A Good Day In The Life with POTS ( tips & advice vlog ) | Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome

A Good Day In The Life | POTS ( tips & advice vlog )
Hi! I was diagnosed with pots last year & since then, I've found new ways to do things & become hopeful about life again! So I thought I'd share some of it with you :) This wasn't a good pots day health wise, but I was able to make it a good day despite having pots :)
As always, I hope you're as well as you can be,
Georgina x
Help me fund a suitable wheelchair for university! ☺️:
www.gofundme.com/Georgina-to-...
Or buy me a £3 Ko-fi towards it :) : ko-fi.com/L4L4GFA2
Ps, A lot of this can be applied to other chronic illnesses so if you're living with a chronic pain / fatigue based illness, it could be helpful for you too :) I hope it is :)
Pps, the title sounds a bit odd so please comment title suggestions if you have any! & thank goodness postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome can be shortened to POTS otherwise it would've been even worse :')

    My main tip for a good day is to make the most of any better hrs, mins or moments! I was still bedbound for 22hrs/day this day, but managed more than I had in yrs & was so grateful! ☺️🎉

    Sometimes I complain to my parents about having POTS because none of my teachers understand that I have to have crackers and water with me at all times. I recently started taking med classes at school and I was worried about telling the teacher about my condition and her complaining about it, but she was so nice and told me that she's seen patients like me and she completely understands. She let's me leave class to take meds and have crackers and water ON THE DESK She's so sweet and only asked to have a doctor's note so she could have it on file for future teachers to see. :)

    I forgot to say, I only put my feet on the dashboard when parked! If you need your feet up while moving, it’s safest to have your feet on the back seats! A common question I’ve seen is ‘why do people with POTS often feel better at night?’ & it’s simply because our heart rate naturally lowers in the evening/night 😊

    It saddens me a bit that people don’t understand that although POTS can be as bad as your case and other cases on KZread but also that people have it with less worse symptoms. I feel bad for you obvs and so happy you are getting better but I also have POTs but less extreme and people don’t seem to understand that it’s difficult no matter how bad your POTs is.

    Dance Moms Amazing that’s true, I wish people knew how much variation there is with it! And that it’s difficult for everyone who has it and that everyone is validated :) Have you seen any other Day In The Life With Pots videos on KZread? All of the ones I watched showed life to be really hard and pretty negative so I just wanted to show people that life can still be good :) When I first got ill, everything I found on here made it seem like my life was going to be hard and horrible now so I wanted to give people a little bit of hope :) Although maybe it doesn’t come across that way for people who have less severe cases?

    Georgina's Journey no it does come across as you trying to help however I don’t have a very severe case so (not you) when people in my class go and search up what I have and they see videos that are really negative they either think people like me are “faking” or our life is so much worse than it is. Well done on the videos and keep up the good work 😊

    Ah I see what you mean, I experienced that in the beginning (when I wasn't affected as badly) too. I think the only way around it is to be your own advocate and when you can, tell the person that it affects everyone differently and if you want to, tell them what it's like for you :) One of my conditions is a hypermobility spectrum disorder and I have a very mild case of it, so people often think that I don't really have it or that it's worse than it is which so I completely understand how frustrating it can be :/ Thank you so much :)

    Its so important to mention that if you are going to consider putting your feet on the dashboard you MUST turn the airbag off. If you have an accident with it on it will snap you in half literally, hip fractures, conpund leg fractures, open fractures, risk of spinal injury etc are all huge. It is obviously also a risk turning off an airbag but if you absolutely have to put your feet up it is a must. Where possible it is much safer to travel in the back with your legs up on the seats.

  • @GeorginasJourney

    @GeorginasJourney

    6 жыл бұрын

    Chloe Print-Lambert Sorry, I should have clarified! I meant you can put your legs on the dashboard when you’re parked between going places (which you can see in the video, even though I didn’t specifically say it!) & use that as recovery time! & of course the back seats are an even better option if you don’t have people or a wheelchair taking up that space! I’ll pin a comment explaining that, thanks for telling me as it does sound like I’m giving potentially dangerous advice, even though it isn’t what I meant! x

    So my mom was on tiktok and she saw a video about POTS - I know, random. I haven't felt good in years, I'm always dizzy and tired, my heart skips beats and I faint, lots of different things. We never knew what was wrong and I kinda had to learn to deal with it, but, thanks to tiktok *Never thought I'd say that* I am now diagnosed with something, finally. :) We also realized that it does run in my family, because, some of my family (We don't talk too much) definitely has it. So! It's all making sense!

    TheWeirdos44 that’s great that TikTok helped you find what was wrong! & that a doctor was able to diagnose you with it! Sadly a lot of people who have it struggle to find a doctor who knows of the condition and is willing to refer them for the official testing! Things like KZread and TikTok have actually been great for raising awareness of it though, so the situation is slowly getting better :)

    Hi Shaye. Can I ask what sort of things your physical therapist does for you for the POTS?

  • @shayelea

    @shayelea

    4 жыл бұрын

    Shaz Thorndike it’s quite varied. We started out using the Muldowney Protocol (I have EDS) and then from there (once it became clear I wasn’t THAT deconditioned) moved into testing my tolerance for inversions, endurance for cardio and strength exercises, and balance. We have a three-pronged approach: stability, mobility and strength. Basically it comes down to trying to stress out my system and seeing how long it takes to recover. It’s a long process - I’ve been going off and on for a year and a half. But this was very much tailored to my specific needs. My PT has EDS and POTS herself so she has a solid understanding of its unique challenges. If you don’t have access to PT and need somewhere to start, look into Muldowney or the CHOP POTS protocol (www.dysautonomiainternational.org/pdf/CHOP_Modified_Dallas_POTS_Exercise_Program.pdf). I’ve also heard of the Levine protocol but never looked into it. Muldowney and CHOP are very similar in that they both start out in a supine position (ie, on your back) and stay that way for a long time before you move on to upright exercises. I was more interested in improving my functional capabilities as soon as possible; for instance, I just got done painting my dining room, which would have been impossible before. The right course of action depends a lot on how your POTS manifests and what other treatments you’re using. Good luck!

    I just took a tilt table test to test for pots, but there was no diagnosis as of yet because the room I was tested in was extremely cold to where I was freezing and each position was for 5 minutes. Although they did tell me my blood pressure did go down when I stood up but not enough to where they were concerned it was pots. With me I notice I'm more prone to dizziness, fainting or vomiting if I'm standing up and Its a little warm in the room or outside, but if I'm cold I barely have a reaction at all. I definitely think I also have a heat intolerance and even though I wasn't diagnosed with Pots this time, I still believe I have it. And at this point I don't care if they diagnosis me with or not because I have all the symptoms so I believe I have it. Lastly I have the autoimmune disease Sjogren's Syndrome which is linked highly to Pots, my rheumatologist even said so. But anyway I just thought I'd share my recent experience.

    Jim Jurkowski thanks 😎 We’re in a heatwave atm here, 31 degrees Celsius is SO hot for us, it literally only happens for a couple weeks of the year 😂 What’s it like where you are? In most towns there are paths for pedestrians :) My town (which I didn’t show) & the town we went shopping in are both great for people on foot. There is A LOT of countryside though (like where the physiotherapy place was) & in those areas you would be pretty much stranded without a car 😅 Our roads and especially our cars are also a lot smaller than those in America! Ps, 2 or 3 episodes of Lost left! I’m so close to finishing it!

    Yeah its pretty hot here too but my city has such crazy ranges in regards to weather that I'm somewhat used to it. I actually hate the cold(Fall is nice though) and prefer when its warm outside. We have very wide roads that give a lot of room for people to bike on that leads straight to the heart of downtown. It was my favorite summer activity until my bike got destroyed by a crazy driver so I'm currently without a bike now and a little bit put off by the notion of riding again. Where would you like to live one day? Country or city? Also how is your family liking Lost? I'm excited to hear about your reaction.

    Jim Jurkowski I don’t like the cold either, spring and autumn are my favourite because it’s somewhere in the middle :) That sounds so nice! I’m sorry to hear about your bike and hope you’re ok! I know it’ll be difficult to start with but I say go for it! Like you said, it was a crazy driver, not your fault and I’d imagine it’s not likely to happen again :) Or do you have any bike lanes, that might make you feel more comfortable :) They’re all really enjoying it! Especially now that the weird season (season 4 I think it was) is over and we’ve all become hooked on it again...which is a bit sad as it’s nearly over :’) I also really like how the characters have mostly been whittled down to the original gang, it’s just Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hugo on the beach at the moment, bad Lock (Jacob’s twin) and Claire are coming for them though...

    Jim Jurkowski that’s understandable, my friend felt the same way after she had a minor car crash (it was the friend in this video actually) but I think you just have to bite the bullet and go for it, no one will be thinking about it at all before long :) Yes! I’m so happy about that! I hadn’t thought about that, do you think anyone would watch it? I’m only 10 years late haha :) Although technically I watched it at the time, I was just too young to remember a huge storyline like this back then! Omg have we talked about Alex’s death?? That was probably the saddest moment for me, I love seeing Ben with her in the alternate reality it’s showing atm. What was your saddest moment? (You can say anything that’s not in the last, double episode). Was it Sun & Jin? That was the only thing I remembered from watching it the first time so it obviously had a big impact on me back then, not quite so much when I knew it was coming 😅

    It’s normal for pots to be worse in the morning, but its not as typical for it to go away after 2 hours, so you’d have to talk to a doctor about that & have them investigate your whole case. It will also depend on whether the hr change decreases even without the beta blockers

    I think healthy/able bodied people seriously need to watch videos like these. They seriously don't understand and get confused at how we can't even stand up on some days and function on some days like we're completely healthy but in this you explain it through so I think it would be helpful to understand. If someone who has the privilege of health doesn't see the explanation they would be so confused as to why you had to use the wheelchair while going out and then at night you were using a treadmill. They would probably assume your faking it because healthy people are literally obsessed with telling us chronically ill and disabled people that we're faking all our problems. They have no empathy and just love assuming things.

    Didn't think you would actually see this. Sorry I didn't realize it was an exercise bike. Sad that you can't use it anymore. Honestly I can't exercise either but unfortunately I have no accomodations made for me and I have to constantly exert myself beyond my limits and have limited time to rest since I live in a very ableist household. Even though I torture and push my body beyond it's limits literally all the time people still call me lazy. It's just hell honestly thus the anger towards able bodied people.

    I have POTS too, EDS and tardive dystonias. And I have been bedbound for 12 years now, 95% of the time. I was not able to study and I am not able to work. Most of the time I am lying on my bed, I cant even sit, and I have strong pain all over my body for hours everyday and in the same time I feel that I am close to faint, even lying. I understand, I’m bedbound 95% of the time too. You might find my recent ‘2 months in the life’ video comforting to not feel so alone in your symptoms. I deal with daily vomiting, migraines, fainting, my bladder is so weak I have to use catheters as it’s paralysed and I can’t control things like my heart rate, blood pressure or temperature. Back when this video was filmed, I was probably bedbound 90% of the time instead of 95%, but it was still horrendous. This video was just about seizing the better moments, I only had around 3 ‘better’ hours on the day this was filmed (which is a lot for me) & I really had to push through to achieve everything that I did that day
