A few truths about becoming a physio nobody ever tells you
Hi everyone my name is Masud.
Welcome back to the channel.
In today’s video I’ll be discussing a few very little know truths that nobody tells you about becoming a physio.
1. Your education is not when you start your degree/training for physio. It begins actually the day you qualify because then you are on your own and have to take full responsibility for your decisions.
You can get away with some things when you’re a student but when you qualify it’s on you to make sure you’re safe and sound.
Physio is an ever learning profession and you never stop learning as a physiotherapist as the profession is always changing and new evidence is always coming out you develop your skills to adapt.
2. My next point is a little contradictive but will make sense when you’ve been through the pathway.
The physio training/degree is the hardest thing you will have to do in your physio career.
The reason I say that is because the course is packed with so much learning and assessments alongside real placements in such a short amount of time that you really don’t have time to think sometimes and the aim is really just to pass.
But at the end of it, you get a chance to just focus on practicing physio without so much pressure to pass assignments. This allows you to really take your time and develop your skills in practice.
3. In regards to physio practice. Very simply I can remember one of my lecturers saying to me at uni, ‘Masud, physio is very simple but we love to make it complex’... ‘ just remember; if something is tight - stretch it, if something is weak - strengthen it and if something is painful use some ice/heat’ .. alright you got me the last one I made up but it makes sense. If it doesn’t, it will when you’re out on practice.
BONUS TRUTH
* Grades do not matter. Just focus on passing the degree and you’ll be OK.
Thanks for watching.

Hi Masud, enjoying the videos & finding them very informative. Were there mature students (in their 30s) on your course? Were they able to be successful with the demands of the course? Niche question but it’s a journey I’m at the start of & looking to balance family, uni etc & would appreciate your insights 👍🏻

Hi mate. Got a question which am hoping you can answer as your a qualified physio. Once qualified I am aware you need to register with the HCPC but do also need to registration with the CSP or is that optional? Thanks

Hey dude, I think it’s not mandatory but don’t quote me. The CSP do provide insurance as part of registering with them so if anything work related were to happen you’re protected.. atleast that’s what I gathered. HCPC is most important to be able to call yourself a ‘physiotherapist’ and practice. CSP is also good and you should have it but I know some who don’t. Hope that helps
Does it only applies in UK, or else where as well? ps: I am living in Australia.

It must be really specific to his education system. Here in canada, in order to become a physiotherapist, you have to join the order of physiotherapiste of your province. In order to do that, you must get a bachelor and a master degree in physiotherapy. The catch is doing a bachelor in physiotherapy doesn't mean you will get admitted to do a master degrees, it all depends on your grades.
Thank you so much for the information. I had a few doubts 1) Can one get an NHS job as a physiotherapist right after their bachelor of physiotherapy(from India )without any experience ? 2) Can one do their masters while working with NHS?

Hey Amaljit, 1) If you mean you’ve done your studies/qualified abroad and want to practice in the NHS you would need to register with the HCPC first. Usually they do require you to have a few years exp but the best option is to contact them and read on their website the procedure. If you’re a U.K. qualified physiotherapist that’s a different story. 2) Yes but it depends on which masters and the structure for study for example you may not be needed on campus for lectures or seminars and can do online learning or it might be the opposite. Doing a masters whilst working is a big commitment. So yes it is possible but a lot of work and you’re not gna have a life .. probably 😅
