A Hollywood Makeup Artist Does Mature Glam

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I hired a professional makeup artist for my recent photo shoot for SparkLily. Tara Segar www.tarasegar.com worked with me on the film The Fast And The Furious and after my botched DIY makeup for the premiere, I figure maybe I should seek professional help! We talked the whole darn time so I couldn't really speed up the video, so please enjoy a full on glam makeup shown in REAL TIME. If you have ever wondered what it's like to hang out in the makeup trailer, here it is. But seriously - it's an hour and a half. Grab a glass of wine and some snacks...

    As beautiful as Monique looks, and she was having this done for a photo shoot, so she knew this was going to be much heavier than a "normal" makeup look, (plus she is used to photo and film make up) her facial expression hardened a little bit after she got up and looked in the mirror (off camera) the first time....which leads me to think she wasn't happy about it. But I think she looked stunning (as usual!)...and the still shots at the end are amazing!! I love her! I'm 3 months away from turning 52, I just found my first gray hair and seeing her and how sophisticated yet cute she looks, makes me feel that getting gray (or silver) will be OK when it really kicks in!! I LOVE her tutorials and hearing about her everyday life... I live vicariously thru her...so much more down to earth and real life than what's on TV. Thank you for the candor and insight!! I'm East Coast

    It's so refreshing to see someone so interested in what another person has to say and can teach you. You are so normal and down to earth to have been in the business for so many years. Your sweetness and humility is lovely to watch. I would love to see you in your own reality show. Great job, Tara. It couldn't have been very hard painting on that beautiful canvas.

    I'm with you, Aylett! I love getting my makeup done. There's just something nice about having someone pay that much attention to me. Plus, human beings benefit from being touched in a nice way (not talking about sex here; just general, nice touching). For some people this is a very nice experience. Wouldn't wanna sit through 2 hours of makeup every day, but once in a while, it's nice.

    I have been reading make up tips for women over 50 as well as these tutorials. Everything I read and watched up to this one said stay away from dark colors and heavy eye shadows but this is flawless. I love dramatic eyes and I feel like for the most part I pull them off, but I am getting older. Everyone always tells me that I take great pictures and I should model. I know it would be almost impossible at my age to break into this field but I really want to see if I can. My first step is getting some professional pictures done which is what lead me to these tutorials. I love doing makeup, mine and everyone else's. But for a professional shoot I thought I might need to learn to do it better. Thank you for showing me glamourous make up can still be glamourous on older women. I wish I could sit with you for a makeover.

Or they apply it to their "boyfriends" CRAZY. It's all repetitive and there is basically nothing new to learn from them....furthermore, how can I trust their recommendations when it has only been used on themselves???

    The only make-up "gurus" that I watch actually are make-up artists and do it as a living. I actually don't know of any that don't do it as a living. There are some that test make-up products and review them, but they don't consider themselves professionals. But you don't really need to be a professional to review or recommend something.

  • @macdizzie9379

    @macdizzie9379

    I feel like you're being randomly incredibly judgmental about people reviewing things. It's all about personal preference. Personally, I learn a lot from watching people do their makeup. There is no difference in people doing makeup on themselves or other people. It's about the technique. Or in my case, I like seeing how people put new colors together and create new looks with different shades and shimmers to spark my own inspiration. Now again personally, when it comes to product reviews I find people watch those with similar features. Like I watch hair product reviews by people with a similar hair type. Or a similar skin type, etc. Unless you want to be a makeup artist what do you gain from watching people that do makeup on lots of people? There's literally no difference between what they do and what people do to themselves. Everybody uses different techniques.

  • @macdizzie9379

    @macdizzie9379

    In no way was I personally attacking you. I'm just saying there's nothing wrong with the people who aren't formally trained doing makeup on themselves. I'm really over makeup artists thinking they are better than everybody else. Makeup is a fun art. No matter how good or bad at it, it's a fun endeavor. Why would somebody who just loves doing makeup on themselves have to learn about different skin tones and face shapes? You don't have to be a professional to have a passion for something

    I know calcium is important, I lost loads of hair in my early twenties after having a grand mal seizure. The medication caused weight gain and hair loss. A friend bought me the "mane and tail" stuff that was popular then, and I do wish I could remember the supplements , they were amazing. We just called it "hair shake", you added it to Apple juice (or milk, but allergic then and vegan now, so Apple juice) It did t just help my hair, it made my whole body feel better, calmer, so that was a lot of B vitamins. I know those are important for healthy hair. Just make sure you are eating right and supplementing anything you don't get from your diet - which for me is B12.

    The problem is that makeup is no longer easy (It is very hard for the back) and if the client does not stop talking even worse, interrupts and delay the work of the makeup artist, poor esthéticienne so long standing, leaning and have all the time to stop to listen. no Wey.

    I loved this video. I loved the way you knew what your face needed as far as your makeup goes. That is something I need to work on. I don't do a lot of things I should be doing. Lol. It seems the camera just brings it all out. Your amazing Monique. I absolutely love you.

    Its amazing the impact the brow makes. The paler brow she did first was a prettier, softer and more natural look in my opinion. The darker brows take the look to a much harsher, more theatrical/unnatural level. Overall, she did a great job but the video would have been a little more interesting if Tara had have talked about the products and techniques she was using as she went along. I'm not trying to offend, just give honest feedback. Obviously I enjoy your channel otherwise I wouldn't be here! Looking forward to checking out the website.

    I agree Janine. I liked the brows much better with Tara's touch. It would have been fun to let Tara's artistry set the tone this once. But I know it's for Monique's web content etc. So you gotta do what you like, Monique. ; ) Enjoyed the video!

    This is makeup for photos, I think, so it is not "street makeup". The second takes me about four minutes to do :) I would love to have a make up artist 's help, especially with brows!

    At first i wasn't a huge fan but i now REALLY like your videos. You're awesome and I love how you still love glamour and fun (colored wigs, hair caulk, interesting make up colors...) I hate when once 50 hits, everyone feels like they can't enjoy trends. Thank you so much. You are beautiful inside and out. Do you with no apologies!
