Joe Wells is a practising Catholic who believes that his work as a shepherd gives him something of a window into the divine, with each day exposing him to cycles of life and death. But although he finds a meaningful resonance between his job and his faith, the day-to-day realities of his all-consuming work are unromantic at best and brutal at worst, leading him to conclude: ‘It's a world you manipulate but you don't control.’ The US filmmaker Vern Moen’s The Shepherd profiles Wells as he tends to his sheep in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. With Wells himself providing a rustic violin score, the sparse and poignant short captures how this millennia-old line of work quietly endures, in many ways unchanged, even in the most industrialised countries.

Reminded me so much of why were called the sheep and Gods the shepherd. We are always doing dumb stuff, trying to run away,getting lost, and yet the shepherd always goes for that 1 lost sheep that strayed away❤️♥️

What a beautiful documentary. God reminded me of His love for me as his own. He’s constantly thinking about me. He follows me and takes care of me all the time. He can take it when I’m having a bad day or throw a tantrum. He goes through hard times with me. He feels sad for me when things are hard. He is happy when I’m happy. His love goes deep❤️ love this “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. This guy is living life. Humans aren’t meant for modern city/suburban life, why do u think so many ppl have mental health issues. But this guy, he’s living life, actually living life.
I love documentaries with people having such vocations

The Lord is my shepherd... 2:57 "A world you manipulate, but no control over" is such a great way to put into perspective of the way God works. So many think nothing can happen without God's permission but that's not correct because the word says, "God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3-9.

@@joaquing7003 only 6 dairy sheep 😂 i call it nomadic subsistence dairy shepherding. I “guerrilla-graze” my dairy sheep in vacant lots, fields, orchards etc turning whats already there instantly and consistently into milk..then i turn it into cheese!

Nice doc but I really think the amount of religious relations in these comments affect it because religion shouldn’t be brought into these comments just respect for this man’s work and this documentary
