It looks like the drive reversal took away more gray damage than Ken had regular life so it counts as a kill. The same thing happens with drive impact.

That's because it's a counter, not just armor. Same reason JP can do it

Drive reversal punishes are only ever worth it when the opponent is nearly finished, as the damage scaling is utterly ridiculous. There's far more efficient uses of your resources outside of it, like a simple normal confirm into super, instead of emptying your super gauge AND all of your drive gauge to achieve less damage.
