    Nuclear weapons are only useful in certain situations. Such a situation would be where Russia was in a war with NATO and strategically inportant territory was being compromised. As we already see you can't bully your way to achieving your nation's political agenda. If the Russians really thought threatening other countries with nuclear devastation was a such great diplomatic tool they'd be using it. They are not using it because it's not a useful tool in normal circumstances, in fact it's counterproductive.

    +vann tedd While what you say is not entirely wrong, I would be worried, when every answer to any question that I have is always just the same one word. Be it "nuclear", or "money" or "oil", or "church" or "race", people have tried several things in the past, but that one trick pony thing just doesn't work so well in the long term. That doesn't mean you should start being ever more anxious, like the Americans are for whatever reason (media), but simply that you could start making friends as a preventive effort, instead of relying on military might alone. I can understand that given your history, this is a foreign concept, ever since steppe riders were approaching from the east. Your might solved that, as well as similar attempts from the west. ...Or did it? Was it more the sacrifice of Ukraine or more the friendship of Ukrainians that saved you from Napoleon and Hitler...? Once they have had enough of US "made-from-plastic" friendship, maybe you want to invite them back in a kind way?

    +Andrew Lyubanenko : Ukraine is an artificial country made out of parts of territories Russia conquered to Poles, Hungarians and Turks. Cossacks asked Russia for accestion to the Empire in order to get help against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth that after centuries of being a ruthless conquerors weakened because of internal corruption. Russia conquered Galitzia, Rhutenia, Besarabia and the Wild Fields and many Russians moved there as part of the Russian Empire. Should Russia hadn't sheltered those territories, they would be today Poles, Hungarians and Turks. The only support for those dreams of Ukrainian 'identity' is utter ignorance. Hadn't Russia brought industrialization to present day Ukraine, it would still be an agricultural economy as is heading now thanks to those Nazi puppets that are throwing the country to the pit for Pindostan to take advantage and enslave them with E(x)ternal Debt and Monsanto.

    IF Putin hurts one hair on the head of any NATO nation or the USA then all of NATO will respond And her is a bombshell....that Putin must also know as Putin is crazy but he is NOT stupid .. When it comes to firepower USA is unto in some cases upto 19 times the size of Russia ... Just take f. exs. Aircraft carries USA has 20 Russia has 1 (that's 19 times of firepower) Fighter aircraft USA has 2207 Russia 769 (that's 2,8 times of firepower) Fix wing aircraft USA has 13892 Russia has 3842 (that's 3,6 times of firepower) Helicopters USA 6196 Russia 1120 (that's 5,5 times of firepower) I can go on and on but I think you get my point !!! And let's not forget that all the USA weapons are tip top and high tec,. Russia for the most part has old soviet leftovers not so much new stuff some new stuff but not something worth worrying about .. The truth is Russia is a analog watch in a digital age ...When it comes to the USA ... ooo YES AND manpower NATO has over 2,6 mill more soldiers under arms then Russia has USA alone has 145,212,012 backup manpower available for military service and they are all professional soldiers .. Russia only has 69,117,271 backup manpower available for military service For they most-part farm boys doing their national service USA has today active serving military personnel 1,400,000 The USA are battle hardened professional soldiers .. Russia has only active military personnel 766,055 Most of them are farm boys doing their national service AND IF WE PUT NATO INTO this mix we are talking fire power advantage up-too in some cases 26 times of Russia www.globalfirepower.com/countries-comparison-detail.asp?form=form&country1=united-states-of-america&country2=russia&Submit=COMPARE.

    This isn't well done. "no one in Europe lives more than 3-400 miles to the Sea" Technically true, but only because the European peninsula is only ~600 to 800 miles wide. Russia's map looks different from its population, therefore it is very poor" Both statements are true, but they aren't connected. US, Canada, Australia, France, Spain, China all have different Population distributions than the territory they control, but that isn't why they are rich/poor. you made Svalbard part of Russia at 1:38. Then the video actually makes it's point at 2:00. This is a poorly made video that doesn't really tell you anything.

    Bruce M, Russia won WWII losing 5 soldiers against 1 German soldier. They wouldn't have won the war if not for the help from the US and other allies. Every third loaf of bread and every second can or meat and every second truck in the Russian Army was supplied by the US, practically for free. And what happened after the war? Germany rebuilt its economy within 10 years, while Russia kept being a shithole it has always been. In 1980s and 1990s half of the Russian population wanted to move to Germany. Russians have little money, they wasted all of it on stupid projects like Olympic Games and World Cup, plus Putin and his cronies stole the rest. Their military equipment is shit. I know that, I served as a sergeant in Soviet Army. All they show during parades is just a facade, behind which everything breaks and gets stolen. Plus, their army is made of incompetent and poorly trained soldiers and officers.

    Less than a minute into the video I could already tell this guy has no clue what he is talking about. "Europe starts at the border of Russia." "Russia is not European." "Russia is landlocked." "All of the European peninsula besides Russia is wealthy, and Russia is poor and backwards." "Travel within and outside of Russia is hard." "Eastern Russia has almost nobody living there." (Eastern Russia contains half of Russia's population, making them not densely populated but certainly a ton of people live there.) "Belarus is a neutral country." "Ukraine is allied to the West." Honestly, nearly everything this guy said in the video was wrong. I am not saying that Russia is not definitely at a disadvantage in many areas, or that they are as developed as much of Europe, but 90% of every single proclamation he made in this video is just plain wrong.

    shadedoom Well 80% what did this gentlman said actually is correct. East from Ural mountains in whole Siberia lives only 34 million people. They have almost no modern infrastructure there for example China is more avaible to these people by means of transport than western parts of Russia. After Russia invaded Ukraine they have a serious enemy that wants to integrate in western alliences. Russia is almost landlocked country it does not have any serious ports or airports in Siberia. To get to Atlantic ocean it needs to go trough inner seas controled by other countries.Russia is poor country in comparison with Europe also is true. For example Swizterland with population around 8 million exports more in terms of wealth than the whole Russia wich has 143 million population.

    eddie money Switzerland does export more than Russia.Well my friend look at the statistics Germany exports 5 times more in terms of wealth than Russia. Netherlands a state which has a population less than 17 million exports more than Russia. Perhaps you don't know nothing about statistics. There is no such thing no economist would say such nonsense that Russia could surpass any G7 country in future. Did you even know that Russian economy in terms of GDP is getting smaller for the last 3 years? Half of Russian budget is made of oil and gas sales but because of low prices they have to make budget cuts and there are at least 20 million poor people living in Russia and that is Russian government own statistics. Don't argue you sound like troll.

Right now Russia is in 12th position acorsing IMF, World Bank and UN, but soon Australia could take their place because of weak economic performence and lack of reforms. Oil and gas sales makes around 50% of federal budget revenues.Learn to read kid because I said nothing about what makes up Russia's GDP. Russia has collapsed already 2 times in 20th century the only way to save Russia is decentralisation of state and give back powers to Federal states.

    That is a biased insight. 1. Russia is European starting by the fact that the European plains stretch from France to Russia up to the Urals. 2. Russians are a Slavic nation, that is, part of the stem that encompasses Poles, Czechs, Serbs and others that start spreading in all directions from the Carpathian basin in VI AD. It is an amazing feat that Eastern Slavs could resist and counterattack nomad tribes that came from beyond the Urals and conquer their territory and even pass to America (Alaska). 3. Russia is not landlocked in the West, it has own access to the Baltic and the the Mediterranean seas because Russians defeated the Swedes that invaded territories that belonged to the Kievan Rus and also defeated the Turks that had invaded the Balkans and territories that belonged to the Byzantine Empire (from which is the only legal successor) and got FREE sailing through the straits. Any attempt to block them would be an act of war. If Mr. Friedman is trying to encourage Westerners to invade Russia, then I would think he is paid by the Rothschilds that want another war to make more profits. If Mr. Friedman is just trying to have the spotlights on him, he can take a bench and await sitting.

Dare to explain how Ukraine is connected to Kievan Rus if Ukraine appeared in 20th century, just 7 centuries after the first state collapsed? Looks like George Friedman's view on Russia is stuck in 19th century (or even in 17th century). Russia now is a more developed country than what's been showed in pictures. Most of the biggest Russian cities not differ much from European. But in video we see only ruins and wastelands, and several times repeated word "poor". Also, Russia have access to 3 oceans (Atlantic, Arctic and Pacific). Russia have intercontinental missiles, that can reach any place in Europe and America, so there no need of free access to sea anymore! This is very narrow, outdated and biased analisis which only purpose is propaganda.

  • @coreymicallef365

    @coreymicallef365

    7 жыл бұрын

    Russia's access to the Atlantic is limited due to the climate freezing the Russian ports there and the potential for NATO to block access (NATO is an anti-Russian alliance so this is not an inconceivable notion), most of the Arctic is frozen year round and the parts that aren't are still extremely difficult to traverse (look up the British efforts to supply the USSR with food and weapons via that route in the Second World War) with the possibility of this sea becoming feasibly navigable for the first time in history in the next few decades only due to climate change. Access to the Pacific is much less restricted, but Russia can't feasibly transport goods produced in its west all the way to the Pacific, to make fullest use of this coast Russia would need to start getting its people to migrate there and develop the territory and that will be next to impossible to do with their current demographic difficulties. It could be argued that the USSR should have done that developing but even at the best point economically they weren't very interested in foreign trade and that would have been the main reason for that development, a proper trans-Siberian highway wasn't completely built until 2004. As for Russian cities, I'll take your word for them being similar to European (using Friedman's definition) cities but the areas connecting the cities are just as important as the cities themselves because if the logistical links between the cities are poor then it is difficult or expensive to make something in one city and sell it in another, add to that the much larger distance between the major cities in Russia compared to Europe and economies of scale don't really take off easily in those conditions.

    Russia had no Ukrainian, Baltic or Bellorussian territory, when Napoleon attacked, Hitler attacked USSR from all the front with 3 armey groups "North","Center" and "South", he didn't advanced only in Ukraine, nowadays this territory isn't important as much as it was, due to existance of nuclear tactical and intercontinental missles. Russia has acces to 3 oceans and 3 internal seas. Siberia is populated denser, then most of Australia, Canada and Brasil. Russia is first or among the first in natural resources, such as natural gas, uranium, has one of the biggest oil reserves and many other resources, including also the fact, that it controls half of the Arctic. Russia has strong economical ties with Asia. There could be many other arguments presented, but only main argument needed is the fact, that Russia survived and florished for 1154 years and even longer before, while there is almost no generation in it's history, that didn't witnessed an interventional war or conflict of some kind and most of this times it was "isolated" by the rest of the world.

    Mateusz Wites By the way many post soviet countries took many of Russia's historical territories after the collapse. Crimea was a good example, it was captured by Russia in 1783, the same year, in which British Empire confirmed independence of USA.

    +Андрей «TheProudCat» Герман Crimea was transferred to Ukraine by Soviets in 1954, it was not taken by anyone. Putin annexed crimea because its very important military base for Russia navy. BTW. I dont see much of a difference in size (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/Europe_1812_map_en.png). Look at this map of russia in 1812 and today maps. Its this same buffer zone.

    Cyphrum ᕙ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ The US isn’t stronger than Russia, in fact, I’d say it’s exact opposite. Russia is superior in many things, like nuclear power, tank power, territory, strategic position, etc. While the US has a higher population (which doesn’t even matter in a nuclear war), the Americans aren’t even a single, unified nation, but a bunch of immigrants from all around the world, many of whom don’t really care for America, but are there just because of the better economical development, and that’s where the Russians, who are an actual unified patriotic nation are at an advantage. Also, the only reason the US can even afford its military budget is by printing ginormous amounts of money, which can lose its value any time due to the huge amount of printing. Russia’s ally China could completely economically devastate the US, as it owes huge amounts of money to China, which it will take decades to repay. Perhaps the US isn’t as powerful as you think ?

  • @markojovanovic1750

    @markojovanovic1750

    Cyphrum ᕙ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ Yeah, the US spends more on the military, but as I mentioned earlier, the only reason you guys can even afford you’re military budget is through ginormous amounts of printing and borrowing money from countries like China. If China would demand from you, to return all of you’re debts to them immediately, you would be completely economically devastated ! Population does matter, and the US has more of it, but half of the American population are blacks, Asians, Mexicans, immigrants etc., who as I mentioned earlier don’t give a shit about America ! They won’t fight for you ! Americans aren’t even a real nation, just a bunch of immigrants from all around the world. Also, did you forget that you are on the other continent ? We can just bomb all of you’re soldier carrying ships, before they even reach the shore. You didn’t even manage to defeat Vietnam, while it was in a total disarray, how in the hell do you hope to defeat Russia ? And yes, China is our ally, so is North Korea, because it is in their best interest to preserve communism, from which they benefit greatly. NATO is just an American tool, for turning European countries against Russia, but they won’t go to war with Russia for you. Just look at the people’s response, after the recommendation of an “EU army to face Russia”

    The primary reason Russia is somewhat weak is simply because they don't have the money and funding to have a really strong military. A decent sum of Russia's military equipment is still soviet era equipment as well so that is also a reason Russia isn't too strong in modern times.

    Comrade They do have advanced military equipment, but not nearly as much as America or China. And some of it isn't as good. A prime example of this is their admiral Kuznetsov carrier. They have 1 and it doesn't even use a nuclear reactor for power. America has 10 and the ALL use nuclear reactors. Come on man, even Wikipedia could teach you that.

    Also because Russia has like 50,000 anti-ship, air-to-surface, and surface-to-surface rockets to open up the Bosphorus in the case that any navy tries to blockade it. There are a lot of very important details he is leaving out. He says that the Ukraine is fundamentally important but leaves out many reasons and just puts it on access to the Mediterranean. Annexing Crimea was just the first step, they are going to make even more moves on Ukraine and the middle east. Also let's not forget Turkey tried invading Russia before and over 40 thousand of them died in one night due to the winter, so it isn't as vulnerable as he makes it out to be. The winter soldiers for Russia, as the old proverb says.

    OUCH ! That's gotta hurt ! We don't share the Russians delusions thats why we laugh at AT RUSSIANS !”. TAKE A LOOK AT THE FACTS Russia’s influence IS A JOKE !!! Russia at its best GDP ever was back in the day of 2013 Russia had even then a peanut economy about the same size as Italy’s at the time so really it's too small to throw its weight around (but Russia has always been trying to boxing out of its own class) See the stats.. under, Russia ranks the size based on 2013 nominal GDP: and now after the sanctions it is even smaller and get smaller then Italy is today .. GDP pr nation 2013 (when Russia was at its best ) United States -- GDP 17.8 trillion (2013) China -- GDP 9.2 trillion (2013) Japan --GDP 4.9 trillion (2013) Germany -- GDP 3.6 trillion (2013) France --GDP 2.7 trillion (2013) United Kingdom -GDP 2.5 trillion (2013) Brazil -- GDP 2.2 trillion (2013) (even a South American BS Bananacake Republic nation like Brazil is bigger than RuZZia ) India -- GDP 2.2 trillion (2013) (and even a INDIA a 3rd world nation is bigger than RuZZia) Italy -- GDP 2.1 trillion (2013) Russia --GDP 2.1 trillion (2013) -----------------NOTICE !!!! Russia today -GDP 1,1 trillion (2017) ---------- Also of note: the European Union’s 2013 nominal GDP was GDP 17.4 trillion We can see if we look at Russia’s economy to Italy’s how small it is -- and Italy’s economy compared to the rest of the world and western nations is small take United Kingdom -- GDP 2.5 ;, France -- GDP 2.7 .and Germany -GDP 3.6,.. AND WAHT IS RUSSIA TODAY IN 2017 ???? IT IS A WHOPPING hehehe GDP of 1,1 trillion ( lower then even SPAIN with GDP of 1,2 and that is the sick boy of the EU like Greece !!!!!) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) Everyone wants sanctions on Russia that is why they are there !!! And when the stink hole that is RuZZia has fallen it will be broken up bit for bit and sold off for cents on the dollar.. Because that is what you pay monkeys you pay them with peanuts

    It's so fun to hear so stupid expert. In time when Napoleon comes to Russia there was no Ukraine no Belorus, it was a Russian Imperia. There was no even a nationality Ukrainian. There was no any buffer. Then, Russia exports a grain, oil to Turkey. Why turkey would close Bosphorus. Also Russia And Turkey signed an Act about Bosphorus. Closing it for Russian ships will start the war immediately. Sorry for my English.
