A Journey From Bariatric Surgery to Bodybuilding | Lyss Remaly Transformation Story

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Lyss underwent bariatric surgery, but it wasn't enough. To shed over 200 pounds, she first had to overcome a lifetime of poor eating habits.

For Lyss Remaly, weight was always an issue. "I was definitely that cute baby who looked like I had rubber bands on my wrists and arms," she says. "It's just not as attractive when you're 18."
At age 4, Lyss was already seeing a nutritionist for her diet and health issues. Family history played a role, but so did eating habits. "As much as I want to blame genetics, it's not like I helped the situation any," she says. "Yes my dad is a bigger guy, and all five of us kids are bigger, but I was also a closet eater. I hid what I ate-I'd hit the drive-thru and maybe eat four Whoppers and fries in my car before going home for dinner. I kept that horrible behavior going for years."
For years, the actress, jokester, and self-proclaimed funny girl hid behind jokes and her vivacious personality, until an embarrassing wake-up call forced Lyss to listen to her body.
This is Lyss' story.

Lauren Claire So true. My addiction is sugar. I’m 56 years old and I’ve used it my most of my life to fill a void. I’m now aware of why I eat sugary treats. I Lost 70 pounds and reversed my type 2 diabetes by giving up sugar. I didn’t want to get on medication. I reversed it in 3 months. I went through a healing period in 2018 2019, releasing past trauma and I started eating sugar again, I can’t just stop at one! I work hard to control it every single day!! 2020 is my comeback!! Today is 1/7/20 and I’m setting intentions and I’m already seeing inches lost. 😊

I have 2 friends that did this surgery and they still have the same psychological problem that caused being so obese. They are not happy, even after losing so much weight. One is an alcoholic now, their coping mechanism is just not healthy. From one addiction to another. Another friend “had”anorexia and is addicted to exercising. Some addictions are not as bad as others, but it’s still the same

Why did the parents let her eat all this junk food when she was only a kid in the first place? In the Netherlands having a morbidly obese child is considered child abuse and parents have to comply with enforcing a diet and taking their children for regular exercise sessions, otherwise they risk having their child placed in a foster family.

I love this story. People think surgery is the easy way out. This story sheds light on the truth. First off, surgery only decreases the size of your stomach. It does nothing for your eating habits or your mental health. Which is why weight loss result variations are so vast. You see some people lose so much and some lose a little. Others gain half of it back. It’s not a magic pill! Like she said. That’s so true. I had the gastric sleeve. I was not obese all my life. I was a yo-yo dieter so I was somewhat slightly overweight and even sometimes normal weight until I had kids 3 of them and I hit 350 almost. I was in denial due to my pear shape and my culture supports bigger women. But I found that even though I didn’t have any health issues, I couldn’t walk for long, I couldn’t stand, I was in severe pain daily. No position was comfortable. After the sleeve I lost over 175 pounds. I am now 160. Muscular and fit. Losing the weight took complete discipline and a lifetime change and modifications to my eating habits. I cut out processed foods and sugars completely from my diet. It’s been a couple years now. No sugars. I found sugar free alternatives. I eat proteins, good fats, veggies, very little fruits and a few starches. I work out religiously 4 days a week. And that’s how the weight has stayed off. The truth is unless you address your food addictions, your bad health and eating habits, you will not lose much weight with surgery. The surgery takes off the first 50-70 pounds and the the real work begins. Not everyone can be successful on this diet. I’ve lost over 90 % of my excess weight. It takes dedication, consistency and hard work. But I couldn’t have done it without my gastric sleeve and God. Anyways great story.

So true! Sadly, two of my sisters have had the surgery and neither have reached a healthy weight. One of them has maintained some of her loss, though she's still a long way off. The other gained all her's back. It's been 4 years since their surgeries. They absolutely need to change the problem that causes their weight, though I don't know they will. I've always tried to maintain a good weight and health, so I'm thankful I'm not in that situation; though I have to work hard to keep from gaining too much, as well. I wish I could give them my determination, but sadly I can't. Thet have to be willing and have that determination for themselves.

You are an absolutely beautiful human, inside and out. Around 5 years ago I was at my heaviest at 176lbs. Doesn't sound overly huge, but I'm only 4'11. I was MASSIVE. I cut calories to 1000 a day and worked out twice a day. I dropped 56lbs and decided I was now the kind of person who could eat anything and not put on weight. How wrong I was. The weight piled back on and I'm now 163lbs after being a lazy, greedy pig for the last couple of years. I'm back at the gym and this time I'm eating well. Really well. The weight is slowly coming off again and I feel great. The key is sustainability, not quick results. I know this now. After watching this video, even though I don't know you I feel IMMENSELY proud of you. I have been the girl who was so big it held her back. I could hear comments in the street and feel the looks from people. All it made me want to do was bury my face in a burger because that was my comfort zone. For the last 15 years or so, ever since I was a teenager, I've been big. No more. I am determined, but your story has made me BELIEVE. You are truly one in a million. X

NEVER cut to 1000kcal a day for too long , you're gonna slow your metabolism and will get fucked by it. cut to 1500 EXTREME MINIMUM. Bcoz your daily calories will drop to around 1300 kcal a day and when you get back to eat "normaly" 2000+- kcal it will not go back to there, will take several MONTH and you gain weight till your daily calories get normalize. good lock with your weight loss.

Thank you for your sharing your story. I had bariatric surgery 4 years ago. People judge as if the surgery sucked up off your fat and you are all of a sudden thin. You said it perfectly; it is a daily challenge and a choice as to what to put in your mouth. I became a vegan which is a hard transition but kept looking for the strength to exercise. You have given me that. Thank you! I will go back to my exercise program with a vengeance and remember you when I don't want to wake up in the morning. As women we must be there to support each other. Wish you the best!!

Pretty freaking amazing and inspirational story, thank you for sharing it. As a father with an overweight daughter, I cried all the way throughout the video but it made me realize that I must not lose my faith, she is doing amazing right now, she seems to be focused on positives in her life and I hope she continues that positive journey and I will be at her side every step of the way. Once again, thank you so much, I am sure it was very difficult at times but you didn't give up, but on the other hand, if it was easy, there wouldn't be overweight people in the world. Thank you.

It's so nice to see someone who understands, being fat your whole life... I was 350+ at 5"3, finally hitting 150lbs was the most uplifting moment knowing I had finally done it. Now I'm working towards the same goal at 145lbs not body building but to get to 120 and tone up and live a fit life. We can do it, no matter where you're starting from, it's possible! You can meet your goals. You just have to do it, You dont need a gym, or a trainer, or surgery you just need the will to do it. I'm living proof of that, and so is she. :)

Kimba Wiggins this is a no brainer. If you build an exercise routine and good eating habits throughout the whole journey, *you have to keep them* . A weight loss journey is an educational process. You gotta learn how to discipline yourself and you have to retain what you've learned for the rest of your life.

    @easypeasy3352

    5 жыл бұрын

RsLeonardo1 are you a troll? she asked a perfectly valid question. for many, this is the most difficult part. also, the use of word diet by you in this way will actually put people off wanting to keep the weight off. diet simply means a particular way of eating, it can be a good or a bad one. telling someone to simply DIET doesn't really contribute anything and carries a negative connotation. for some people, being overweight may be just an incident and it will be very easy for them to get fit and healthy again. For others, who have been overweight for a big part of their lives, it is a coping mechanism with some underlying issues that are harder to deal with that the weight itself. imagine someone was overweight for 15 years, so they were fighting depression for 15 years. even if they loose weight in a year, it is impossible for them to come back from depression in the same amount of time. I have never been truly overweight because I don't want to just dream about being fit, I want to be fit in reality. But come on RSLeonardo1, have some empathy. Life isn't just black and white.

I personally believe that one needs to get to the root as to why they over/under eat. An eating disorder most likely does not stem from one just loving food to the point of such excess. Once you learn to heal your child within ( for an eating disorder usually starts in childhood), and get out of denial as too why you abuse yourself to cope ( I did this through intensive therapy and art), the road to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and weight is promising. Also...note I said "healthy lifestyle"...for it takes alot more change than just diet and exercise. I wish the best for you...God bless you on your journey!

I am very happy for you. Watching this opened up some old wounds. I got to 250 and lost it without surgery (that was the easy route, can’t imagine going through the surgery). We differ in that I am an introvert but we grew up with similar school situations. I had my parents making me feel less then adequate, put the fork down, etc. Every day getting on the bus, hey here comes elephant. I made the decision to lose the weight in my early 40s. I developed the courage to then get out of a toxic marriage. We have a lot of parallel experiences, but some different outlooks afterwords. I learned that people can’t be trusted, can’t be asked for help. You want out of your crap pile, get up and take a shower and move forward. There isn’t going to be hand there to help you up so figure it out. My world is still as lonely, I am just healthier and fun-sized rather than Sam’s industrial sized 😀. I hope to someday find a way to trust people.

WOW!! You are an inspiration! I am 4 days out from Sleeve surgery and am so ready to begin my new life. I cant wait to get to the gym and develop new, healthy habits. Thank you for sharing your story. One further comment- I lost my mom to cancer 11 years ago but seeing the love in your mom's eyes when she was listening to you at the table reminded me so so much of my own mother! She was such a loving, thoughtful and caring woman. I imagine she would have been supportive of my decision to have surgery just as yours was. Thank you and congratulations on your well deserved success. All the best to you!

Such an inspiration! Good for her! I get the comedy thing. I did stand-up for a year, and there are a lot of people in comedy who are depressed or anxious. Comedy lets people love you because of things that you're insecure about since you're turning something negative into something funny and lighthearted. But it doesn't mean that the insecurity goes away. Losing the weight takes constant effort, especially as we get older and if we have sedentary jobs. So glad that I stumbled on this video.

You are an absolute beautiful inspiration in every way sweetheart🥰! I had a similar weight gain and struggle with obesity from a young age into my college years as well , followed by a 15 year journey and learning curve to becoming my healthier self. Although I am now at goal weight, I still struggle with food, but try my best to educate myself and consciously make better nutrition choices every day. Everything you said is truth about how we must continually work towards fitness and health daily. There is no magic pill or formula. We are all so very proud of you honey ! Keep going strong! You are an incredible force of light and hope to many. 🙏🏼💕💪🏽

Unfortunately it’s down to you’re genetics. There is no way to avoid extra skin. Some people are very lucky and others are not. It seems like it’s only surgery. That being said, it will always be more beneficial to get yourself in shape despite these fears. Nothing compares to that feeling of mobility and health when you’ve lost weight. Loved ones around you will never judge or make you feel awful because of excessive skin, they will be proud and support what you’ve achieved and the confidence that you have.
