I love how they grind their teeth when they happy and they do it so fast it makes their eyes bulge out. Haha. Imagine if humans did that when they are happy. Lol

Humans show their teeth to each other. In almost all other animal species, showing your teeth is a threat.

@@Frazzledragon rats don’t have lips so their teeth are always showing lmao, they don’t use that as a warning or threat. Them grinding their teeth means that they are comfortable and happy, it’s known as bruxxing, when they are REALLY happy, like the original comment says, they grind their teeth very fats which causes their eyes to bulge in and out of their head which is called boggling.

The thing is, they're very affectionate and intelligent pets, and you become attached all too easily because they have unique personalities. Just having them for a year before they pass away - usually from a tumour or cancer - can be devastating. I share the sentiment of the OP, wonderful creatures; tragically short life span.

This video is over 2 years old. And judging by the shade of some of their teeth, a few were already a year old. I dont think any of those rats are still alive :(

Maybe I should buy 2 rats when this 3rd hamster dies. It's like nothing pleases or calms him, and it frustrates me to bits. I have bought him a load of stuff, chew stuff, hideplaces, tunnels, a big Wheel... The hamie acts totally ADHD.... Now in the morning at 9 am he is insane running in his wheel and wants to come out of the box. I tickled him and stuff to make it less exciting for him to seek my attention.. He hated it, but he is still on top of his house looking at me, making noding movement with his head to say he want to play. Not sure if I should have him put down, feel like such a bad mom :( :(

Mice are very skittish creatures, and not as intelligent as rats, making it more difficult to handle them. If you handle them a lot from a very young age, they can learn to relax when held, but otherwise yeah, you're expecting to be bitten.

PROAMP TIK fancy rats don't often bite. You have to be abusing them or stressing them out beyond belief to encourage a bite from them. I had a sweet baby boy once who I stepped on his tail during free roam after I had a sudden dizy spell.he screamed like hell but he didn't bite me. He wasn't mad ether, he just stayed away from my feet after. (His tail was fine & undamaged.) The only time I had seen someone bit was this awful person I used to know. She was tellin em their cute & put her nose up to them & the once I would have least expected bit her nose as hard as he could. The rats had witnessed her being mean to me. She was a manipulative friend, who always put me down,bullied, & would physically harass me. All my pets hated her. It made me think she also was mean to then when I wasn't around. I've seen her hit dogs & tell me how she's fantasised about stabbing her own two dogs. So I wouldn't be surprised.
