I wished I’d had this book earlier in life but I lucked out and managed to pull it together in the last inning(everything completed by late 30’s) I had awful parents and home life, high-school drop out/GED to military service etc… Eventually got my nursing degree, went on to become a nurse anesthetist several years later and now working towards a pharmacology doctorate. However none of this would have happened had I not had the mentor(s)who told me what I needed to hear, as in first lesson you need to learn is STFU and listen! Only then does the learning begin. Forever Thank you Chief Master Sergeant Brown (RIP) old friend and Col Hemming, these two men were/are real fathers to me, only the universe could conspire to put two great men of the highest caliber in my presence even as the lowly ranked pion I was in my military days. I highly recommend this book for anyone overcoming a personal struggle with aspects of academia you love but are too fearful to break into.

Good summary. I find it kind of disappointing that the book doesn’t cover math learning itself in much detail. Math is a very specific and almost universally challenging subject to learn. Im curious why that’s the case and how learning this specific subject could be made easier. I was hoping for a book that would describe a more targeted process for learning math not just practices around knowledge acquisition in general. Anyways as someone who has had deep challenges with learning maths and is quite comfortable self learning non math subjects I’ve always been curious why math was so uniquely challenging to me and so many other people.

I always struggled with university math and no learning guru on KZread speaks about learning math. but the approaches in a mind for numbers helped me immediately. All I need was a change of perspective on how to study math. her book helped me so much with so little content of her book, its crazy. There is nothing more you need to know. try to solve a problem without the text book. if yiu can't, check the solution. try again a little bit further, tomorrow. if you get a concept, menorize it and link it with new problems and concepts. Math seems to live by combining concepts together, creating new concepts and relationships. this is it. the more math patterns you know, the better. Chunking is an amazing tool. stop worrying about how to learn math, start putting the concepts in the book into practice. it helped me so much
