The first thing I learned about Koreans after interacting with them (I grew up around Korean-Australians so exposed quite young) is that they share a determination to give everything a try. Maybe that's why their country has grown so much in such a short space of time. Even if they didn't know a lot of English everyone here was determined to give it a go because it was the right thing to do. It's an impressive trait to have.

His English may be limited but he knows that for a kid being lost can be scary, even though Sean is being pretty chill about it, he could be trying to hide how freaked out he is. So the guy is using the English he does know to reassure him, using a soft tone and smiling. Very kind!

It's nice to see how kind they were to the boy. My 10 year old son got lost two weeks after we moved to Switzerland, on his way back from school swimming, since the idiot teacher just left him there, even though it was only his third day at school. It was cold and snowing, and he had no phone (since they weren't allowed at school). He roamed around for hours while trying to find his way home and cried almost to the whole time. Three different people approached him while he was sitting on a sidewalk, crying his eyes out. But when he told them he could not speak German, they seemed to get indifferent and just walked away. I still don't understand why nobody cared about helping a crying, lost, cold little boy. I am happy to see that Koreans are different.

The first time I realized that I can understand Japanese just from seeing people talk was when I watched a Japanese movie without a subtitle. I didn't even realize that I forgot to turn on the subtitle and went on watching it just like that. It felt weird because Japanese is a foreign language to me but I understood it like as if it was my native language.

But sadly, for me, it's a slow learning process as I dont have an environment that allows me to speak and talk in Korean as I am the only person in my family to learn a third language. For the Koreans, they actually have a decent environment for them to speak and talk in English especially in college! It's just that they have to muster the courage and try to practice new words every day.

I also watch this channel called ‘cream heroes’ it’s with 7 cats and the owner always speaks in Korean so I learn from there aswell. The only problem is, when I hear a word understand i know what it means but when I try to say a word it comes out wrong and then I get confused how to say it. ^ㅠㅅ ㅠ^

I am an American currently deployed in South Korea right now, and I will say whole heartedly that Koreans are so amazing when it comes to patience and helpfulness. There have been times where I have been lost in Daegu without a way back to base, and I remember being scared to ask for help and not sure how to approach without offending, but when I was looking around about to lose my mind thinking, I was going to be stuck there all night a family approached me. They comforted me and helped me get a cab back while also paying for it. I cried because of it and I remember the mom and grandmother soothing me. The embracing culture is amazing. There has not been one time where I was in need of help and did not receive it which was shocking to me. I also remember one day I was walking back to base after getting food when a drunk man started harassing me. At first, I thought he needed help because of the language barrier and him grabbing my arm I thought he was trying to get my attention until he started to pull me and yell, and since I'm in another country I was scared to push him away because I thought I would get in trouble for it. It wasn't even two seconds later a young couple came out of a store and helped me. The boyfriend pushed the dude off of me and the girlfriend hugged me while walking me back into the store. She translated everything the guy said and afterwards they walked me back to base. When I tell you I cried when I got back, I bawled. Scariest yet most heartwarming thing I have ever experienced so far. Goes to show, no matter where you are, there will always be someone watching out for you.

Honestly, Joshua Lee is husband goals. He was flamboyant with his shirt, fully wanting to be located for the child, waving dramatically, shaking the boys hand and being warm, being protective of the child, and asking the child to give him a new name. Stuff I’d like to see dad do with the boys if I were to ever get married ( kid’s dad)

People who tried hard to speak English just to help or entertain foreigners are quite heartwarming to me. Reminds me of a foreigner asking for directions back in the Philippines like 3-4 years ago, my English was really really bad so I was kind of nervous speaking to him. It was a relief that he understood my English and found the place he needs to go. I always think about this interaction once in a while, It is very embarrassing!
