A Foxhole Retrospective - Cogs in the Machine
Ойындар
At year's closing we tell a beautiful tale about the insignificance of an individual's actions in a large scale conflict. Looking back all the way to the humble beginnings of Foxhole and seeing the scale and scope increase over the years.

Such a great video and summary of the history of Foxhole! As a data nerd this is awesome to learn as well. Thanks for sharing this and figuring this data out! Thank you for this!

This is actually an offshoot of another data heavy video I was working on. Which may or may not see the light of day eventually. Always glad to hear people enjoy the data as well on stuff like this!

exactly i keep trying to tell new players that, i could care less in the end who wins the war because if we win them all we should just switch factions.
Its nice to see how far the game has come 3:29 kinda hard to hear this part with the loud metal banging. unless that was intended

To add to this, it is the update that introduced the CV to the game. But yes, the joke was that the CV sound used to drown out anything else. Not to mention that the sound used to drive everybody crazy, including the operator

Great video. It's nice to see such a look back at how it all started and where we are today. Thank you very much for doing this. o7
The best game concept ever and a really great game. I played Foxhole for several months in spring of the 2023 (update Inferno). There were some epic, legendary battles and serious fighting. Besides that, I played various logistic roles or just go to the partisans behind enemy lines. Later it was a bit repetitive, since after every end of war, the map was shuffled, and everything starts from the beginning. But after long time of rare casual playing of different games, I was staying with Foxhole sometimes until 2-3 AM.
i have a very bad memory of most things , and have been playing the game for a long time. thank you for bringing alot of this back into my memory for me. much appreciated.
6:53 OG Shadow Dancing? Holy shit, this scares me. Today I think Shadow Dancing is witchcraft, but this sound even worse.

It was.... something else. A great thing to behold when done by a true shadowdancer (unless they were coming for you)

It was pretty much a trip down memory lane going through all these updates. And a lot of Öh yeah, that's right. Things used to be like that"
Funny. When I first started I took over a components nod. Mining and harvesting broken as fast as I could so everyone could just pick up loaded containers of components. All I ever got was hassles
I love seeing where this game came from, and what it is now. What a gem, ty
The reason Foxhole is great is just because of that fact. You are a cog in a machine. You are one amongst hundreds of people and you might feel insignificant. However it's every cog is valuable. every part of the war contribute to the war. Just like that one guy who was mindlessly scraping for materials that got Freerk into the game in the first place. Your just a cog in the machine but that cog is what makes the machine work. No matter how little or how much you do. You still will be an valuable asset to the game. Because the game would not exist with every single one of us.
Great video and really great art man, I love the spindly distorted style. Really evocative of the atmosphere of Foxhole in a way that's hard to describe.

Farranac coast is still my favourite part of the map, people legit losing their minds in carnage. I remember one time i couldn't find a gunner for half an hour because everyone i asked would just reply "Nah, I prefer to die." and just proceed to run into the fight.

Always good hearing people getting into the teaching game! One of the best welcoming things you can do to new players; help them, teach them, answer them.

Great stuff, always love your videos. I had trouble understanding the significance of the casualty numbers tho. Is that a better indicator of player activity than Steam's player counts?

It is a better indicator of how insignificant your actions are. It's wasn't necessarily meant as an indicator of player numbers

They should take the second server and make it a reduced map size weekly war for quick gameplay and people to practice making things. No sense in haveing 2 servers with essentially the same gameplay. Maybe even bumb up speed to complete activities.
@FreerkHoltes

Hhhm, I like the idea but I fear if they would go for that most people will go play on the "faster" server. The different servers are only there to help spread the load and try to minimize queues. When average player numbers drop (which always happens one or two wars after an upodate) , Charlie will be turned off again
@Raven5431

@FreerkHoltes idk about most people but if the idea is to simply "spread the load" then that's exactly what it would do anyway. Sending people to a secondary war only because they can't get into the main is more like a punishment.
3:45 LOL wth is happening? XD *Let's turn down the voice volume to like 10% and start this loud banging noise that's at least 10 times as loud as the speaking volume TROLOLOLOLOL*
@FreerkHoltes

It's an "inside" joke. It is the old sound of the CV which was loud AF and drove everybody mad. The CV got introduced with that update.
One thing that I really don't like about this game is that you can't achieve anything significant as a solo player in it. Only if you are super hypersocial and have over 9000 friends you can do something impactful like a tank battalion or artillery barrage that actually moves the frontline. By being just a lowly medic/soldier/truck driver you can't do anything impactful at all. And this will probably be the reason why I will stop playing this game soon.
@rudestbeast4907
6 ай бұрын
yea its not a game to seek fame in but if all medic soldier and driver suddenly quit the war would end in 8h.
as you said we are but cogs in a machine once a new player can accept that they can maybe find some enjoyment instead of constant crying about "not making enough impact" if their core reason for playing foxhole is to make a name for themselves, they wasted their money because no one holds a medal of honor ceremony for them.
