A Leather Wallet on the Cricut, a Design to Build Episode

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I designed and made a wallet on the Cricut, including some artwork using the Cricut Pens. I had the Cricut draw on, and cut the pieces, and then I assembled the wallet using standard leather tools. This was only the second detailed leather project I had ever done, and I found the Cricut just let me approach it much more quickly. Not only can you look at a project, like a wallet, that you like - you can jump into digital tools and design many of the more basic projects quickly. By designing them, you work through mentally how to assemble the project as well. The Cricut does a great job of giving you nice clean cuts, almost looking like they came off a press.
I think that many makers overlook the Cricut Maker as a valuable tool in the shop. I also think it may be one of the best entry points into leather working.
This is a design to build video, meaning I want to walk through all aspects of the project, from the digital design, to the actual build. I want a single video that tries to walk someone through the entire project. From design to build.
I would welcome any and all feedback from those with more experience in leather working, or on the digital side. Just realize I am very new to this, but am having a blast with it.

Your project turned out beautifully. I just received a Cricut Maker bundle as a gift and SOOOO appreciate your videos I’m fairly new to leathercraft and want to learn to use the cricut with leather as well. So, to see you use it in this fashion was perfect! Also, I appreciate you’re being ‘real’ & showing yourself ‘learning’ the craft right along with us. It helps to have work-around solutions talked about (ie, importing the file into cricut design program/sizing issue). Thanks! Will be watching your videos for more with leather and Cricut!

Great video brother and I really like the look of your wallet! I used to get funny looks from the ladies at the local craft store when I would come in to buy materials to use for my maker but now they all jump in to help me & think it's just great that a guy & his son are so into what I guess they don't see many men doing. To be honest just like you said it gives me a great feeling of pride to be able to use something every day I made with my own 2 hands as well. It's even more sweet when I can teach my son that he can do the same. Thank you so much for your help in doing so. Keep up the great work!

Just a heads up - if you want people to watch several of your videos in sequence, and channels hoping to grow, like yours, do, I recommend shortening your opening title sequence. I'd cut it to at most a quarter of what it is now. I know you're proud of your work, and you want to show what you do, and your edit looks and sounds great, no doubt about that... but no one wants to see that again and again and again when watching your vids in sequence. This "need" for an intro title sequence is a hold over from TV. I notice people who are older, like myself and yourself, who grew up with TV often make these long title intros, while KZread natives (people who grew up with youtube, who think youtube always existed! haha! Imagine!) will have a 3 second title sequence or less! Often they'll just have a tag line that they recite at the beginning of every video, something simple, but unique to them... "Hellllo guys, it's Tim here!" and boom they're done with their branding just like that. They know how KZread viewership works! I can't recommend this change enough. This is the second video of yours that I've watched, and I was reaching for the play head 1 second into your title sequence. Hope this helps!

I actually agree, and it’s something I’ve been meaning to tighten up... I still like a small title sequence, but it needs to be a lot shorter... cheers
