A look at the new Nissan Townstar Electric van (the replacement for the E-NV200)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I have a look at the new 2023 Nissan Townstar EV. This all new electric van has a 45kWh battery pack with a WLTP range of 183 miles combined or 269 miles city. The new Townstar is a rebadged Renault Kangoo E-Tech and replaces the Nissan E-NV200 electric van, which has now ceased production. This new EV is also a Mercedes EQT and T-class. The model I look around and test drove is the Townstar L1 in Tekna Plus trim, which is the top of the range.

    Great video , with the Acenta model, the screen configuration remains the same. However, it's important to note that the acenta version doesn't come with its own integrated GPS navigation system. Instead, you can make use of CarPlay or Android Auto to utilize the screen as a satellite navigation tool. This feature allows you to seamlessly connect your mobile device and access navigation functions through the vehicle's display. - Love that digital drivers display in the Tekna+ ❤

    It's certainly much stiffer suspension that the ZE33, but I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable. I came away thinking that I would be quite happy to have one as my car. It was very nice and far more refined that a van traditionally would be.

    The Kangoo is a more comfortable with better suspension and seats. But has AC charging only so no good for long distance trips. If you charge from home and don't do long distances, then I'd much prefer the Kangoo.

    Yes, for a new 2023 model, it could do with having another 10kWh in the battery. But the Renault powertrain should be more efficient than the Stallantis models, so its likely to do a similar range.

    @@GoGreenAutos That's really sad. At 36 mpg you can drive 50,000 miles on that much petrol, the petrol version may do more than 36.... There's just no excuse for EVs to be more expensive than an ICE powered car, MG have shown us that with their pricing of the MG4 which is pitched in the middle of petrol burning Golf's, Focus and similar sized cars.

    I know there are specific use cases but I don't understand the lack of DC charging. Unless you are never going to sell it, I can't see the logic of not having it. It must affect the resale value.

  • @markreed9853

    @markreed9853

    If a company buys a load they will have a 3-phase AC at work they get 22Kw charging. The range may be good enough that they don't need to use public charging so no need to pay extra. It all comes down to cost, resale value is not a big consideration for most firms.

  • @GoGreenAutos

    @GoGreenAutos

    I suspect most vans do not use DC rapid charging anyway. They're purchased for a job, delivery round etc and the range will be enough for the daily use, so will never use DC charging anyway. A van buyer that drove more, will probably not be buying the electric version. So the lack of DC on the Visia models isn't an issue. Afterall, all Renault Kangoo ZE vans (until the 2023 model) has AC only charging. But yes you're right, the Visia models of the ENV200 (with AC only charging) are worth less used and many buy them without realising it has no DC charging. I hear from those (mostly independent dealers) frequently. But these new vans do have DC rapid charging on all models except the base Visia.

    @@GoGreenAutos I think people get the misperception that current electric vans are meant to replace EVERY use case with a van. I think electric vans are a different use case to cars as vehicle weight is more an issue due to load limits and charging requirements. I've driven vans for various jobs in the past and never driven more than 120 miles in a day BUT that doesn't mean every use case can be fulfilled with an electric van currently, it's just going to take a bit longer for us to get better more energy dense batteries, plus more rapid chargers installed ,to make every use case viable. They may even need to go hybrid first so we meet the 2035 deadline.
