A José Andrés Masterclass on Gazpacho and Life

Ойын-сауық

José Andrés, James Beard Award-winning chef and one of the world’s 100 most influential people according to Time Magazine in 2012 and 2018, serves up gazpacho in the MUNCHIES Test Kitchen.
Not only does José outline a versatile gazpacho recipe, but he also shows us the importance of talking to your ingredients and using care as an essential ingredient in this quick and easy recipe.

With all due respect, José Andrés, your wife is right: the traditional (tomato) gazpacho is made with no bread. In salmorejo, the bread serves two purposes: to recycle dry bread and to make the dish heavier, thicker, more filling and rich in calories. But gazpacho is a drink, meant to provide workers with water and mineral salts that they lose in the work under the harsh sun of Andalusia. That's why you add water to the gazpacho and you definetely do not add any bread. Of course, you are free to introduce any change you wish to, but then it is no longer a traditional gazpacho. All the best from Córdoba.

In my family gazpacho is always without bread and we drink it from a glass. No soup, it's a drink. With ice cubes if possible. It's meant to be refreshing. I know it's made in a lot of different ways, but in my opinion it kinda makes no sense to add bread. It just becomes a soup indeed
