Been in and out of competitive MTG since 2001. This is one of the best discussions on competitive I’ve ever watched. But the right way to do it is just play but admit you’re mistake and of some one points out a mistake , don’t take it as an insult. You can’t fix something if you don’t know it’s broken.

I’ve found way more community spirit playing 60 card formats than I ever have from commander. I love that everyone knows that we’re playing to win but people also are super eager to lend each other cards they’re missing or coach on how to make their decks better

I’m right with you Tori, approach every tournament with the “Nah, I’d win” attitude and you simply CAN NOT LOSE 💪🏽

Great video! Very interesting to hear the 4 of you talking about competitive ! I would be very interested to see you trying the "french commander" format one day, aka commander 1v1!

The most community I've found has been my lgs' sealed league - get to know the people pretty well when it's the same ones every week

There is a temperature check for a room I used to do in EDH tables. I'd say out loud "Commander is a format for people too stupid or too poor to play other formats" Casuals would frown, comp players would laugh, and I'd just go towards the laughs.

I do think CEDH is quite a controversial and contradictory format. EDH is social and casual then you are making a competitive serious version of what was designed to be casual. so right away it has that strange internal conflict. So it makes sense that it is a controversial format in the greater mtg community. I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily but you can't act like it's not a wolf in sheep's clothing. Combining hard to define social/political mechanics that are not enforced or written is a recipe for disaster. If you put that feature into any game that is not solely about experience and then make it competitive it's just bad news. The complex nuances of personality types, emotions, lying, manipulating people are not good for COMPETITIVE gaming. That's why EDH should just be casual in my humble opinion. But to each their own and hope you enjoy whatever mode ya play.

While cEDH has it's hurdles and conflicts, I feel that casual is even worse when it comes to those. Conventional logic in magic is to play the best cards that are legal, and try to play to win since winning is fun. Casual EDH is kinda like a roleplaying game, but there is no DM to say what you can or can't do, so people get angry when your story interrupts their story. CEDH doesnt have that problem, and we are there because we want our cool busted stuff to get prevented by our opponents cool busted stuff. We are not there to roleplay, we are there to enjoy more magic being played. People don't like when some people play Mana Crypt in their casual decks, because that's like having a jetback as your starting gear in dnd. In cEDH, we embrace our jetbacks and lightsabers and have our whacky little experience of powerful magic.
