We can all talk about Barry, Payton, Dickerson, Brown, & OJ but Emmit Smith did what he did in the NFL. One thing that we real football fans should know is that not anybody could have accomplished what Emmit Smith accomplished in Dallas. He had his set of special gifts and intangibles that made him the all time leading rusher. Period! Just because he had a great O Line and a great team doesn’t mean any running back could accomplish his same statistics! I’m a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and I’m not saying that Emmit was the flashiest RB but pound for pound, in the clutch, I got my money on #22!

@@rhyno8644 hey.. it’s ridiculous to think that just any running back would have had the exact same results as Emmitt just because the Cowboys offense line was superior. I’m not saying he’s the greatest running back of all time or even my favorite running back honestly. However.. What I am saying is that he had great vision, balance, durability, and intelligence and that made him one of the best of all time. What people are really saying is that they don’t believe that Emmitt could have been a great running back outside of the Dallas Cowboys. I don’t believe that and we will never know the answer to that question.

As an Eagles fan, this definitely changed my view of Emmitt. He's talented for sure, but I admire that work ethic and determination to be great. And he wasn't cocky about it at all. He wrote his goals, and he kept it private. I also admired that he named everyone that got him to where he is during his retirement speech. What a legend. And it's absolutely crazy how durable he was. To take a pounding like that for 15 seasons is insane. For reference, there have been many great RBs, but only 31 have rushed for 10,000+ yards, and Emmitt nearly doubled that.

Average length of a NFL career is 3.3 years - For Running backs the average is 2.6 years (Lowest of all positions) - In his 13 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Emmit Smith only missed 5 games - 201 out of a possible 206 which should have been 203 out of 208 because Jerry Jones dragged his feet signing Smith to a new contact after his Rookie contract had expired after winning the Super Bowl the previous year. Remarkable consistency and focus throughout his entire 15 year career.

I remember watching Emmitt Smith at the Univ of Florida. Every time Emmitt scored a touchdown he would toss the football to the official. I never saw him celebrate with some gangster pose or a goofy dance. Like many of the greats, he had class. Critics would say he was too slow. How many defenders wearing pads could run him down? The guy was a genius seeing angles and setting up blocks. He had great vision on the field. That vision carried over off the field and after football. Thank YOU Emmitt for all the great years of football and for being a role model to everyone.

He might not have celebrated after a TD in college, but he sure did as a Cowboy. The NFL put a rule in specifically for Smith because he couldn't keep his helmet on after a TD. He also would never give the football back to an official in the NFL after scoring a TD.

Man I have to admit watching emmitt Smith and Moose hug 💯❤️ listen the amount of love and respect I have and I'm not even a cowboy fan but that team was something special i mean they beat a great Buffalo bills team twice a great San Francisco 49ers team as well as a and people don't remember this but also a great Green Bay Packers team that's why I feel like that cowboys team that dynasty was definitely one of the best and most dominant teams in NFL History and no matter what you don't have to like them or. Maybe you love them but everyone has to respect them as champions 💯

@@JermTOOL, Lol no. Barry quit, plain and simple. Smith played as long as he wanted until he physically, mentally, and emotionally couldn't do it anymore. Barry didn't have the drive in him to reach this goal. Which is why he never did it. If anything, had Barry stayed, it would've pushed Emmitt even further. So thank Barry that Smith's yardage is what it is and not over 20k.

The incredible thing about Emmitt Smith is that he was even better than all of the credit is given to him because there are things he did great that flew under the radar from his power running skills. His nose for the first down marker kept drive after drive after drive alive, which culminated in points and wins. His blocking was superb, and was the biggest weapon Dallas had when they beat Buffalo in that first Super Bowl, as he continual picked up those great blitzing linebackers of Buffalo, which gave Aikman that added extra time to hit Novacek with short passes to keep drives alive. The Cowboys won because of Emmitt. Without him the team’s offense was non existent.

The things I loved seeing when watching Emmitt Smith run the ball was his Toughness, Patience, Vision, Balance, & he was also Versatile. That's what I think of when you mention Emmitt Smith, cause he wasn't the fastest or strongest or the most elusive RB, he was just a natural pure RB that was good at what he did, but Emmitt Smith just can't take all that credit & glory alone, cause he did run behind the best OL in the NFL, plus Big Moose, the full back, clearing Smith out many paths too!
