I like how they also delve into the psychological effects of the good place. I think for paradise to be a paradise over eternity there have to be challenges, and suffering of some sort. This actually looks like a really good show. It delves into a lot of philosophical questions I've pondered such as: is eternal torment really just for any crime(s) committed in a finite existence? What truly is pleasure when by our nature we get accustomed, used to, and bored of things then take them for granted? If fair judgement is done by a jury off our peers, how can one be judged by beings so far removed from us and how could we ever understand their will?

For me heaven is very strict but if you commited "petty" sins like pleasuring yourself or getting a tatoo etc. which is not heaven worthy you'll get reincarnated to restart your life again and hopefully stays in the path of God. Unless you are a murderer who only do horrible things for pleasure your souls get sent to hell, no reincarnation. I remember seeing the name of this show thrown out somewhere a couple of times. I had NO IDEA what it was about. The ads failed to market the show or even explain what it was about! Had they done their job and marketed this properly, I probably would have watched it live when it came out! I'm definitely going to go watch this show because it sounds interesting and hilarious and includes some of my favorite actors! It's a really interesting concept. When I first heard an ad mentioning the show or a commercial showing pieces of the show, I would have NEVER had guessed it had to do with heaven and hell and the afterlife! Such a fun and interesting idea for this show specifically with how they handle heaven and hell compared to more traditional ways of depicting heaven and hell that you see in movies and TV shows. I do have one question though before I watch the ENTIRE SERIES: what does the final door they walk through lead to at the end? Do they go back to Earth? Do they go to the bad place? Is this answered in the show or was it answered during this recap that I somehow missed?

It is the brain that craves stimulation and identity the soul (assuming one exist) I would imagine transcends this. Maybe it craves wisdom instead so it would go to many other realms of consciousness for more learning, but "suffering" seems like something the human condition craves

It’s because when getting to the actual good place you have everything you could ever want and do what you want but once you do that for 10s, 100s, or even 1000s of years you would eventually get bored and run out of things to do. The thing about the actual good place is that it is extremely difficult to get into (giving it a type of unreachable status) but once you actually get there you can never leave.

I thought it would've been more like the reincarnation cycle.... After life you move on but (with a twist) go to the bad place to build character then to the good place. Once tired of the good place you be reborn to earth and so on. But, I liked this way also.

Technically they could bring that about, also there isn't anything said about the final door. At most the best I can gather is that You have the original soul, it lives, then dies, ends up in purgatory, goes to either paradise or damnation, the ones in the paradise can live anything they desire or want essentially eliminating the idea of reincarnation. At least for the individual. The final doorway likely is the annihilation of the persons soul or individuality. Perhaps cleansing the soul and purging it of the individuality of that person. It is then either absorbed back into what ever the realm or universe is, and or perhaps is reincarnated as a new individual free of the original person. So in theory it could be reincarnation but the person that the soul originally was is now long gone no memory, no original individuality, Just a clean blank slate ready to create a new person.

I believe the last door was to take the soul (after all the tourture). That's why its no return. But those Demons had fun torturing her before she ended it. Also the guy never went to earth. He is immortal. This was another bad place and was training/promotion for him to become an all knowing being like the Judge.
