What makes this version of the song so sad and somber for me is how you can draw a parallel between the original and this version to real life. This is an old song, and if you notice, the crowd is full of people well into their adult years, they've grown old along with it. The original is fun, exciting, and full of energy, just like when you're a young teenager. This version is slowed down, the energy and "youth" of it is gone, but in its place is a tenderness and an almost haunting and melancholic tone to it, which is indicative of getting older. You slow down, you've expended your energy, you're less upbeat and reckless, but you're more aware, sensitive and tender, and what was once the youthful thoughts of invincibility and now replaced with a growing realization that you don't get to live forever, and time is short, growing shorter every day. So needless to say when i look at this song in that way, it adds this extra sad depth to it for me.

Perfectly said, brought tears to my eyes

The original is still an amazing track, and I like it for so many reasons. But I absolutely adore this version - over 30 years later the lyrics, as you rightly state Bisscute, have a whole 'nother meaning. You can hear the age in Mortens vocals, and he just sings so this so delicate. Together with bands arrangement this is everything I love about music.

Both versions are awesome. They have great talent.

This video that she reacts to has some of the some the most heart warming comments in it. Somebody talking about their parents dancing to this song, but they passed away however they also danced with their 6 year old when it comes on. Another cry worthy one of when guy used to sing this to his wife all the time, but when she was passing away from cancer she said "I will be gone in a day or 2". woof. Plus I bought this album when it was new, and it was probably 3rd album I ever bought with my own money.

I know Deadpool 2 is a goofy movie but the scene with this song over it is absolutely heartbreaking

Worth looking at the original MV as it was ground breaking for the time. It is also much faster than this unplugged version.

I love this version... for me as we grow older with our faults and thoughts, our memories, take on me.. huge respect to the audience who listened and felt every word and emotion quietly.

The original MV in the 80s was something to behold forever. This one is nice too, but it can't top the feeling i had back then in my youth. Love everyone of your reactions though!

I love this version a lot more. I think the song is great period but this slowed down version I think speaks more to what the lyrics are actually trying to convey. It's easy to get caught up in the music and the video, if you watched the video, without diving into the lyrics all that much. Maybe you heard the song many times throughout your life, like me, and because of the tempo and everything going on around it you never really gave much thought to what he is saying. You were just like this is a catchy tune. Once you dive into the lyrics and slow it down though you really start to understand the complexity of what he's talking about. We're not gonna be together forever. Our time is limited so take me for who I am and I'll do the same for you for however much time we happen to be blessed with.

I've seen a lot of reactions to this song, both the original and this newer, slowed down version, and your reaction is the very best I've seen. You draw some parallels that are there, in the song and the two performances and put words to them in an excellent way. Thank you. A-ha has many good songs. I would recommend the sequel, 'The sun always shines on TV', 'Train of thought', 'Stay on these roads', 'Crying in the rain' (which is a cover from Everly Brothers), 'The living daylights' (Bond theme song), 'Summer moved on', 'Analogue', 'Foot of the mountain', 'Cast in steel' - there is a lot to dig into.

Back in Jr. High and High I use to like to use take me on as a warm up song. I was a tenor. Unplugged slows it down and looses some of the parts. The or two is lost in the in a day or two in the fast version.

Basically, it's the sign of age. The faster version reflects youth. The acoustic version is us getting older and it's more poignant. Can we take a moment to marvel at Pal (Paul) Waaktaar-Savoy and his magnificent songwriting. He is A-Ha's secret weapon.

The tv show "The Magicians" the cast sings this song, in this same cadence to say goodbye to a recently deceased friend.
