A knitting episode (16): FO's, WIP's, swatching & indecision
Thank you for joining me here today on a rainy knitting episode! It's been a long time coming, which I talk about a bit in the video, so thank you for your patience. After a few days of editing and three days of down-/uploading time, I can report that the weather has now markedly improved (not that you care about the weather, but any Danes watching might wonder what I'm on about i the video, although everyone will surely remember the almost biblical amounts of rain we've had - wettest April in history, they say).

Don’t be discouraged! The variety within your podcasts is what draws me. I love the knitting content but enjoy your other topics so much.
Dear Helle, Your podcasts are sensational experience for both my ears and eyes. You talk about creating „AWE“ experiences, and you delivered that and more :-) with this definitely. The way you talk about knitting - describing the yarn, the garments, and the process - is something I could never have imagined speaking about my knitting experiences. Deep down, I always had an inkling of what knitting does for me, but I never fully realized it until I started listening to your podcasts and hearing you discuss knitting. It was an absolute ‘wow’ experience for me. You mentioned that some people have canceled their subscriptions since you started talking about knitting. Personally, I would love to hear everything about your life, your experiences, and your wisdom, including, of course, the knitting part. What has become clear to me is the immense effort and time you put into these podcasts, activities that might not always be your primary passion but are done because they are valuable. This made me realize how important subscriptions are because, although I don’t have all the details, they apparently help compensate for this hard work. Subscriptions allow us to support and appreciate your work. If I could, I would subscribe to your podcast or channel three or four times over because now I understand how much effort goes into it. Perhaps many who cancel their subscriptions don’t realize the effort involved. Maybe you could also consider creating a podcast series or an episode about what it takes to create a podcast, what it means to you, and your process of developing an episode. It would not only be fascinating to know what goes into it, but also, once people realize and become aware of what it entails, some might reconsider canceling their subscriptions. Thank you for all from the bottom of my heart Isabella
I'm interested in watching whatever videos you choose to make!
Oh no please make the other kind too, it is so interesting to see your life and thoughts on life. That's what I came for, but also enjoy the tidbits you come out with whilst showing us your makings which are wonderful thank you for sharing, I find it refreshing listening to an actually educated person....academically and of life's experience too!
Love listening to you - both your knitting chat and philosophical reflection - and I enjoy your whole ethos and vibe which I find both serene and uplifting. I am often awestruck by others’ knitting prowess and of course by the skill and expertise of designers and yarn producers. Likewise I am often humbled by my friends’ comments about what they perceive to be my talents. What others see in us is not always that which we see in ourselves! Most wonderful of all is nature and her beauty, which reveals itself in myriads of ways every day. How blessed we are to live on such an amazing planet! Love and gratitude for you, your podcast, your insights and recommendations - most heartily welcome. Linda, UK 💕

Dear Helle, it's always a delight , sort of sittining next to you in your bright, airy living rooms 😊.that being said, would'nt you mind telling me as to how many skeins of each of the Sonderyarn yarr you brought calong? I frll.prsx to this color as well❤
As always, it’s a pleasure to sit with you, Helle, and chat! The “gloomy” background just showcased your cherry blossoms better. Lovely knits, though I find them all quite ambitious! It’s so interesting to listen to your comments on fit and construction, as well as yarn substitutes. I, too, am currently mainly knitting from stash… it’s a fun challenge for sure! Your reads, podcasts and “musings” were much appreciated. I’ve read and enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees and I also find the CEO Podcast extremely thought provoking - thank you for mentioning this one, which I haven’t yet heard. I hope Denmark gets more sun soon!! Berlin is also quite chilly still, and while I have my unfinished summer knits from last year at the ready, I’ve not jumped into them yet….. I enjoy ALL your podcasts, make whatever you want!!!
I look forward to your refreshing videos so much. Your thoughtful and friendly demeanor is something I can't seem to get enough of, and is apparent in both your knitting and non-knitting episodes. It is a rare friend to find who can engage as if we're in a café chatting about our everyday lives, and offer these pieces of yourself to us, all the way across the world. Your channel is invaluable to me and has encouraged me in my new-ish knitting journey, and I am grateful for having found you. Personally, I hope that subscribing to you changes my algorithm to find others on this platform with whom I resonate as much as I feel I do with you and your content. Thank you for all the work you do on this channel.

I'm always so excited when you pop up on my feed. Post what you like; people will come and go like the tide. You can't make everyone happy, and trying only steals your happiness. Your knitting is always so stunning! I love the sweater you're wearing. And outside your window looks so romantic. Happy knitting and living 💚🧶💚

How right you are! Thank you for that reminder😚❤️
Love the quote you started with! It truly made me reflect on what things I wonder at. I really love to watch nature documentaries for that reason, they leave me in a state of wonder. But also knitting! I could knit stockinette without looking but I choose not to a lot of the time because I just enjoy the process so much. And the peace I gain from just looking at my hands make the same motion, and the fact that I'm MAKING something, is awe-inspiring to me.
Really like and enjoy all of your podcasts. Please continue both If you can.
Thank you so much, Helle, for your podcasts. The content, knitting and non-knitting, give me so much joy and inspiration. Please don’t change anything.
your Ppoppo warp was my daily dose of awe this afternoon. Love the way you frame your knitting practice throughout your podcast.
It is not easy to find both....a perfect knitting video and an intelligent woman who is also giving you a piece of mind. That's why it's so interesting not only to see your knitted things but also to listen to your calm voice and your thoughts...🇨🇦🇩🇰

Please continue podcasts…keep combining your vast knowledge of resources, books and your beautiful knits. You give helping hints in patterns. I feel much peace after listening to you.
I can relate to the need for recharge time. I didn't always understand it for myself, but when I learned about the term 'Highly Sensitive Person' (processing sensory experiences at an increased level of sensitivity), I started to understand why I get drained, and why sitting alone in a room (knitting!) is such a great recharge activity.
So grateful for your podcast suggestions ❤️ These days we are bombarded with so much on KZread it was good to get a recommendation, I had passed these two by even though I love Dr Rangan Chattergee and Diary of CEO. I have watched them both whilst knitting. Thank you 🙏
I have that problem too. I talk about my life in Orkney which is the background to my yarn choices and what I like to knit and design. Yes it hurts but don’t let it stop making the videos you like from time to time. I personally always look forward to all of them.
Thank you for another beautiful podcast!!! ♥️🐑♥️🐑♥️
I just love listening to you, no matter what you talk about. I find your voice and esthetic soothing and relaxing. Your podcast is a very special part of my day. ❤ from Canada!

I not only love your knitting episodes but also the ones when you travel. They are so well done and interesting. It did not seem gloomy with your lovely pink flowering tree in the background outside.
I love your knitting videos....please don't stop...i love them because of your beautiful style, colorways, finished knits and comments.
I found you with the knitting video - I enjoy them so much and I am a quilter/beginning knitter and in 2 or 3 book clubs so, I enjoy all you do!! Loved our visit to Denmark & Sweden ,when my husband was alive - keep up your wonderful “varied” posts, I love them.💕
The lavender is a wonderful color for you! And I enjoy all your podcasts, both knitting and everything else. Thank you!

Please continue with the great variety of podcasts...I enjoy them all. X
I think you present a great balance of knitting and other adventures. Sometimes I’m playing catch up on your videos and often need to watch in segments, but I really enjoy your videos.
Love your podcasts and all content. Enjoy everything you cover. Always something different and glimpses of life Thank you 🙏
What a gorgeous podcast Helle! As always, but also I want to make sure you are aware each time you put yourself out there and do an episode, that you make something beautiful that resonates with me (and I’m sure a bunch of others). Thank you!

I also value your podcasts and especially your musings…. I want to make everything you’ve made in the exact same colors. All beautiful!!
What a lovely episode. I really enjoy all your content from life, knitting, nature and books. You inspire me in so many ways. Thank you.♡
The lilac pop of color of your Aeygo sweater is so fun & hue works well on you. I am happy to see shades of purple, lavender and lilac gaining popularity. The Sonder yarn swatched up really showcases its beautiful color. I am with you about the value of swatching even though I am sometimes lazy about swatching. When I do go to the effort always pays off getting a good hand and testing out new techniques. In joy your program.
Your discussions are so thoughtful. The piece about recharging makes so much sense.
You are such a charming lady with nice manners and taste. I like your knitting and tips. Thank you for sharing your experience with us! ❤❤❤
Stopping the video to say, before I forget, please continue being yourself, and doing what you enjoy, such as starting the podcasts with a thoughtful quote. 🙂💚 I love your knitting videos, but I truly enjoy your perspective, and so the non-knitting videos are just as lovely. If folks unsubscribe, they are the ones missing out. I absolutely loved your travel vlogs to France, Greece, and NYC. Those of us who can’t travel, are able to vicariously travel with you. Thank you for sharing with us. 💚🧶

It’s nice to know that someone else can become exhausted from being socially active. I also like your trips around Denmark and other countries. You have a very calming show for this retired lady.😊
Thank you again for such a lovely podcast. I watched it on this Monday morning with my coffee with my breakfast and with knitting it was perfection. I love all of your knits! You inspire me!❤️❤️❤️
I appreciate your philosophical approach to life. A person should not have one facet only. Knitting is a meditative practice. Keep on being you. There are always those who will be critical or dismissive. Let them let go. Thank you for all of your musings.

Beautiful video and such a lovely setting. I’m under a rug here in New Zealand where it is getting cooler everyday but I did get a 5 K walk in with my friend. Now alone time before my partner returns from golf. I’m knitting an old cardigan pattern I made for my mother who has now passed away in a very old yarn we both used 45 years ago! Gosh I hope it turns out ok and the yarn hasn’t degraded too much. Oh the nostalgia!
Hello, you are doing an amazing podcast. I always watch and enjoy everything from your knitting, traveling and quotes!
I love listening to you, including your non-knitting content, Helle. You are such an interesting person, and it doesn’t hurt anyone to learn a thing or two outside their normal worlds. Thanks for a lovely podcast.

Hello! I have been watching for quite some time. I am here for ALL of it! I love knitting, travel, and history, I love biking and driving through Denmark. I love the architecture, I love the talks while walking in the forest, and the garden. I especially loved the episode about finding things to adore.. that giant wooden troll tucked away in the thicket, complete with a cozy bench, was truly enchanting. We could all use a little more joy-seeking in our lives..... I am sad to hear that some have unsubscribed. I wonder if something else may be going on. My daughter has a KZread channel as well....and KZread 'unsubscribed' me from her channel. I was also unsubscribed from your channel. KZread has just started unsubscribing me from some of my favorite channels. I am not sure why. I have resubscribed at least 3 times! This may be what is going on...I have never unsubscribed from this channel myself…yet I have had to resubscribe....this makes no sense. So weird. On a brighter note, have you ever considered offering a yoga class here on KZread or maybe hosting one on Zoom? I'd be over the moon to join! Just a little something to ponder. Thank you for everything you do and share. I've gleaned so much wisdom from you, and honestly, I wish we were neighbors! I'm waving from Michigan, USA!

Please make your videos as you feel what is right. I love your videos. I watch them while knitting and love learning about what you’re knitting and also about life in Denmark. It’s so hard to have a KZread channel and appease all subscribers.
Your opening quote reminds me of the Zen concept of ‘Shoshin’ or ‘beginner’s mind’ - “It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying, even at an advanced level, just as a beginner would.” I think it’s a lovely way of looking at life and especially at your own skills that you’ve cultivated and become accustomed to. It can also make the usual wonderful. My mum and I always look forward to your videos - keep up the good work

Helle, that lavender jumper makes you look even more beautiful. That colour really suits you.
First of all, You look absolutely stunning in the lilac color, the color brings out the best of your complexion and makes you look youthful and vibrant! Then, of course, like many others, I strongly encourage you to keep being yourself and posting all kinds of videos no matter the topic. It surprises me every time that you gravitate towards the same authors or that you are preoccupied with the same concepts that I am attracted to. It is really good to know that there are like-minded people all over the world 😍 P.S To me it is obvious that you should make the cardigan which sparks most joy - which seems to be the one from the book ;)

Hi Helle, I absolutely love your podcasts. The photography, your chatter, everything! Denmark is now on my bucket list to visit. Also, you have mentioned about making cardigans. Have you seen the Geiger Cabled Cardigan by Norah Gaughan and Brooklyn Tweed? You may like it. It's on my knitting list. I think it's an heirloom piece.
Thank you so much for sharing these links of Gabor Mate and Doctor Dachner Keltner. I agree that Gabor is an amazing person that has helped a lot of people improve their lives. I 'm also very interested to read the book about Awe. Thank you!!!
Hi, Helle. I found you through knitting, and love your knitting episodes, but I equally enjoy your other installments, particularly the travelogues. Please stay the course.
The sweater you’re wearing is lovely. Lavender looks beautiful on you.
Please don't change a thing. I love your knitting content and equally love your travel and musings podcasts ❤
I was just thinking yesterday that I must catch up on all your non=knitting videos. I have really enjoyed the videos about Denmark and I hope to visit next year. Just keep doing what you are doing. Loving that lavender colour.
I enjoy all the content you post. Thank you for taking the time to do it.
Totally understandthe 'recharge'. I need to give myself the gift of 'me time' as well. And I think it is more necessary as we get a bit older. Look after yourself so that you can look after others.
I love your blend of lifestyle vlogs along with knitting. I feel those knitters who unsubscribe just because it's not knitting are missing out. ( And maybe slightly narrow minded😂). Hi Helle, i just love love both the topics, and the quotes (i even bought you're Ebook, since we are visiting Wales this summer) sometimes send me on a search for this content. So please keep making your original video's, and thanks a lot for this special moments when a new episode comes online.
I’ve watched most of your musing videos, they are fabulous. I’m happy to receive whatever you generously share on this channel 🙏🥰 your sweater looks lovely Dr Helle 💪🏻 My bar is very low, and I notice the simplest of things these days. Living in awe and wonder ✨ it’s a wonderful space to reside in. I also swatch, wash and block while on the needle! Lazy = efficiently 🤭 If I were doing bottom up, I would cast on provisionally where the rib is, that way I could come back at the end and make the ribbing as long or as short as I need, sometimes 2cm can be enough of a difference to me 🤔 Great yarn to have such indecision with, good luck working it out. I watched these podcasts/interviewees they are great. Thanks for sharing another wonderful podcast, Karen

My feeling is make the content you want and enjoy making. I thoroughly enjoy your your videos and it's because I sense you enjoy sharing the knitting and the tidbits. I am amazed at all the items you knit. I enjoy the quotes, and all the tidbits as well. I think humans don't take enough time for awe of the simple things. Everyone has their face buried in their phones. I mean people can't even walk their dogs anymore and pay attention to their dogs - their face is buried in a damn phone. It's pathetic. I say take a walk, turn down the phone, enjoy your dog (animal, child, partner, or even yourself). Take a walk in the woods if you can. Stop and just listen. You'd be amazed at what you can hear, if only you stop to listen.
Tusind tak, Helle, for dine dejlige videoer. Dine strikkeprojekter er for avancerede for mig, men de er inspirerende. Jeg læser rigtig meget og deler din smag 😊 Anette, Melbourne.

Thank you so much, Helle! The lovely spring backdrop to your knitting spot reminds me exactly of my view out the window here in southwestern British Columbia, Canada - the greens are so fresh and 'awesome'. I so appreciated your reminder of what can be awe-inspiring, from music, nature and art to connections with people in our lives, and the place of transformation these encounters with awe can take or point us towards. Interesting, I just listened to the exact podcast between Gabor Mate and Dr. Rangan Chatterjee you mention here and also found it so full of wisdom and plain but also profound truths. I've also read and enjoyed a number of books, including this one, by Sue Monk Kidd. So interesting how lives can intersect on multiple levels in these ways! And then the knitting! I'm very tempted by Aegyoknits Ppoppo jacket but would also like to incorporate my stash yarns somehow for this garment - yours is absolutely gorgeous!
