snoozefest and if every professional played this way, the viewership and sponsors would disappear down the toilet.

Brilliant delighted for Luca the champ.

Respect for Selby, dunno if it's his 1985 Steve Davis warming to the world by appearing fully human moment, but he made for an excellent final.
