@@Lo-tf6qt not really. Vendel is the name of a hustorical period in scandinavia between the bronze age and the viking age. Vendel period helmets are very similar but it's a typical viking age helmet. I agree both vendel and viking helmets look savage with mail. Especially when the mail covers the whole face. The less you look like a human the more frightening you are. Same with corinthian, samurai or crusader helmets.

As a Dane I cant recall ever having seen the character "Svend" in any other role on film/tv. I hope some director somewhere will give him a chance as an actor in a larger production. He clearly can handle a camera close-up convincingly. Same with the horn blower.

True story. In winter 2022, I went snowboarding. I am not a professional snowboarder but not a beginner either. I was contemplating whether to wear a helmet. Decided to wear it. Had the biggest fall i ever had. The snowboard had somehow caught a hole, sending me flipping down the slope. I fell and hit my head pretty hard. I was glad i had a helmet and never doubted helmet from that day hence. Neck hurt for a week but head is fine.

I had a class mate who luckily wore a helmet when we (my class and I) one afternoon rode our bmx bikes after school on the local bmx track. He had the most awful crash I have ever been a witness to. We had to call the ambulance and everything. The doctor told his parents that the helmet saved his life as it was literily broken in half. He doesn't remember his crash but he made a full recovery. The thing with helmets is that you don't need them until you REALLY need one. Which is the reason why it's so important to always wear one!

I love that they have way better production and historical accuracy than history channel.

Well done, Denmark! You did a fantastic job with this advert. I honestly thought it was a clip from a big budget, historical comedy movie. The quality of the writing, set, direction, acting and basically everything was top notch. Encouraging people to wear a helmet when necessary is also a very good and important message to convey. Thanks for your comment, I very much agree. And this ad make me rpoud of my country. About the time of your comment, another commentor was impressed by the 11.000 "likes" already. Now it's at 190.000+ likes. But for me this ad worked. 2 years before, my firend had a bicycle accident and, not wearing helmet, hurt his head and completely lost any short term memory ever since. That didn't make me wear bicycle helmet. But then a year ago - *this ad* did.

yeah, it's fucking annoying and it's in ad after ad after ad, it's insulting to the viewer to suggest to them that everyone is that happy, that much of the time

The fact that they laugh & confess their problems rather than trying to be absolute hardasses that dont make any mistakes or laugh just adds so much dimension & relatability.

This must be the standard for acting, period. I've watched this commercial numerous times, and every time it just blows me away. All these nuances, every gesture, every intonation and facial expression is spot on. And the conversation is precisely the type of conversations that kids would have with their parents regarding wearing a helmet. Masterpiece.

His little "ja" to his wife is just perfect. All the piss and wind vanishes in a heartbeat. The person who directed this was clearly a married man.

One of the best commercials I've ever seen. This is how safety briefings should be at my company. I wouldn't fall off the ladder so often.

It's unfair cuz that helmet is fucking badass. Those type of helmets were always a fucking terrifying sight for the enemy especially with extra chainmail.

Plus the joke still hits better anyways if my critiques are taken into account and fixed. Also you did exactly what you hounded me for. the lol meant it was all in good fun but you had to come in and push your glasses up the bridge of your nose and say "actually" :p

Great ad with good writing, and the wife supporting her husband too and knowing better to help him that is a great touch.

Exactly, and it was a good length of time to absorb the message, see an argument from different sides, and allowing us to visualize consequences without openly telling us. (The wife and children) Rather than the super flashy, seizure inducing ten second ads we have now. Although I do like the hard bass sometime.

By far the best PSA for helmet awareness I've ever seen!

This is acted so well with 2 characters that people are immediately invested in.....they could have made a mini-comedy-series of this and I'd gladly watch it.

@Taramafor Haikido if you are not familiarwithsomeonethen you are propably not family eh. "Vikings talk loud and yell a lot". Just another reason why I hate tv shows like vikings. The fictional viking character has become something that is considered factual. Do hell's angels shout a lot? What about the bandidos or canonballs? Btw, Vikings didn't have braids nor did they have beaded hair or undercuts or stupid weaved leather armor. Dude looks like some kind of steppe horsewarrior whose mother was a slav.

I was half expecting him to say "I can't wear a helmet! I'm the main character!'

This is the second best helmet advert I've ever seen. The first isn't even really an advert. It's just that one 30-second video of the guy falling off his skateboard, surviving a blow that would've killed him if he wasn't wearing a helmet, and immediately jumping up and shouting "I love helmets!"

This not just parodies people riding bikes/motorcycles not wanting to wear helmets, but also fantasy characters and hollywood always having protagonists without a helmet because it doesn't "look cool" and makes it harder to see who it is. Love it.

Dude, we don't have to mix anywhere with cars where the speed limit is over 30km/h, helmets are just an easy way to blame safety on the cyclists instead of their infrastructure planning. Nobody except tourists and speed cyclists wear helmets here because it's so safe.

The main character is an expensive actor with an expensive face. The troops are cheap extras. Of course they can cover their faces with a helmet. Todd Cutler (of Todd's Workshop) explains a lot of reasons that movies are fake in the same ways in at least one of his videos. -PS: I was lost in Philmont and somehow wound up at the Aztec Mine (old, mined out gold mine) before my crew. I'd hate to think of what would have happened if I went in early, as I hit my head [hard] on the ceiling within seconds of going in (and putting on my brain bucket). I suspect that 14 year old me wouldn't bother with the helmet.

IIRC, this literal helmet (the actual helmet design) is portrayed in Verdal, Norway. It was found and presumed to be part of the battle of Stiklestad in 1030, where Olav Den Hellige (Olav the holy) died, in an attempt to bring Christianity to Norway.

Not just medieval but also a lot of war movies set in the current or last century which personally annoys me more as headgear in general is part of any modern uniform although it's understandable that from a story-telling viewpoint characters are easier to tell apart when they don't all wear the same helmets.

@@TheSuspectOnFoot The problem with the "story-telling" of characters needing to show their face is that not only is there some helmet types that do not obstruct the face too much to show emotion but you can still show off a character's emotions if the actor's body language alone can suffice. Most of the time it's just the Actor's ego to show off their face more than they need to.
