1. Have a folder organization system 1:03. 2. Have a backup drive 1:40. 3. Scan papers into PDF's 3:00. 4. Clean up bookmarks and favorites 3:59. 5. Create a master list for passwords 5:30. 6. Clean up email and use labels 6:58. Great video!
For the password management i suggest bitwarden, but if you want a locally stored one maybe keepass.

I wanted to type the same thing XD.. BUT never loose your Master Password .. store it offline and memorize it.. Passwords are one of the most powerfull types of data one can steal..
This came at the best time, also I love how you employ proper digital/cybersecurity tips. Encryption and carrying a physical token is extremely well thought out, amazing

I'd recommend 1Password for password management. But really, Bitwarden, Keepass, or Dashlane are also fine. Even Safari's built-in password manager thing is actually pretty excellent. The thing you're doing with PDFs is way better than sharing passwords between sites, but it adds a lot of complexity and there are a lot of technical details which are … very much not securing them as much as you think they are, so a lot of the extra work you're doing with encryption, "hiding" folders, and such is mostly just wasted. Whereas those purpose-built password managers are protected by teams of extremely sophisticated engineers, who understand the evolving threats to your security. Most of all: 1Password can be unlocked by Touch ID and is actually much *more* convenient than sharing passwords, as opposed to putting a lot of extra effort into something else.

Keepass if you don't want it to sync with an online account.
Great video. You gave a lot of useful tips that I need to start implementing :)
Some very useful security tips, Nicholas.
Man, I've watched quite a few videos of you since yesterday and I love your content. If I was a KZreadr, your channel would be the closest thing haha. Your subtle humour is awesome. Looking forward to watching more of your content. Greetings from Spain.

Your password philosophy is insane, but I love it. I might just try that out.
hi nicholas! i liked your folder organization suggestion. i took my organization a little further by trying to categorize my life across a handful of categories, and then using that as my folder organization for (1) computer data, but also for my (2) e-mail account organization, and even to (3) paper notebooks (though i try to minimize paper). so it's the same categories across everything if that makes sense. i find this helps me to be consistent in how i store things and for knowing where to go to retrieve information later. hope this helps! cheers, and thanks for sharing!

The best videos to see you when you’re eating your breakfast keep going W❤
This was a great deep dive buddy! I’ve started organising by year, but need to reorganise the stuff from before so it’s a work in progress. Great idea with scanning things as pdfs, got too much stuff in physical folders that I’m not sure if I need or not. Yeah I need to organise my bookmarks, they are, well, a mess! I love the rules on gmail that lets you put things automatic into folders, it’s really a great feature! Awesome video again Nicholas. Just need to say too, your b roll is awesome!

My man, can you add chapter markers to your videos? Would be great for list / step by step videos like this.
for bookmarks I have three folders: to read, to buy and to watch, so you can just throw any website in the folder that fits it better and check out later

Man, love your style in the videos, calm voice, nice and calm color grading and it's just awesome to watch. I noticed in your videos you've ditched the orbit key nest for a bellroy tech pouch, any reason why? I' thinking on getting one bc of the organization and the multifunction to serve as a wireless charger and a place to drop edc. Thanks for the content!

Thanks so much! I prefer the Bellroy, for a few reasons but mainly because it’s soft shelled, and more compact. I think the Orbitkey may be better if it permanently stays on the desk
Great video. I haven’t fully embraced the digital lifestyle. All my passwords are written down, I still use paper and pencil to balance the bank accounts. 😊

I highly recommend using a password manager. I don't mean to be rude, but in my opinion this is like "you should drink water" type of advice for the digital life. I finally convinced my non-tech savvy family to use a password manager last year and they never looked back. This isn't just an organizational tip but also a security and digital hygiene tip.
Helpful Video☺️. Question: BTW ,Do you play any games on your phone, tab or pc.., if yes then please mention name and follow any system of lockscreen and homescreen setup?
make sure to have several backups for those fido keys
Self-hosted bitwarden for password management.

So what program do you recommend to use for encryption?
So I have pictures all over and not well labeled, any good program to dump and pump all my photos and have them organized by meta data?
Would love to see a how-to video about how you use Notion (it looked like you had in on the iPad Mini). Im dipping my toes into Notion myself and still looking for how best to utilize it, set it up, etc. The freedom it gives you is great, but when you’re used to more set programs can be daunting as well

I wouldn’t suggest using a PDF with a password to store sensitive data especially all your passwords. Password protected PDF are actually not safe at all, for someone with just a bit of knowledge and a internet connection you can crack them pretty easily. I would suggest you try out keepass as a local and open source method of storing your passwords otherwise you can still use a pdf or spreadsheet but I would recommend encouraging them with VeraCrypt or Plain old PGP.
friend do you use excel to count the finances? like when you make purchases in installments and need to launch in several months..
I'm wondering why you use an external hard drive instead of something like Google Drive? Is it because of the cost versus the available space? Or the fact that your data are somewhere you don't control? Or something else? Comments are very oriented about the way you manage your passwords but I would be very interested in the whys of you external hard drive. I ask because I'm very interested about this method which I think could free me about being locked in Google environment.
I’d like to use something like the encrypted pdf for passwords but I’m not quite sure how to do that? Do I need a specific program to make the pdf file encrypted? I know how to make word type docs and save them as pdf but going the extra encryption step, I’m lost

Pdf passwords are pretty pathetic, typically crackable in a few hours with simplest tools..

Yea, this is one of the worst pieces of advice I have seen on the internet in a while. Using a password manager is faster, easier and better than the pdf method mentioned. There's free, reliable and secure options out there.
You're reading something of value here. If you're keen on this topic, there's a relevant book I suggest. "A Life Unplugged: Reclaiming Reality in a Digital Age" by Theodore Blaze

I see you've gotten a lot of suggestions down here for password managers. Trust is a hard thing to earn when it comes to that. But a dedicated solution for security is better than a passworded document not rigorously tested and audited. Many security professionals recommend keepass/keepass xc. And you can still use your preferred encrypted folder with a keepass file instead of PDF. Adobe shouldn't be trusted with your data.
@thehollowbox
Жыл бұрын
Side note. Your keepass file can also need a hardware key to open. So no one can just copy your file and bruit force the passwords. No matter how good the computer is.
