Not because a dusty old book says so, combined with the firm hand of their judgemental prehistoric husband. But outside of the legal question, OF COURSE YOU CAM JUDGE THEIR DECISION. Pressuring women to veil themselves (or women choosing to without coercion) for the express reason of diminishing them and keeping them from exciting the men around them is absurd and disgusting. I can make that judgement and still say it should be legal, so long as it’s not forced on anybody, as it is in some countries.

Alex This discussion is a case of ignorant eloquence of Brandis trumping the hesitant style of Pauline Hanson's accurate claims: burquas and niquabs actually contravene the Islamic (quranic) requirement that women walking in public should be identifiable. Also, with 25 countries having experienced Islamic violence - no other religion is doing it - isn't it right to identify the common factor, which is militant Islam, one of the indicators of which is extreme dress codes? Gough's Bastard attacks the messenger, not the message, and from his spelling, he has an entry-level iq, and has not the slightest clue about the issues, on which he has no opinion.

#Alex, I'm just glad Gough cleared up a few of your points you raised! On Hanson though??? Come on mate the woman has very few good bones in her body! It's easy to say she is a good woman if you subscribe to her hysteria! You see people like Hanson bark up the simplist tree, motivated by pure bigotry! Most Australians are quite intellectually and emotionally aware of their surrounds and therefore the substantial opposition to her superficial views. She provides a platform for a protest vote and that's where it ends for many who supported her last time! She hasn't said or done what any other uneducated and one dimensional thinker says in a pub setting! Aborigines and Asians were her target in her early days but has become much more aware of real circumstances as a consequence and now hear close to nothing regarding these people. She learnt realities but damn it took along time for the penny to drop! Muslims is just another one of little political toys that has given her some traction again! It is all face value stuff, you know hysteria and emotions driven by a few headlines, which is no different to a drunken pub yarn! She can't speak, she can't think and just because she gets up and speaks out about something doesn't suggest she has balls, it simply suggests the women is that intellectually and emotionally unaware that she is mentality lacking somewhere!

Goughs Bastard Once again, no - you make a habit of getting it wrong. Perhaps you should have stayed at school longer, maybe until you were twelve or so. Regardless of her personality, in this case she is spot on, the burqua and niquab are contrary to Islamic/Quranic and Muhammadan teachings, which require the woman to be identifiable when in public. And when a legally trained MP gets it so wrong, then your country has problems, as do you with your childish and ignorant responses. Quite simply, this shouldn't be an issue of personalities, but of facts. The Burqua has been banned in several countries, for good reasons, Islam has been completely banned in some, which your dumb politicians are neither researching, nor even capable of thinking about why such masks are clearly anti-social. Maybe you're an Australian politician yourself - you're dumb enough.

There is two opposing viewpoints to this debate of letting Muslims continue to grow in population in Australia, but only one of these views is the logically correct and reasonable viewpoint if the goal in making this decision is to ensure the best outcome for the future of all CURRENT AUSTRALIANS. NOT "FUTURE AUSTRALIANS". The argument many people make that we 'have to consider the well being of all of the innocent muslims that may be affected by a muslim ban that would prevent them coming to Australia", has a very valid point at its heart: we should be very careful to consider the well being of the 'innocent muslim' population, who would be affected if all Muslims were banned. It is only right to consider this group's well being, however in the situation we have, where a rising Muslim population can be provably linked to a rise in threats to the people of Australia from terrorist acts (as well as the many other acts of harm to the society, such as rape gangs), we are faced with a situation where to only consider the well being of the 'innocent muslim population' - who aren't even Australians yet, we have to trade of some consideration for the well being of the citizens who already reside in Australia. While as humans, both 'innocent Muslims' and citizens of Australia should be afforded the same thoughts about safeguarding well being, all other things being equal, if it comes down to having to choose the well being of the Australian citizen, or the well being of an 'innocent Muslim' wanting to immigrate, the Australian government HAS to place the well being of the Australian people before the 'innocent muslim', and look at restricting the growth of the Muslim population in Australia. For an absolutely plain as day real life example of future consequences should action not be taken, all Australia need do is look to the UK and France who have approx double the percentage of Muslim population as Australia does, and see that the continued immigration of this culture into their societies now has resulted in military and heavily armed police patrolling their capitol thanks to the increase in attacks occurring. People who cannot get passed their view that to restrict Muslim immigration is 'hateful and barbaric, and un Australian' are not acting from a place of logic, and their views are detrimental to the well being of citizens already in this country. I think they have succumb to such a level of white guilt, that they place the well being of people from external cultures above the well being of the people closest to them in their own country.
