I’ll do a follow up at some point from the rider’s perspective with more actual doing the filter 👍🏻 my hope in this video was to explain more to car drivers why.

Wish you could filter where I live. Even if it were just at intersections and stop lights. So much safer for a rider, causes less traffic, and I get places quicker.

Moved to the US 10 years ago. Thankfully I moved to California where splitting is legal. Lane splitting and filtering is the same thing. I agree, it’s way safer to split than sit in traffic so long as you follow the 10 to 20 mph rule you talk about.

I’m paranoid about riding the states and filtering where I shouldn’t as so natural to me now! I’ve seen lots of videos of American rider’s riding between cars at speeds where the cars are say 50mph and constant, not stop start, on a 60/70 limit road. The bikers go through the middle of both cars instead of waiting for a safe overtake. In the UK this example doesn’t have a name, but the police would call reckless riding and deem it illegal. Is that legal in California?

In the US, lane filtering refers to when cars in either lane beside the motorcyclist is stopped or is slow or is in start-stop traffic. Lane splitting refers to when motorcyclists travel in between cars in either lanes beside the motorcyclist and the cars are moving at normal speeds. Obviously the motorcyclist often splits at 5-15 mph faster. In California, both lane filtering and lane splitting are legal. In some other states, lane filtering is legal but lane splitting is not. In most states, however, neither lane filtering or lane splitting is legal.

@@mranvo thanks I’ve always wondered! Filtering I’m with (obviously as this video shows 😂). But splitting I can’t get behind, too many risks out of the bikers control.

@@yodomcat sometimes a bit of shouting can be helpful for long term development, haven't made the same mistake again that's for sure! Definitely was a shock though 😂

And I thought it was me who only had problems finding neutral .. and your correct Dom , keeping steady 200kg at slow speeds Is work .. -1 , I’m not riding now .. roll on spring or a steady 10c .. With you 100% on your thoughts ….

@@yodomcat I’m more worried about the road surface TBH . The road is black , dirty , uninviting . As I’m only just getting used to leaning and pushing myself I think it’s best I get some more practice in before I venture out . ITS FREEZING 🥶

@@yodomcat I think I’d be 50 pencing all the roundabouts and bends 😂😂. One step at a time As fir Santa .. we’ll I’ve already ‘found’ a beautiful RST premium leather jacket, gloves , paddock stand and an optimiser !! ( hidden in me lads bedroom!!!! )

I pulled up at a Sainsbury’s petrol station where it had a good few cars queued up at each pump lane, but one of the very front pumps was sat unused because the next driver wasn’t confident enough or clever enough to get through the gap onto it. Was I wrong to ride past the line to use the pump first? When he got onto the pump behind me he didn’t look happy 😂

It’s a moral one that. Personally I’m with you and have done the same. I’m putting £10/20 in my bike and can full up quick (only take one glove off and use a card) so I’m gone before the one behind so really no harm, no foul. BUT looking from the windscreen of the car behind you’re cue jumping.
