I quit drinking 35 years ago. I had a problem with PTSD and drinking didn't help much either. Our son is very proud of me.

When I came back from the service after 20yrs I picked up drinking. My wife left me because of my drinking. I have suffered more since I stopped because I think of her every day. I also have a daughter who will not have a thing to do with me. I am 94 and only ask God to forgive me. Man also cry. Jasper

It takes incredible courage to change addictive n destructive behavior whithin ones self, seeking help from God and a healthy support structure. Wheather it is AA, Church etc..We parallel in many ways brother veteran. Proud of your accomplishments trying and doing the right things for the right reasons for those loved ones, friends, acquaintances around you! The worst enemy i have ever fought with is myself internally. Sobriety is a selfless act, but involving much soul searching. Keep paying it Forward bro. Semper Fi

I seem to "live in" Vietnam every single day of my life after leaving Nam. Nam seems to never go away. However, the nightmares of having to go back have mostly gone away and have been replaced by constant dreams of selling cars since I retired afterr 40+ Years in the business . It was a crucial business and hard for every one who got into it to survive it. It was actually more stressfull than being in Nam. Survivng the car business seemed to end up being my therapy for giving up night-time Nam Nightmares. Still get occupied with the Flashbacks of being there during waking hours though, as the War has never ended for me.

Sir, I just want to say that it took courage for you to step up to the plate in seeking a change to be a better person and a parent to your daughter. Kids have a way of causing people to become better and to allow the future generation to prosper better than we had. Back in my days in the Corps I attended a course (AMENDS) for using physical force against one's partner. I learned that it doesn't matter who threw the first punch, it matters that one separate themselves in the heat of the moment by leaving the environment such as leaving the house so that you can get your head together. That course was a life saver in that I have never used physical force against my wife whom I am married to at this time. Semper Fi and may the Lord continue to bless you and your family.
