The A Lange & Sohne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon 740.036F stands among the elite of luxury watchmaking. From its commanding heights, it presents an unassailable front of luxury, refinement, engineering, and exclusivity. Launched in 2016 and limited to 100 pieces in platinum, Lange’s ultimate Datograph is a tribute to the resolve and ingenuity of East German watchmaking. In Saxony, this is the chronograph to rule them all.
A Lange & Sohne launched the original Datograph in 1999. Even in its basic flyback chronograph, the Dato and its caliber L951 was a revelation that prompted serious soul-searching in Switzerland. It’s no coincidence that in the decade that followed, Patek Philippe formally ended its used of chronograph customer calibers from Lemania. More than a statement of in-house know-how, the Datograph’s sheer standard of movement finish forced Patek and many other elite Swiss watchmakers to revisit their commitment to “bienfacture” and decorative refinement.
In 2005, the Tourbograph Pour le Merite married a chronograph function with a tourbillon. 2006 marked the arrival of the first Datograph Perpetual that combined the features of the 1999 watch with an instantaneous-jump perpetual calendar.
2016 witnessed the launch of one chronograph that unified nearly all of Lange’s modern chronograph precedent: the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon. At 41.5mm in platinum, this complicated watch packs a remarkable amount of features into its case. There’s a flyback chronograph, an instantaneous-jump perpetual calendar, a moonphase, a power reserve indicator, and a tourbillon regulator with hacking seconds.
At Glashutte’s premier watchmaker, every detail matters. The dial of this Datograph is black galvanized sterling silver. Lange uses exclusively solid gold for its moonphase discs, and this one has an accuracy of one adjustment every 122 years. The perpetual calendar system is clever, and the trigger at ten o’clock can advance every part of the calendar in synchronized motion should the watch stop and fall behind. Finally, useful amounts of super luminova make the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon readable at night.
Caliber L952.2 is a masterpiece of 729 parts. All bridges and plates are made from golden-hued “German Silver,” an alloy of nickel, copper, and zinc. The traditional chronograph architecture of a column wheel and lateral clutch is employed for the sake of feel and aesthetics. Each tourbillon includes a diamond capstone on the underside of its bridge. Free-sprung balance architecture combines with an overcoil hairspring to achieve outstanding timing performance. Both fired blue screws and black-polished screws are employed, and many of the former help to secure pocket watch-inspired golden chatons that hold the pivot jewels.

Nice to see some cool other brands here rather than the usual moser and Bethune we get every day, the first IWC is gorgeously simple… the AP’s are horrible as always 😂 and I don’t know where to start with that Lange 😍

I do love me some watchfinder and co videos. But he’s the Lange movement looks almost as good as my Hamilton khaki field mechanical calibre H50
Damn that AP RO Chrono has gone up so much. I waffled on one in 2020 that was listed for $22k
That Lange.... that is something else! The holly trinity may remain, but Lange is in a league of its own. Not even PP gets close!

I was referring to the Yacht Master in 2 tone. I could say the same about rhe U.N. lol. U.N. is also one of those brands that you can't mistake for any other. You now know It's a U.N. the minute you see it
Oh wow I like that gold/ salmon* dial DB. That has to be the first DB that really caught my eye. Awesome picks today. Also are you sure DB is firing their titanium because I swear it looks more anodization which is much easier to do and is way more consistent plus is very precisely controllable.

You can anodize titanium using a flame but it’s much more difficult than doing it with electrolytic methods.
what is the sense of a 122 years moonphase? don´t you ahve to bring it to service from times to times ;-) ? but all in all a grail watch
