A Magical Movie!! | Matilda Reaction | FIRST TIME WATCHING!

Ойын-сауық

Matilda Reaction is today's video! Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Matilda for the first time today!
This film adaptation of a Roald Dahl work tells the story of Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson), a gifted girl forced to put up with a crude, distant father (Danny DeVito) and mother (Rhea Perlman). Worse, Agatha Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), the evil principal at Matilda's school, is a terrifyingly strict bully. However, when Matilda realizes she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to defend her friends from Trunchbull's wrath and fight back against her unkind parents.

There’s a very touching story that revolves around this movie. Mara Wilson, the actress that played Matilda, was filming this while her mother was dying of cancer. When the movie was finished but hadn’t been released yet, they found out her mom likely wouldn’t make it to the release. So Danny Devito arranged for her to see the movie in the hospital. She got to see her daughters movie before she passed on.

As some of y’all already know, On March 10, 1995, Mara Wilson’s mother, Suzie Wilson, was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer during filming. Mara revealed that Danny DeVito and his wife Rhea (Who played Matilda’s parents in the movie) would often look after her when her mother was in the hospital. Sadly Suzie later died on April 26, 1996, four months before the film’s theatrical release. Danny revealed that prior to her death, he had shown her the final edit of the movie so that she was able to see Mara’s performance in the movie. The finished film was dedicated to her memory. Also at 2:57 the song Send Me on my Way came out in 1994.

12:44 - 13:34 Something to note is Hortensia's backstory cut out from the movie. In the book, the girl has some huge nerve, but is also a survivor. She was sent six times to The Chokey, in her FIRST TERM. Twice for a whole day and the other times for two hours each. The first time was because she decided to play a prank on the Trunchbull (I mean, who wouldn't. I would want to put some dirt on that headmistress). She poured syrup on to the seat of the chair the Trunchbull was going to sit on at prayers. As Hortensia described it best: "When she lowered herself into the chair, there was a loud squelching noise, and it was beautiful. And when she jumped up again, the chair sort of stuck to the seat of those awful green breeches she wears and came up with her for a few seconds until the thick syrup slowly came unstuck. Then she clasped her hands to the seat of her breeches and both hands got covered in the muck. You should have heard her bellow." But some kid snuck on Hortensia, saw what she did, and ratted her out (She knocked his teeth out later on.), and the Trunchbull sent her to the Chokey for a whole day. The second time she played another prank where she snuck into the Trunchbull's room, while she was out teaching a class. Hortensia searched through her drawers where she kept all her gym underwear, and poured a load of inching-powder, called The Skin Scorcher, on every pair the Trunchbull had. And so when the Trunchbull wore them for gym at school, she started scratching like crazy, only for the scratching to get even worse: "She must have thought she had a wasp nest down there. And then, right in the middle of the Lord's Prayer, she leapt up and grabbed her bottom and rushed out of the room." Hortensia felt she wouldn't be caught, but even then, the Trunchbull gave her a day in the Chokey anyway. Mainly because of the Trunchbull's "nasty habit of guessing". Hortensia was mainly accused because of the syrup prank, despite no proof. And her trip to the Chokey was even worst than before since she suffered so many cuts from the broken glass and nails. Being at that school is basically war, when you think about it.

Miss Honeys house is very different from the book. The main difference being that there is literally nothing in there besides a small camping stove, and two wooden boxes. Another big difference from the book: at the end of the book, Matilda actually does lose her abilities. As it turned out, she was only able to do so because she wasn't being academically challenged in Miss Honeys class, so her brain had to make up for it somehow. But that all stopped once she was transferred to a higher, more appropriate grade, because now for the first time in her life, she's being actively challenged, instead of having her smarts go to waste.

Sad fact about this film: Durning filming, Mara Wilson's (Matilda) mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and unfortunately passed away 4 months before the films release. Danny Devito, who was the films director had shown Mara's mother the final cut of the movie to show her daughters performance. Danny and his at the time wife Rhea Pearlman (Matilda's mother) had both been looking after Mara durning filming and after. Making sure she had fun and enjoyed filming.

This movie was always so special to me. It's nostalgic, it's well played out, it's got a great story, and all the actors played their parts extremely well and they all had good chemistry! It's everything I could want in a movie! What's also so incredibly bittersweet is that Danny DeVito was so nurturing towards Mara Wilson (Matilda) that he acted as a sort of father figure while her mother was sick and even arranged to have her mother be able to get a special viewing of the movie before she unfortunately passed away before the movie was fully released. He did it all in this movie. He starred in it, he narrated it, he directed it, he produced it and he cared for Mara! I just love this movie so much and I'm so glad it's getting the recognition it deserves! So glad you reacted to it!

Danny went beyond Saint for Mara while making this. During the kitchen scene, Mara was really nervous about getting on that table and dancing. So Danny had the entire cast and crew dance along with her behind the camera. And when it was confirmed Mara's mother wasn't going to make it in time for the film to be fully produced, Danny had them put everything they had together and play it at the hospital so she could see her little girl in action. The world needs at least a couple million more people like Danny Devito in it and that's the truth.

I got that, but I wonder what motivated Trunchbull to kill him. We need a prequel on Trunchbull to understand her character on a deeper level. Was Trunchbull abused as a child, did she have a envy of her sister, Miss Honey's mother, and fell in love with Muss Honey's dad but he wasn't interested in her so she killed him out of revenge. So many possibilities.

In the book, Matilda lost her powers in the end because she's in a class for advanced kids and has to concentrate more. Miss Honey's poverty is worse in the book because if I remember well, she doesn't even have a table and chairs. Fun fact : the man in the painting is in fact Roald Dalh, the author of the book

First off: at the time they filmed this, they actually were husband and wife. So what they did for the hat scene was put on a harness under the suit he's wearing, that connects to the hat, so when she tries to pull it off, he's holding it on with his whole body. So when you see her cutting the hat off in the next scene, she's actually cutting the wires from the harness off of the hat. The shot of the mom backflipping off the table wasn't her, it was a stunt double. And as for the cream tarts, what they did was set up miniature catapult seesaws, put a tart on one end on them, and essentially send them flying.

Pam Ferris (Miss Trunchbull) would actually remain in-character around the child actors so that their fear of her would be genuine. That's dedication to the craft, though kinda sad when you think about it.

This is my favorite movie because like Matilda, I find comfort in books too😊Also, this film has some similarities to Carrie, where a girl who’s bullied also gets telekinetic powers. But, unlike that movie where people died, this is more family friendly in some ways😊

Also Carrie is a teenager who's abused constantly no matter where she is. The reason she was even at prom was because one of her classmates felt guilty and wanted her boyfriend to ask Carrie to make up for it. Roald Dahl may have been inspired since the book came out in the late 80s and Carrie came out in 1974, with three movie adaptations and a musical (I love the villain song The World According to Chris, about the bully and why she thinks it's unfair to punish her for bullying Carrie and other kids). The gym teacher in Carrie, though, does try to help her.

Good point. Why has no one read the books? This movie and the musical didn't take much if any inspiration from each other. The only thing I can think of is that the kids were more downtrodden in the movie and musical and fought harder in the book.
