A knitting episode (8): Kuutar top + all the wips, yarns & plans

Thank you for joining me. I'm delighted to share some of my knitting with you, but my choice of venue came with a (small) price today. First the birds, then the occasional gust of wind (the windshield on my microphone was a little askew apparently), and then, well, you'll see for yourself. I hope you''ll shrug at the outdoor keeping-it-real ambience (and that you can hear me!)

The list of Nordic designers is endless, and I cannot hope to include them all here. Feel free to check out the ones listed and add any you think should be included in the comments section (while keeping it realistic; I probably won’t be adding 50 names), and if all else fails, remember Google is your friend. I like this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds..." I find the more I knit/crochet, the wider the range of colours and styles I like. I like your friend's suggestion about feedback: "Try it on like a hat. See if it fits. If not, you can discard it." I couldn't agree more. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of your world. Whether you are traveling, knitting, or simply "musing", I appreciate being "invited in." Wouldn't the world be boring if we all dressed alike, had the same thoughts, lived in the same type of house, and traveled nowhere? I started watching your videos because of knitting and I've watched your videos that have nothing to do with knitting. Enjoy your life and thank you again for being kind and genuine. P.S. Thank you for all the woolly content as well as such wise purls (pearls) of wisdom. Be safe in your travels - maybe there won't be yarn shops when you are visiting but maybe there are knitters who would like to show you what they are knitting and would consent to you photographing their creations. I knit to your travel episodes and LOVE that you share them. Many of the podcasts I watch feature surroundings. I especially love Fiber Trek in case you are not familiar, Sarah lives in Maine (USA) and knits, spins, weaves, sews, (quilts), makes journals, prints, etc, etc....and I live in Michigan. She is calm and nature oriented....visits farms from time to time and fiber events. There is such a broad spectrum of podcasting out there. I am glad to have found so many after I retired and not before. 🧶

I really love your quotes from authors and Aristotle. I think your knitting is beautiful. Thank you for sharing, I like the idea of putting sticky notes on the line of projects, and how you can change the order and not have to think about what is up next. The tour of your summer holiday on Santorini was wonderful. It was so inspiring. I have only read about the Greek islands from books and to see the cities, the whiteness of everything, the hot pink bougavilla was amazing draping all over the walls. It is fun getting to know the diverse life you live and enjoy. I hope you put aside the hats that don't fit and keep being yourself.

I do not understand why some folks need to make negative comments- they can scroll on by. As my my mum would say, if you can’t find something kind to say, say nothing. So many lovely projects and yarns again today. I love how blending several yarns can so change the colour and texture- fascinating and fun. That dark blue colour and test knit pattern looks intriguing. Like you, I need very soft yarn on my neck. I knit the Elton, by Joji Locatelli, in black- it’s similar to the other test knit you are doing in that it stripes fingering and mohair. It took me many months to do. I set the project bag by my chair and it became my half hour if knitting in good light each morning- eventually it was done and I so love it.I always have several projects on the go to suit my mood, surroundings, mind space and hand pain. The Lamb and Kid yarn looks so amazing. I hope to go to Seattle someday and head to Bainbridge Island. I live in the interior of BC Canada and it is about a 6 hour drive to Seattle where I several cousins and a nephew live. One cousin is also a knitter, so maybe we could make a fun day of going yarn shopping. Our Canadian dollar and mailing costs really discourage purchasing many lovely yarns. I have started the Lotus Lake socks by Anniina Juuti, a Finnish designer and a you tube blogger. I am loving it- most complicated sock pattern I have ever made. The yarn shop you videoed is so beautiful- I would be like a kid in a candy store. We lost our last yarn shop in my city during COVID. 😕 Thanks for another lovely episode. The birds and the changing weather were a delight.

I love that baby blue summer top a lot. I also love the shirt and skirt with the white and blue stripes. 🙂 Very fresh and summery. Lucky you are back home from Greece now, because they are having a horrendous heat wave in Greece now, with fires. My sister lives in Greece, near the bulgarien border. She has a sheep farm there. She tells me it is so hot, that they still have 28°Celsius at night and over 40 during the day. I love those prescious stone stitchmarkers a lot. When I have special stitch markers, I sometimes wear them as a necklace, just threading through a nice chain. 🙂 That pink embroidered bag is just devine! I love it. I do quiet some embroidery myself and I sew handbags as well, amongst many other things, lol. Can`t wait to see that fluffy dress in all those "crazy" colours. Actually I think they will look so stunning together. Huggs from Fairy Tale Cottage, Schurwald Forest, Germany. 🥰

Absolutely love all your podcasts…knitting and travel. We (yes, my husband watched too!) enjoyed your trip to Santorini, as we will be there next May! Now he can put your face in his mind when I tell him about your knits! Thank you for being you. Your quotes are so inspirational. ❤

Helle you are a breath of fresh air, I love all your videos especially the travel videos even though I am a knitter. Your knitting inspires me and I love the daft colours you choose. I must say I cannot believe some one gave you the thumbs down after all the hard work you do to make a video. I have told my friends about you so hopefully your show will grow

Thank you Helle for such a lovely visit with you about your knitting!! I love to sit and knit as you share all your projects and yarns!! My kitties were all gathered around watching too, because of the singing birds all around you. They kept looking trying to see the birds!! Your podcast is so inspiring and you have such a beautiful soft voice. I live in the USA and shared your podcasts with my knitting friends ( who now watch too). You are much appreciated❤

Good evening Helle! I am so happy you are here and I enjoy your podcast very much! I work at The Lamb and Kid and enjoyed meeting and helping Sherri out when putting together the yarn for a project you had in mind. It did not occur to me that she was sending you the yarn because the colors were so different than anything I have seen you knit! However, I was thrilled to know that you love the yarn and will create a luxurious garment! I have several sweaters knitted in Big Birdie and cannot get enough! Two more of Sarah's bases I think you would enjoy is Elmer Fingering held with Birdie= pure luxe! I hope you enjoy your knitting with Big Birdie and explore more options! BTW, Sherri is a treasure! ❤

How delightful to read your comment and to know you had a hand in finding the yarn 😍 Thank you! Yes, I guess it’s kind of a departure for me, although not entirely. And I do find it exciting to explore new territory from time to time 🥰 I hope I will be able to do the luscious yarn and colors justice 🤞🏻The combination you mention is one I would also love to try at some point (if only you weren’t so far away 😽). And yes, Sherie is amazing! All the best, Helle🩷

One of my favorite Nordic designers is Arne & Carlos. They actually inspired me to relearn crochet AND I learned to knit from them this year. Also, I’m excited to see what you make with that Lamb & Kid yarn! So pretty. I LOVE your aesthetic.

Helle, I’m thankful for your videos. I love your work and you have GREAT taste! I’m sorry that you’re feeling a little crushed by the public. I agree with everything that you’re saying. Try and delete the negative posts as soon as your eye catches them. They’re inappropriate ways that sad people behind a computer share their own pain. Keep up the beautiful journal of your life and work. 🙏💕🇺🇸

I am in admiration of your knitting too. I cannot knit but adapt this style now into crocheted garments. By using quality yarns with and adapting patterns, I am able to get a little of the knit look I so love. You inspire me! 🧶

As to the color/compliments/critique comments…personally I knit a lot of variety of shawls etc with many colors, kind of spontaneously, and often I don’t love what I knit. 🥺. I admire you for the clear sense of your style and how you achieve that so beautifully in your knitting wardrobe. I would LOVE to have input from someone who could help me focus better. At 62 I want to knit more garments I will love and wear, and you make it look so easy! I’m an excellent knitter but I’m perplexed how my style doesn’t usually dictate what I knit. Something to contemplate especially as I destash to relocate my stash from a studio to my home. I’m creating a shelf for projects in the queue, so maybe that’s the first step toward more practical garment knitting in my favorite style. Love your videos, thanks for the time you give us. ❤

Hi Helle, I love how you handle those people who would judge others with negative comments. We are supposed to lift each other up, motivate, and inspire each other. I would like to say to them, "If you don't have anything NICE to say - DO NOT say anything. BE KIND and CONSIDERATE!" I also love your knitting and the calm tone you produced. Your knitting has inspired me so much that I just want to make everything you made or making LOL. I did just finish the JONI tee because of you 😛. In U S, I could find the yarn the pattern called for, so I substituted with cotton and alpaca. The finish product came out just as beautiful and comfortable, I think LOL.😛

I love that latter quote from Aristotle, and also the comment advising ‘not to wear other peoples opinions’. 🙌🏻 Another great episode Helle, I could make so many more positive comments but by the end of the episode I have forgotten most of them - a great reason to watch again. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and knits with us all 😊
