A March of loss - Finding Ruth McCoy Farley -Elk Creek West Virginia
In this video we search for Hatfield and McCoy feud patriarch, Randall McCoy's little sister Ruth (Reece) McCoy Farley, who died 5 days after her young daughter Minnie and is buried in Curry cemetery in Elk Creek, West Virginia. We also try and find the daughter Minnie and Ruth's husband William Anse Farley, who was a Civil war Logan wildcat. Strangely, they all died in March.

I believe it said "parturition" which means giving birth. This is a great story. Leo, you are a great story teller and Heather, you do amazing background checking and story telling as well! Great job and thanks for taking us along.

@@Everett-eh4nn Ok I just saw that story. It was sad. I thought it was so sweet that they placed a painted rock next to her in honor of him. ❤️
I wish I could live in the country like that. My family is from West Virginia
Thank you Heather and Leo for the documentation of these lost cemeteries. God Bless❤

Leo and Heather it's so great of you to go thru these old cematarries and document them I'm sure there are families being reconnected because of the hard work you put in.God bless you both

Wow, thank you
Leo you are an amazing historian. Your story telling abilities are amazing! This one touched my heart for sure!
Thank Leo and Heather for your time and effort to make known these lost people. There is a saying in genealogy research: You dye two times. 1st on day you pass on and 2nd when people stop saying your name. Every time you go looking for a lost person they live again. Love to you both dear cousins stay safe out there. ❤❤
I'm really fascinated by this cemetery for some reason. I think its beautiful like it is. I'm looking forward to the video of the whole place. I like when you put the pictures and some of the history about the people there. I'm happy I found your channel and look forward to all your videos.
Thank you Leo and Heather you are special folks. Bless you
Nice video, Leo. Interesting story, nice research, Heather. I bet your right, Leo. Back in the day I bet that was a very pretty place. I can just imagine what that church looked like on Sunday, with all the people coming in there on wagons from all around the area. I really appreciate all that ya'll do bringing these stories to us. God bless ya'll for what you do. Ya'll stay safe out on the road . Hope ya'll have a nice Easter .
Leo,Ive been a FAG Volunteer for many years and I ❤ fulfilling the photo requests. I do spiffy up the grave plots / stones before I take that most important photo! Thanks to you and Heather for all you do! (I personally know the amount of work that goes into SOME of what y'all do.❤)
What a wonderful sight to behold Leo! West Virginia, my native state. A beautiful state with all of the grand mountains, beautiful forests, and lakes. You and Heather are doing such a great job with your research. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them particularly the cemeteries. I chuckle every time I have watched you climb up a mountain or walk up 100 steps to a cemetery. This sounds like another interesting cemetery. I was in Delbarton many, many years ago, but didn't go on to Elk Creek. WV is known for its country churches surrounded by tombstones. People who live in the midwest and west have no clue about a "holler." I had someone on another channel to ask me "What is a holler?" I shared the same information with that viewer as you just mentioned, just different words. Oh, I am glad that you found the cemetery. I wonder if people are still worshipping in that beautiful old church. Thank you Leo and Heather for another great historic adventure.
❤️🙏🌟.. HAVE A BLESSED EASTER HEATHER & LEO..🌟🙏❤️
Leo, we visited daddy’s people on Elk Creek and a couple of his mining friends back in the 1960’s. We were always fed good suppers ❤❤❤
Your stories and videos are better than tv❤️❤️❤️
Another beautiful video...thanks Leo and Heather. We need to get this channel to over 100K soon.

Thank you for looking through everyone in these cemeteries and documenting them. I had different sides of the family settle in Lee county Virginia and my line moved on to the west. But I’m sure their family members are still buried there. You have such an interesting channel. Thanks again!
Such beautiful country -
Best couple for sure. ❤
Beautiful area!
Love your videos, I truly miss be able to visit cemeteries. Doing family history I need many cemeteries in So Illinois Taylor’s side
Whoaaaa!!! Ty so much! Awesome research & vid!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for sharing this story. Minnie's death was due to Parturitions, meaning to give birth to an offspring.
I grew up there
I spent alot of my early years in elizabeth city nc and never been in a holler
Thank You Leo for showing us these beautiful Cemetaries and giving us the history. I'm from Central Montana and we have a really neat Cemetary up in the mountains that I am going to head up to (once the snow is gone) and take pics for Find a Grave. I would not have thought of it until your video, I appreciate it! It's a really neat old Cemetary with beautiful headstones. Check out the Neihart Cemetary in Cascade County, Montana, if you have the time.
I've seen many things but I have never seen a horse in a carport in the front yard of someone's home until today. Now I can say I have seen that. Very crazy poor horse deserves better. I didn't see any grass in the tiny paddock. You need minimally 1 acre of pasture per horse. Poor thing

He had a whole fenced mountainside behind the house. I think he just has access to the front yard too, and prefers being there.

Hello Leo and Heather
I would hope that someone or a small group of people in the church or community would clean up the tombstones. Some of them look very sad.
I feel like I should know your last name Leo. I can't remember who's cemetery that is but that church there has played a part in the lives of my family.the last time I was in it it was for the funeral of my uncle cefford 😢 your videos are awesome. It's good to see someone telling all this history.
Margaret "Peggy" Taylor is the sister of Jane "Jenny" Taylor who was the wife of John "The Baptist" Ferrell. John Ferrell was the father of Nancy Vance Hatfield and James Vance "Bad Jim" Nancy and James Vance mother was Elizabeth Vance.
Sad to see Ruth McCoy no headstone
Nice little town, beautiful country. Interesting church and graveyard. I am a little surprised that Ruth's grave does not have a marker, whereas Mimmie's grave does have a headstone, and they died five days apart? Thank you very much Leo, for taking the time to document all those headstones 🪦 Thank you also, for another great video. You and Heather have a great day. 😊

Hello there!
I'm related to the Farleys
I believe Minnie's cause of death was parturition - which is childbirth I tried to find other forms of this word thinking we might get more details but no luck. Some part of childbirth killed her. What part your guess is as good as mine. Excellent very interesting video. Good work Leo & Heather
I think it says peritonitis its where the thin tissue that lines the abdomen becomes inflamed usely caused from a burst appendix or infected gallbladder

Another great job Leo.

Ruth dies her husband stuffs her in a grave with no marker than married someone else three months later. Real nice guy
Cause of Death looks like Parturitions. Which is basically during child birth. It's really hard to tell.
Looks like Minnie may have died from parturitions which is childbirth possibly twins since it's plural
The word is Parturition, which means she was either too young when giving birth or just dying during childbirth
Church in the holler but the grave yard is really big?
Recently I saw a grave of kenneth Lester. Any thing you can tell me about him I would greatly appreciate. I think he might be some of my relative. I thank you in advance. Love you.re videos,
Minnie White died in childbirth 😢
The other possibility is for death is the medical term for mumps
Was all the Hatfield and McCoy’s family members involved in the fight (parents , siblings, nephews etc.) or just Devil Antes and Randall’s clan?

Not all. Some were relatives and friends.
You know what Leo you got a seriously good voice. If I was you I would be reading civil war novels etc online. I think you can make a good living as an orator dude especially as if you were reading Southern history specifically confederate civil war. You got the perfect accent for it. I think you can make a good living doing documentaries for History channel. Perfect soothing voice and I'm not kissing your ass . I'm just sayin. I'll leave you alone. Say hi to the boss.
