A Frosty and Wintry Day of Railfanning in Fostoria, Ohio. 12/17/2017.

Hello everyone, and welcome to today's video! Today's video features more action from good old Fostoria, and better yet, action in wintry weather! While I've done railfanning in winter before in Fostoria (my "Winter Day of Railfanning in Fostoria" video from last year), this was the first time in nearly a year where I've done winter railfanning with snow and frost there.
Despite the cold, the action was pretty good on both the Norfolk Southern Fostoria District and the CSX Willard Subdivision. Interesting enough, however, the action on the CSX Pemberville Subdivision was rather scarce today as I only saw four trains in total on the Pemberville Sub. In addition, the action on the CSX Columbus Subdivision was a bit slower than I anticipated. While this day of railfanning was on a Sunday, I had not anticipated traffic to be this slow. The lack of traffic on the Pemberville Sub and Columbus Sub directly affected traffic on the Willard Subdivision since about half of the trains one would see on the Willard Subdivision each day transfer onto either subdivision.
Even so, the traffic today was still decent, and I got a few good catches, including an ex-Rio Grande boxcar and many other fallen flag cars on the manifest trains, including a number of ex-Chicago and Northwestern (CNW) rolling stock. In addition, it was nice to see CSX run more manifest trains than they normally do and I'd rather have a day like this in the snow and do some railfanning in winter conditions rather than seeing more trains in boring old 40 degree weather and no snow. All in all, while today wasn't the most optimal day of railfanning in Fostoria, I still enjoyed myself and made the most of it.
Also, as a side note, some of the other railfans at the park did somewhat talk over my filming of a couple of the trains, so I apologize for the inconvenience. Here's to hoping that the next time I go railfanning in Fostoria (which in all likelihood will be sooner rather than later) it will be a better day in terms of action, and hopefully they'll be snow as well!
Hope you enjoy the video!

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Apparently not much coming from the south on the C&O...

Thank you very much! Not much comes from the south on the C&O, traffic on that route I've heard has decreased by about half since 2015 and CSX is trying to find new solutions to keep the route alive. There are still trains over the route, but the traffic is a far cry from what it was years ago.

Black cats are not bad luck! The cat ran across the tracks and no derailment! (First train at beginning)

Thanks, there's a grain silo on the west side of the junction on the NS line which helps to create the echo.

The temperature was actually not as bad as you would think. Cold yes, but not terribly cold. I've railfanned in colder weather before.
