"They have faith in their faith." Those are the words I've been looking for. For years, I've been trying to succinctly describe the flaw in Evangelical logic, and Spyridon here just summed it up perfectly.

Blessed father, during the recent lockdown and with the closing down of our Orthodox churches in the UK, the Grace of God, through your weekly sermons and homilies from years back, have rekindled my faith and kept me on the narrow road. Isolated physically as I am yet blessed to have your guidance from afar. I have recently read your book ‘Orthodoxy and the kingdom of satan’ which has further emboldened my faith and nurtures obedience to the Word of God. I pray Christ our Lord and Saviour to protect you and bless you abundantly with the gifts of His Grace, so that we may continue to receive your spiritual guidance, for the glory of our Lord’s Holy Name, now and forever, amen.

Thank you, Father. I'm new to Orthodoxy and a frequent worry of mine is if I'm doomed for Hell. I often have fits of despair, distress, worry, and hopelessness. I know I sin, I know I mess up, I know I'm not perfect, but I make an effort to repent for my sins. We must all be wary of our sins and repent for them, but we can't let despair and dread consume us. God's love and mercy is infinite and eternal. And while none of us are 100% certain of where we'll end up after death, we need to follow Christ and keep faith he will save us. Uncertainty often can lead to confusion and doubt, but we must let hope, peace, and love triumph in the end. This is something I think we should all remember, especially in these trying times. I'm so grateful that God has blessed us with your wisdom and compassion, Father. God bless you and please pray for all of us.

If you're a Reformed Protestant your faith is based on achieving some kind of certainty from mental cogitation and endless hours of expository preaching to gains some level of certainty about your faith. They say it's not about the quantity of your faith but the quality of your faith. They tell you in Protestant churches that the smallest mustard seed faith will save you. It's all some kind of mental effort. On the Orthodox side, they tell you that faith is not in the mind but in the heart. Because of the fall of Adam, the mind and heart are out of balance. The heart is the spiritual organ that God gave us to know Him directly. My biggest struggle with this subject is that it all seems to be very subjective. Epistemic certainty is a problem that all people of faith struggle with. Maybe I need to become a monk.

It was the Centurion story that led me to Orthodoxy because the greatest faith is one that recognizes authority, which the Orthodox Church has I found out. This can also be a trap if your faith is in the Church or a leader in the church, etc, and not in God, the highest authority.

  • @shiro-md5yo

Yes, but be careful. Someone who is not Orthodox can say "faith in only God, and not Jesus Christ", "faith in only God and you don't have to be Orthodox", or "faith in only God and we need not go to church", and so on.

But that’s the same reasoning Protestants use when deciding against the Orthodox Church. They believe that the Orthodox Church is a trap that they trust in the words of men like the patriarchs and bishops and put as much faith in ecumenical councils as they do in God and Jesus. While the Protestants want to put there faith on God And Jesus and the Holy Spirit alone. Using the God inspired Bible as a guideline and template of God.

  • @verntweld51

    @verntweld51

Rusty Shackelford oh I see I was being confusing. So the recognition of authority given by God to the Orthodox Church which I recognize and yes it is made up of fallible people but they have authority from God who we are trusting. The Centurion recognized that the one who speaks for authority has the same power as the one in charge and God is in charge and apostolic succession gives Orthodox the authority which I was brought to see and try to share. Still as spread out as the Churches are and still in alliance with Catholics through basic Trinitarian dogma with the Pope recognized as a Bishop’s authority, it is still authority and should not be compared to Joe Shmoes startup church just because he has a great band and some wisdom books like where I was at.

Read church history... Till you reach the Great Schism.. & see for yourself where, unfortunately, the Roman Catholic Church headed.. it reached the point of medieval crusades & wars from their part There were 5 churches.. 5 patriarchates: church of Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem & Rome.. Rome left the 4 other churches which are now the Orthodox ones.. Roman Catholics: papal supremacy & things as such, it's the fruit of pride 💔 So do not be surprised when you see people following error to its end.. St Gregory the great, Patriarch of Rome (before the Schism) 590-604 AD said,: "Whoever calls himself universal bishop or desires this title is, by his pride, the precursor to the anti-Christ, because he thus attempts to raise himself above the others. The error into which he falls springs from pride equal to that of anti-Christ; for as that wicked one wished to be regarded as exalted above other men, like a god, so likewise whoever calls himself sole bishop exalteth himself above others." The Orthodox Church is the persecuted church.. if you read the history of the martyrs.. especially of Egypt (the copts) But if you aren't into reading, then you might want to watch: kzread.info/head/PLY5w4erhY94bJiTEZM3w1MqogOXwCf9sJ Pinterest also is a great & fun starter for Orthodox teachings & church history.. We do agree with you that pope Francis, attempting to unite all religions into a "new era" (new age🤦) which in reality pioneers that of the anti-Christ.. paving the way for the anti-Christ.. & If you, though lovingly, assumed there to be secret alleged cults within ALL & ANY high church (even the humble Orthodox Church, God forbid!😅) Then how can we, sadly telling you, justify this? →kzread.info/dash/bejne/iZqMz6akgcyrYtI.html & This → kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2yKpNacoZuvpLQ.html Together with this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6p5kquMotO7eLg.html ? Thanks for the info I already know about them, I was referring to our orthodox leaders in our faith.... They treat our church as a business, for example.... Our church leaders require us to have a membership and to pay it yearly to be allowed to hear our church service, baptisms, weddings Sunday schools, so...if poor families can't afford these dues? Then what? They're denied bc of that reason?, I have experienced it my self when my kids were young didn't have much money at the time and took my kids to Sunday school then I was called out in front of other parents for not having a membership for my kids to continue I was embarrassed and at the same time very disappointed on how our church is run like a business... And having priest in our church getting payed $100k and other priest $200k a year? And we have poor families that live with basic needs and if that......very disappointed and so on, I hope God forgives me for saying this but we see it all the time

Dear brother in Christ, as father Spyridon reminds us today through this sermon, let us have faith and obedience in our Lord Jesus Christ; that is my duty as a Christian. Through such faith, as blessed father said, the Holy Spirit will descend and transform our lives, and make us worthy of heaven, to paraphrase today’s sermon. I, similarly to you, have wondered recently, saying ‘what happened to my Bishops, where is my priest, what is the clergy up to during these evil times? ‘ Father Peter Heers (Orthodox) has touched on this question together with other monks from Mt Athos, here on KZread. Also if you can obtain Father Spyridon Bailey’s book (Amazon) ‘Orthodoxy and the Kingdom of Satan’ you will understand like I did where we need to be today as a Church and as a Society. Hence the importance of true faith! Obedience to the Word of God. We are all sinners, hence I decided to stop worrying about the clergy - I decided to pray for them day and night, as their faith depends upon my humble prayers. By the way, I’m not here to advertise for father Spyridon, as I do not know him in person, only through prayer. Through his sermons, through my repentance and through the Grace of God I’m becoming a disciple of Christ. What other fellow Christians do - that’s in the hands of Christ. For the moment, Christ has given me father Spyridon, through KZread, for my salvation. Blessed be the name of the Lord for such gifts! May the blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ be upon you and on all your loved ones.

James 2:26 say faith without works is death? To me that would imply that faith is living and that always seem to contradict what the evangelical/Protestant type Christianity teaches on faith which only requires to only blindly believe in Jesus, with reaffirmation of it to a contemporary Christian pop/rock beat. So I’ve in agreement with a living faith. However it seems like a paradox that a kind and loving God would permit or allow such rampant evil to occur. Maybe God is not so kind and loving? Modern Christianity often portrayed as God to be all good with Satan as all evil - and a total black and White dichotomy with no shades of gray.

What does he mean? That God is in control of our sorrow? I keep hearing this and I used to believe it to an extent but I don't understand how God is sending us sorrow. We've been reconciled to God through Christ. Every good and perfect gift comes from the father of lights. He sent His Holy Spirit to teach us. The enemy is the one who comes but to steal kill and destroy. God doesn't tempt any man with evil. So how is God in control or permissive of our sorrows?

I'm in the most dreadful place. I have no wish to judge as I am not worthy. However, I must judge for us in the west, the OCA and ROCOR both have now surrendered and are conducting our worship services according to the dictates of a godless government. Only a certain number of people may attend. Names will be taken (for contact tracing). Icons must not be venerated (iconoclasm). No singing. No common spoon for the blessed Eucharist lest we get a virus!! I am more afraid of insulting the Spirit of Grace than of being viewed as judgmental. I don't know what to do. I feel totally alone. Even some heterodox are putting up more resistance to government dictates than we are and they don't have the living body and blood of Christ! Even the poor, godless North Koreans would, as Vladimir Putin has said "rather eat grass than submit to U.S. tyranny". And we just roll over and submit.

Hello Craig, be assured, we had a Liturgy on Sunday, no limit to the congregation size, no list of names taken, Holy Communion taken from a common spoon. No one was prevented from kissing the icons. The sung responses are an essential part of our worship. We are ROCOR. Your statement is not correct.

@@craigmouldey2339 The UK government has banned congregations of more than thirty for baptisms and weddings, but regular services have no limit. There are certain suggestions made,, but no requirement in law to make lists of names etc. - I don't think our Russian members would be happy after the experiences in their homeland under the communists to see registers being taken. The little I know about Canada suggests you have a very liberal regime - liberal in the sense that it is very opposed to traditional values, so I assume the attitude towards Christians would not be entirely sympathetic. Don't let their schemes rob you of your peace Craig, we must expect much worse to come. God bless you.

@@FatherSpyridonROCOR You have it al pegged pretty well Father. There are Russians in my OCA parish and my priest did mention they may not like the idea of lists of names. But he still had to institute that requirement, per the Bishop. I don't think the ROCOR Parish did that. Yes, the federal government is globalist liberal on steroids. But I believe these requirements are coming from the provincial government which is conservative. Apparently, they are taking their directions from somebody else. If we so easily fall in line now, what is going to happen, I wonder, when those much more difficult times arrive? I don't believe we will have long to find out. Thank you for your responses.

Brother, I have benefited much over the months by what you have taught, but you're really confusing the issue of faith! When you talk about a dead faith (I take it you're referring to what St.James said in his epistle; because as far as I'm aware, St.Paul never mentioned a dead faith), it sounds like you're saying that we have to maintain our faith to prove that it is real. I'll give you what I believe faith is: do you believe that the death of Jesus Christ satisfied the righteous wrath of God and squared the accounts? Do you believe that if you and I accept that death on our behalf, we will be declared innocent in the sight of God because someone took the rap for us? That is what you have to believe in order to be justified. That is what it is to believe in Jesus Christ- have faith in Him. We must see in Jesus Christ nothing less than God taking our place in judgment and taking the responsibility for our evils. It is confidence in the life, the ministry, the work, the achievements, and the grace of God.

Roger McIntyre The death of Christ was NOT TO APPEASE AN ANGRY GOD. The Orthodox faith is so profound, the theology of the Logos~Christ (Word of God) so vast and deep, that it would much more than a short video to explain that wisdom from which Fr. teaches. Please contact an Orthodox priest or deacon. Your assumptions here are not shared by our teachings. Blessings on your way

Echoing Mary's Market's thought -- a very different soteriology (understanding of salvation) prevailed early in the life of the Church, before medieval Western thought and scholastic innovation emphasized the juridical images you describe. The Protestant movement deepened the divide from ancient faith. Agreed that a priest could explain the details better; I can offer that we are often encouraged with the image of Christ's death as the "trampling down [of] death by death," and with the image of the Church as a hospital -- the place of healing > condemnation.

Faith is the opinion formed in belief about eternity in the conformity of reality justified in determination of reason by Heaven guarded by eternity in the policy of God Creator by promise for humanity as the Eucharist proofs these days. By personal faith we are by God called to become an example in the world of belief to God only by the policy by promise. Receiving the knowledge of the computer was by personal faith called by God to become an official example in belief to God in the policy by promise of the Eucharist while the intention of virginity was proven according Ephese 6, the foundation of the Holy Church. Faith stays a blessing and becomes never a curse. Real faith has total trust on Heaven and is 100 % belief to God Creator in other words every moment for eternity. In belief to God Creator has the trust on Heaven to grow by no other way of God in the policy by promise than faith while God is a partner of Heaven and belief to God has to be for the future of eternity with God's promise of eternal life in Paradise. Every opinion has to be made under Heaven for eternity with God's promise of eternal life in Paradise established in desire. Democratization is a proof of the growing faith of the world in the personal responsibility with the collective memory and so it is a proof of growing belief to God Creator for the promise of salvation over the bread. As long faith is growing it seems fluctuating while potential faith is building up because each memory is eternal as impossibilities fade away. Faith has an immeasurable value and is not to measure by intellect (IQ).
