    Hi Stripey 👋. Another great adventure hiking over the beautiful landscape in Scotland. Good to see Robert out with you too. I actually think alcohol stoves are lovely to use, but unless you have a cone, very inefficient, just need to find one, or make one. Thanks for sharing 👋 Serk

    Hi Serk 👋, yeah I think as well but they are still the lightest and cheapest option for weekend trips imho. Yes a cone makes it better but I do not believe, let us say a week long trip or so, an alcohol setup will be lighter than an ultralight gas stove setup. Thanks Stripey

    You should take a couple of black bins bags with you for crossing deep water - pop them on over your shoes and trousers. Like flexible wellies.

    @@StripeyHatGuy I know our climate too well, every year we have at least one, but usually two false springs. Then all hell breaks loose. But this winter has been mild. It was a February, in the early nineties I walked the Lairg ghru, intending to sleep in the bothy, but it was full of some big whisky drinkers so gave it a swerve and slept behind a rock using the jacket as a sleeping bag, it was quite mild, but then I was young and daft, now I’m just old and daft 😂

    It was fun to see you camp in a different environnement . When you know you have a river crossing to do maybe a pair of neoprene water shoes would be great to have in your pack 🤔 . I guess there was no smelly feet that night ...😅 I'm glad you where avare of potential widow makers over your camp , here in Québec, the forest is everywhere and we have to choose the less dangerous spot to pitch our tent . Too bad it was that windy , you had lots of wood available for a campfire. Where having a mild winter here also , and less snow than usual in the Montreal area , quite a strange winter ... thanks for bringing us along

  • @StripeyHatGuy

    @StripeyHatGuy

    Thanks a lot Sylvain! Yeah I am actually looking into some water shoes which have a more stable toe cap - somehow I think it would be handy to have a little protection for my wee feet. Or some DIY campshoes for the time when I wear trailrunners... As most of the time in life better safe than sorry - unfortunately we are not allowed to have a campfire in the Cairngorms NP. Generally in Scotland you are only allowed in dedicated places to my knowledge and woods/forests are rather a rare sighting in Scotland 😢. Aye the winter is a joke this year, I just read the news and we had apparently a place in Scotland which was around ~18C this weekend - absolutely crazy for January. Cheers Stripey

  • @StripeyHatGuy

    @StripeyHatGuy

    4 ай бұрын

    Thanks a lot Charles. Yeah the Flextail is a great pump, particular the light function. The yellow device (thermodrop keyring thermometer) is to my knowledge the lightest and for my use case best data logger you can get. A battery holds for roughly a year, waterproof and it shows you current as well as min./max. temperature without the need of a phone. I do not need any further information. I use also a Garmin tempe to record the temperature during an activity but that is even more a gimmick than knowing how cold it actually was during the night. Would I pay for the thermometer the price in the UK? No I wouldn’t as it is too expensive imho, there are fairly cheap Bluetooth alternatives on the UK market - probably best to ask someone who lives in America to bring it over as a present 😂
